It was dark out and Alys and the boys had long gone to bed, but something kept me awake. There was a nervous energy coursing through me. I rolled over a couple of times but sleep never came. Finally I stood up from the bed as quietly as I could. I kissed Alys's forehead and then pulled on some shoes and a sweater and passed through the living room where Niall was sleeping. I made it to the door to the suite and opened it my eyes immediately landed on the bright red rose outside the door. I slowly picked it up, my hands shaking, and slammed the door shut so hard that Niall came awake. He rushed over it me.
"What is it, Harry?" He asked, but then he saw too: the rose.
"How does he know where we are?" Asked Niall in a hushed whisper. I shook my head and brought the rose to the table. I stared at it, hard. What was the meaning of this?
"Mate, there's a note outside."
I walked over to Niall, who bended down and picked up a small, rectangular paper. It was the color of lavender. On the paper was scrawling, untidy words that read:
This rose is for you. You forgot to take
it when I offered it to you.
"Huh," said Niall. He turned to the back of the paper to see if any more of William's writing was there, but it was blank. He flipped it over again to the words. "You think we should show this to Alys?"
I run a hand through my hair. I didn't really know if I could answer Niall's question. It could hurt Alys.
"Harry?" Said Niall with a bit of uncertainty.
"No. We won't show her. Not yet, at least. It could be dangerous."
"I don't know. I'm just not sure about this note myself."
"Okay. Then should we tell the other boys?"
Niall nodded. "Okay...well, Harry, try to get some sleep, mate. I'm going to bed." He walked over to the couch and slumped down on it, putting an arm over his eyes.
I quickly put away the note and rose in a drawer in the desk in the living room. I pray to God that Alys won't go looking for it. I go back to the bedroom and slump down. Alys moved closer to me and her grey eyes fluttered open.
"Hey," she whispered softly. She took one look at me and she knew. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing," I mumble. "Alys, you should get some sleep."
Her eyes searched mine, then she reached up and gave me a soft kiss on the lips and rolled over, closing her eyes.
I leaned down next to her warm body, and with the reassurance of Alys close to me, I fell asleep.
