The Boy Who Came And Went

Sam, abused and told he didn't belong anywhere. He believed it, and lived his life like they were right... until now.

3. The Bus

"Thank you for this," Sam said meaningfully to the nurse.

"No problem. It wasn't that hard to find those papers actually." The nurse said.

"Really? Wow. Okay, well, thank you again for the papers."

"No problem. I would say that I'd hope to see you again, but that wouldn't be a good visit more than likely." The nurse said only half joking.

"Okay. I will try not to get stabbed again. I promise that I will try really hard. Don't worry about me. I will be fine once this wound heals up." Sam said to the nurse before leaving the hospital. Finally, Sam thought, after about a week in that hospital I am really glad to be walking again. Even if it means I hurt my wound a little bit.

"Hey, what's up Sam?" Bella asked as Sam was about to cross the road to get onto a bus.

"Nothing. Just leaving to get a motel room, rest up a little bit, and then hopefully I will be able to read some. What are you doing here Izzy?" Sam answers back truthfully.

"Nothing much. I was just on my way in to see how you are healing up. What's with he nickname? Everyone calls me Bella, not Izzy." Bella asks curiously.

"I like the nickname Izzy better than I like Bella or Isabella. I think that it is a unique name that I came up with for you. Do you like it? If not I can just call you Bella." Sam says questioning his nickname for her.

"No. It's fine. I love that nickname. It's just that nobody has called me that before. And it is different, but I like it a lot actually."

"Good. I like that I gave you a unique nickname that no one has ever given you before. Anyway, why were you going to see me? Don't you have better things to do with your life than see some guy that you barely know?"

"Well, I was off today, and I thought that I got visiting rights since I kind of saved your life you know? If you didn't want me to come and visit you, then you should have told me. I'm sorry that I actually cared about you. I leave now, bye." Bella says angrily and yet sadly at the same time.

"No! Please don't go! I'm sorry. It's just that I'm not used to anyone caring about me, and I am definitely not used to having company around." Sam says quickly, regretting his earlier statement.

"Why are you not used to anyone caring about you? Didn't you grow up with parents? Why aren't you used to having company around? Don't you have a girlfriend?" Bella asks curiously.

"I am not used to being cared about because my mom ran out on me when I was young and my dad didn't care about me at all. All he did was work, get drunk, and then come home and beat me. He blames me for my mom leaving us alone. I'm not used to having company around because I have been on my own for a few years. As soon as I turned eighteen my dad kicked me out. I don't have a girlfriend, and I thought that you were my girlfriend? Seeing as how that's what you told the hospital." Sam says, getting a little angry at the thought of his parents.

"I'm sorry. I didn't know about your parents, and I only lied to the hospital so that they'd let me see you. I wanted to make sure that you were okay. I mean besides the stab wound, but you should get the idea." Bella explained.

"Okay. Whatever. Can I go to the motel now? I would like an actual bed and some greasy food that's not from a hospital cafeteria."

"Okay. I'll drive you. I'm fine. I can ride the bus."

"No, you won't! I am going to drive you. You can't ride the public bus with a stab wound. You could get hit, and the wound could reopen. Which would mean another visit to the hospital, and I am pretty sure that you have had enough of the hospital."

"That is very true. Okay, where is your car at?"

"What car? I don't drive cars because cars are for wimps, and I am not a wimp. I drive a red dodge pickup. I also find that comment to be sexist and rude."

"What comment? The comment about me asking where your car is?"

"Yeah. That's the comment that I was talking about."

"I'm sorry. I just didn't think that you'd be the type of person to drive a pickup.

"Well I am, so you can get your happy ass over it. Got it buddy?"

"Yeah, I got it loud and clear Izzy."

"Okay. Good, let's go get some food."

"Where is the best place to eat around here?"

"That would be the best of the two diners in this town."

"Let's go then. I am sure as hell famished, and I am sure ready for some fries. They do have fries right Izzy?"

"Yes, this diner does have fries. I wouldn't recommend a restaurant that doesn't have good fries."
