Where’s Kevin I’d better tell you about Kev’ please sit down.
He is coming isn’t he?
Yes mate he’s coming but there’s something you ought to know.
He went to sea like he said he would and now he has his own boat but he bought it with money he received from British Rail.
“I don’t understand what happened.
“He was coming back from a drinking session with us and stepped off the train he was drunk Joe and his foot slipped down the gap between the station platform and the door exit. We tried to pull him free Joe but the train pulled away taking his leg off above the knee.
Jesus Mary and Joseph said Joe.
How is he then?
He was poorly for a long time Joe and hit the bottle really badly but now he’s okay and hasn’t touched a drop in over a year.
“Thanks guys I’m glad that you told me.’
“What about you two then, did you get hitched or what?
“Yes I’m married to Agnes said Paul and I have a son who’s two this month. I called him Paul Kevin Kerrigan because Kev’ was my best man.”
“That’s great Paul and where are you living?”
“I live in the Quadrant now; Agnes will be here shortly she is dying to see you.”
“Did Kevin get married then?
“Yes he married a girl from Shields called Iris Thompson but it didn’t work out. You know; when he lost his leg Kev’ went off the rails like I said and she divorced him.”
Shame that; no kids.
No but guess what, he’s living with Brenda Wilson now and he’s happy as Larry.”
Guess who married Anne Colquhoun.
“Well you old dog you Ralphie, well done what happened to Bella then?
Well that’s the good bit my friend; she’s never married and wait until you see her mate you are going to wish that you never left.”
“Is she coming?
“She’s coming with Agnes her sister, remember.”
“Yeah; said Joe in his American twang I remember.”
Joe kept glancing towards the door as the compare got on the stage and announced that a Shieldsman had returned to his roots. Please give a warm welcome to Joe Kimber ladies and gentleman. Please come up a moment Joe let’s have a look at you.
“Not that you hard to make out the size of you.”
Joe walked to the stage then stepped forward as everyone in the room stood up and applauded.
“Well what’s it like to be home Joe.
“If I knew id get a welcome like this I would never have left.”
