As he got closer I started to get nervous. I've never been around anybody without long sleeves or pants that covered my thighs. I made sure the blanket hid my tiny body.
"Do you mind if I sit?" He asked with an accent.
"Umm.. N-no." I stupidly stutter. I stutter every time I get nervous.
"My names Luke Hemmings by the way. I saw you when I was unpacking my room."
"I'm Serena Riley and sorry about that. I-I just can't remember the last time somebody was in that house." I blush a little due to the fact he had actually caught me staring.
"I've heard it's been awhile." He stopped talking for a minute. I realized he was pulling something out of his pocket. In his hand was a pack of cigarettes. "Do you mind?" He asks. I shake my head 'no'. He lights the cigarette and takes a big inhale.
I watch as his cheeks go hollow. I can't help but admire how amazing his features are.
"So how old are you?" He asks.
"Umm.. 17." I couldn't help but feel a little awkward. Nobody has every been so forward with me.
"Yeah. Me too. Looks like we will be going to school together next year." I give him a small nod. It goes quiet again. I look up at him only to see him already looking at me.
That's when I realized the makeup that covered my bruise this morning is no longer on after my shower. I better thank my mom for that.
"Hey.. W-what happene..." I see him looking closely due to the small amount of light we had from inside.
Before he could finish asking what happened I cut him off by standing up "I think I'm going to go to bed. It was nice to meet you Luke."
I walk inside before he could say anything.
I've been sitting on my bed staring at the wall for the past hour. The urge to take the pain in my heart away is strong.
Luke brought the feelings back that I felt right after my mom hit me and all he did was ask one simple question.
Before I could second guess myself I'm in the bathroom with the razor blade in my hand. Where should I this time? I decide to take the pain out on my wrist for the 2nd time this week.
After stopping the bleeding I walk back into my room and see Luke in his room. I can't help but watch him through the window.
He seemed to be taking off his shirt. I see him throw it in the corner. He turns around only to catch me staring at him once again today.
Without seeing his reaction I close my curtain, shut off the light, and fall asleep to the sound of the blades of my fan spinning above me.
The next morning I wake up around 9. I don't know how long I just lay there staring at the ceiling. Until I decide to go for another run.
This time I'm sure to cover the bruise even though I'm usually alone in the woods. I put on leggings and a purple hoodie with a black
sports bra underneath. I slip on my Nikes and throw my hair into a high ponytail. I grab my phone and headphones and start my journey through the woods.
I reach my 2 mile mark and start running back. I concentrate on my feet and the dirt in front. That's when I run into something hard causing me to fall back I look up expecting to see a tree but, standing in front of me is the one and only Luke Hemmings.
"Oh my Serena! I'm so sorry. I didn't think anyone else would be in here." He looks sincere as he is apologizing.
"It's honestly okay. I should have been paying attention." I'm actually slightly embarrassed for not paying attention for once.
"I didn't catch you as the kind of girl who likes to run?" We both laugh awkwardly.
"So can I take you to lunch or something to make up for this incident?" I look at him and he has a smile plastered on his face as he asks me to go to lunch.
I was hesitant at first but finally gave in. We run back out of the woods in silence mostly due to the fact that we both had music playing.
I stopped my music and started toward my house when I heard Luke calling my name.
"Be ready in an hour." I gave him a smile before walking into my house and up the stairs to get ready.
First thing I did was take a quick shower. I changed into white long sleeved shirt with 'Under Armour' written across the front in bright pink and the symbol in the lower right. Next I changed into a pair of black leggings that went down to my ankles and threw on a pair of black combat boots.
Finally I recovered the bruise on my face and did a little mascara and liquid eyeliner on the top eye lid.
I grabbed my phone before running downstairs after hearing the doorbell go off knowing that it's Luke because he's right on time. I opened the door to a bright and warming smile.
"Ready?" He asked. I nodded my head in response. The car ride was silent but it wasn't an awkward silence. Every now and then I'd take a glance at Luke and sometimes I'd see him glance at me.
After about 20 minutes we pull up at a old fashioned restaurant. He walked over to my side of the car and opened the door for me like a true gentleman.
We walked in side by side and were led to a booth in the back of the restaurant.
We both ordered a glass of water.
"So anything look good?" He asked seeming really interested in what I might consider ordering.
"Actually I was wondering if you just wanted to split something. I-if that's okay with you of course?" I asked nervously.
"Sure. How about the wings with a side of fries?" I nodded in approval. He ordered our food then we fell into a comfortable silence.
"So.. Do you have any hobbies?" He asked almost seeming nervous talking to me.
"I like to sing and play guitar even though I'm not that good. I like running of course. I used to be a gymnast and I used to cheer. What about you?" He gave me a smile before saying he also likes to sing and play guitar. I gave him the same smile in return. He stared at me before breaking the silence once again.
"D-do you have a boyfriend? You seem like a really quiet person so I'm just curious." I giggle at how nervous he was to ask me the question.
"I used to. We broke up about a month ago because I didn't want to...umm." He stopped me by giving me a nod saying he knew what I meant. I didn't really want to say that I wouldn't give up my virtue to him. He apologized for bringing it up which he didn't have to do.
Everything went quiet until our food arrived. We ate it in silence. Me having 2 wings and about 5 fries. Luke on the other hand, had about 8 wings and at least 30 fries. We got the rest of the food to go and he payed for the meal.
"I think you got ketchup or something on your sleeve." I looked down and realized it wasn't ketchup. Somehow I broke open one of my cuts and it was actually bleeding. I wasn't smart for actually wearing white today.
"Oh.. Umm.... C-can we...." I never really realized how bad I was at lying. I couldn't help but start over reacting. I was scared. For once in my life I was scared because I thought me and Luke could actually be friends and if he knows now then he'll judge me for sure.
"Serena are you okay? What is it?" I think I was starting to scare him but I didn't care. That's when I noticed him reaching for my arm.
Before I could react he had it in his hand. He grabbed a napkin and started dabbing the red of the sleeve.
"See we can just do this to get the stain..." He stopped mid-sentence and that's when I saw what he saw, in an attempt to get the stain off, my sleeve fell down reveling the scars and cuts I held deep underneath and I couldn't stop the tears from running down my face anymore.
