“We should bring a picnic here in the summer and camp out Kevin pointed out to the girls.
My Dad let me camp out last year we pitched our tent over there Paul stated.
“How big is your tent asked Joe would it fit four of us in it?
“Oh quite easily said Paul.
“Good then you can bring it in the school holidays and we can all camp out. I’m sure the girls will come along too said Joe looking at Bella.
“Who’s got some money asked Kevin?
“I’ve got two shillings said Paul.
“I’ve got a tanner replied Ralphie;
Kev and I have a bob each so why don’t you slip to the shop down there and get a bag of toffees and a bottle of pop Paul.”
“Alright loan me your carrier bag then, Paul took hold of the plastic bag then took out the rope and the balls.
“I will go with you said Agnes.”
“What pop should I get?
Cream soda said Joe
Dandelion and Burdock.
“Make up your minds fellas what’s it gonna be?
“Let’s vote on it. All those for cream soda put up your hand Joe immediately put up his hand.
“Limeade? Paul put up his hand.
“Sarsaparilla? Kevin and Ralph put up their hands
“Dandelion and Burdock? Brenda, Anne, and Bella put up their hands.
“Dandelion and Burdock wins by one vote.”
“We are going back across there Paul so don’t be long.” The girls picked up the skipping rope and the tennis balls then walked back the way they had come. Joe spotted a big salamander and drove the net into the pond. He scooped it up and then brought the net towards himself.
“I’ve got it he exclaimed; bring me the jar over. Wait until Mrs Forest sees this one. It will go lovely in the fish tank in our classroom.”
Joe placed it in the jar then watched as it swam about. They placed a couple of big stones inside so the salamander could come out and rest. Joe added some pond plants, skipper beetles and other insects that the salamander would eat.
The girls stopped by a crop of bushes where the ground was harder where they began to skip as Kevin, Ralphie, and Joe took pot shots at the tin cans on the wall.
