Joe thanked Henry then paid him and left a tip.
“Have a nice day sir.”
Joe walked the three blocks until he came to Layla’s; a large Jamaican woman greeted Joe.
“Hello there; Henry the barber sent me; he reckons I can get a good meal here.
“What would you like we do Southern fried chicken, ribs, pulled pork, and steak? Or you can go for the steam pot; which has shrimp, lobster, clams, mussels, crab, corn with greens and potatoes.”
“That sounds good to me. I will try the steam pot please.’
“Please take a seat and I will be right over.”
“Cream and sugar?
“Just sugar please.”
Layla brought him a wooden board and a hammer to crack the shell of the crab and lobster with. There was a knife to open the clams and a fork to eat them with.
The meal came in a huge basket and was filled with the shell fish and corn.
Layla brought the greens and potatoes in two separate bowls as Joe cot stuck into the lobster first he dipped it into the melted butter that Layla had brought along with a pot of coffee.
“This is delicious he said as he smashed the lobster claws the separated the body of the lobster with his fingers.
Then he opened the clams and set them onto a plate along with the huge shrimp, mussel’s corn, and some greens and potatoes.
He then got into the spider crab.
“I can honestly say that this is the best plate of food I’ve eaten in seven years Layla.”
“Why thank you Sir, but how come in seven years?
Well after eating chicken and greens every four hours; and tuna steak it’s nice to eat something a little different.”
“Are you an athlete, you sure look in good shape honey?
“Sort of into the body building game you know.’
“Well I’m glad that you have enjoyed my food.’
“What’s your name fella?
“Well Joe if you ever get lonely come on over to mamma she laughed.”
Joe paid her and left a ten dollar tip.”
“See you around big boy, said Layla as she fluttered her eye lashes at Joe.”
