Missing in Action

A poem I wrote for Remembrance Sunday. From the perspective of a deceased's loved one.

1. Missing in Action

Crowds waiting in the streets
Watching, waiting
Where are those they love most ?
All around you
They surround you
People ,
The lucky ones
Those that have theirs back
They embrace
And the knot in your stomach gets tighter
As you remember
You will never see your man again
For he is lost inbetween unmarked graves
But will forever be in flanders fields

Across the road your friend
Cries tears of joy as she spottes her fiancé
a couple of meters  away
You turn around sudenly
As you feel a hand on your shoulder
hopeing it would be Him
No-one there
The cold shadow of a part of your heart that is "missing in action"
