Joe came back from the arena and lay on his bed in the Olympic Village he was shattered. He closed his eyes and was a sleep in less than five minutes.

“When he awoke Joe looked at the table and picked up his medals. He had won both the Snatch and the Clean and Jerk World titles so he got a gold medal for each of those. The Olympic Gold Medal and a medal for breaking the world record.

He was due for a press conference at seven o’clock that evening but he locked himself in his room he wasn’t speaking with anyone. He put on the television in his room where the played the replay of his world record lift. He watched it then his medal presentation then. switched off the television. At 7.15pm that evening his door banged and Gary was outside screaming for him to come out as the pressmen wanted to interview him.

“Not now Gary; I have some calls to make.”

“Have you got your urine sample then Gary asked.’ Joe passed him the bottle through a gap in the door and then relocked the door.

The next morning Joe came down to breakfast and everyone recognised him and came to shake his hand. He had to wear his medals for the press and there was a million questions. Joe thanked Gary Langford and Eric Sanderson again and his parents.

The cameras clicked away as Joe thanked them and then left. I want to go into town right now Gary said Joe.

Now whatever for?

Never mind just order me a cab. Joe ran back upstairs took off his medals then placed them back into their boxes then he put on a tee shirt, a pair of jeans, and his training shoes. “Where are your medals?

“Here you hold on to them I’m going.”

“What time will you be back Joe?

“I will see you in a few hours I just need to be alone.”

“Okay champ. See you soon.”

Joe got into the cab then asked the driver to take him into town.
“Take me to a barber shop will you?

He paid the cabbie then walked into Henry’s one of the 1200 shops in St Catherine Street he sat in the chair and the guy asked him how he would like his hair cut.

“Can you take a bit of the length off and trim my side burns pleas.

“Yes sir, said the black barber.

“Are you just visiting these parts sir?

“Yes, I’m here on business.

So how do you like Montreal?

It’s very nice not that I’ve had the chance to see much of it you know with the other tourists going to watch the games and all.”

“Where can I get a good meal around here?

“Well there’s the usual burger bars around here, but for value and good soul food go to Layla’s it’s about three blocks down on your right.
