“Is that the ring?” Scooter asked, admiring the ring on her hand as he stood backstage with Krystal while Justin did his interview on the Jimmy Fallon show.
“Yeah,” She smiled, “It's beautiful, isn't it?”
“It is,” He nodded, “I'm really glad you said yes. Justin didn't think you would when I told him, but it's what's best for his career.”
“Wait, what?” A frown crossed her features.
“With the video being leaked, we decided it was best for you guys to get engaged so the backlash from the public wouldn't be as severe,” Scooter frowned as well, “He didn't tell you?”
She immediately felt her blood start to boil in anger and her heart immediately started aching, “No.” She said softly.
“Look, I'm really sorry,” Scooter swallowed hard, he had truly thought she knew, “I honestly thought you knew and that's why you agreed to it.”
“No,” She shook her head, “I didn't,” She stood from her spot on the couch and grabbed her purse, “Listen, I gotta get outta here for a little while. Tell Justin I went back to the hotel.” She didn't wait for a response as she made her way out of the room. Her pace quickened as she practically ran out of the building and onto the street. The tears started to stream down her cheeks as she immediately hailed a Taxi and gave them the address of the hotel. It wasn't long before she was running into the hotel to pack her bags and head home; hoping that she could get out of there before Justin made it back to the hotel.
“She seemed pretty upset when she left,” Scooter spoke nervously to Justin. Justin had just finished his interview and came backstage, expecting Krystal to be waiting for him, “I swear man, I didn't know.”
“You didn't know what?” Justin gave him a look.
“I thought she knew about you asking her to marry you because of the backlash we'd get otherwise. I swear I didn't mean to tell her,” Scooter looked sincerely sorry.
“OMG! You didn't,” Justin shook his head, knowing this was going to be very bad.
“I'm really sorry, man. I swear, I didn't know,” Scooter kept apologizing.
“I need to get back to the hotel,” Justin swallowed nervously and immediately headed for the door.
“We have another interview a few blocks from here,” Scooter reminded, trying to keep up with Justin's quick pace.
“Cancel it,” Justin demanded, “I need to get back to her.”
“But JB...” Justin cut him off.
“No. Cancel the damn interview! You did this! I swear if you fucked this up for me,” He shook his head, not finishing his sentence as they got into the limo. Justin instructed the driver to take them back to the hotel immediately. Justin's knee bounced nervously as the limo sped towards the hotel. It was only a matter of minutes before they'd arrived and Justin got out, running into the hotel and making his way towards the stairs, skipping the elevator. He found his floor and ran down the long hallway to his room. He slid his key in the door and pushed it open, taking a step inside. He surveyed the room around him as the door slammed behind him. Her things were gone and she was nowhere to be seen. His eyes fell to the nightstand and he made his way towards it, noticing that she'd placed the ring he gave her on top of the note she'd written.
Scooter told me that the only reason you asked me to marry you was because it would soften the blow of the backlash from the video of us making love. He told me it was his idea. I don't ever want to be with someone who doesn't truly love me and want me, but does things for his own selfish reason. I love you and I'm sorry, but I'm done. This is it. Maybe someday we can be friends again, but right now my heart is broken. Please don't contact me.
His heart immediately shattered into a thousand pieces as the tears began to trail down his cheeks. He'd lost her because he didn't tell her the whole truth. He knew if he'd told her, he wouldn't be in this predicament right now and that killed him more than anything. He really did want to marry her and spend his life with her. Sure, he might not have chosen this exact moment to propose if it weren't for the video, but he knew she was the one. He knew that she was the one person in all the world who he wanted to spend the rest of his life with and he couldn't just let her walk away like this. He had to try to get her back.
