“What’s funny said Joe as he said goodnight to the doorman and asked him to thank the committee on his behalf.

They crossed the road onto Wallsend Road then walked past the bus stop to the first house where Bella stopped.

“Here we are said Bella.”

“No wonders they were laughing said Joe. Is this your house; Yes, my parents left me some money when they died.”

“I’m sorry Bella I didn’t know.”

Bella turned the key in the lock and opened the door to the three bed roomed semi that was very nicely decorated with modern furniture.

“It’s lovely Bella it really is; so what do you do you never said?

I’m a doctor at Tynemouth Infirmary; I graduated two years ago because it is five years at university to become a doctor.”

“Well I won’t have far to go if I injure myself will I.”

“Can I make you something to eat Joe I know how you like your food.”

I’m on a special diet Bella and I keep to it rigorously.

My chicken is boiled and I eat only steamed vegetables. Even my mother cannot tempt me with her mince and dumplings as much as I love them when training for competition it is imperative to stick to the regime.

How long are you home for Joe said Bella as she sat next to him?

The smell of her perfume wafted in the air and it was intoxicating.

I have to be back at the training base in London on Monday morning at nine am sharp.

I’m flying from Newcastle which only takes an hour to get there.

“What time is your flight Joe?

“Twelve midnight.”

“Will you come and see me before you leave.”

“Are you not going out tomorrow night?”

“No, I would rather be alone with you.”

Alright I will tell the lads that I’m meeting you at seven o’clock is that too early?

Make it six o’clock Joe by the time you sit down your taxi will be here to take you to the airport.

My Father is driving me’ I hired a car courtesy of my sponsor so my father will return it.

“I will ask him to pick me up from here if that’s okay with you.”

“Perfect Joe; now are you going to kiss me before the dawn breaks or what?

Joe leant in and kissed Bella; her lips were soft and inviting his heart beat quickened as he held her in his arms.

“Oh Joe she gasped, I’ve waited so long for this moment; I thought that it would never come.

“I prayed every night for you to come back to me. Joe smothered her in little soft kisses around her neck then nibbled on her ear.’
