25. Calum's Last Smile.
Luke's dark figure angrily penetrated the room, his jaw was clenched tight and his eyes were dark as his intimidating stare met Calum's. His whole body was tense and his presence continued to grow more and more unnerving by the second. Luke hastily paced towards Calum not saying a word. Luke's silence was dangerous. It was a huge indicator that this would not end well.
As Luke grew closer I could feel my heart pound at my chest and fear flood my body. I was so afraid. Calum stood tall, waiting for the beating he was expecting. He didn't say anything either. But his silence was more because of disappointment then anger or fear. He thought he was going to get Luke back. The Luke he had met when he was younger, who looked after him and taught him how to box and stand up for himself. But I could tell by the boyish look on his face now that he knew it was over. He was giving up. He couldn't stand up to Luke and wasn't even going to try, not even to explain or calm the situation. Calum just stood there, waiting. Waiting for the flood of pain he would feel next and hoping that it wouldn't last too long.
Calum turned his face towards me, making eye contact and smiled. Tears were now falling down my cheeks and my breathing was becoming irrational but he continued to look in my direction keeping that comforting smile for a little while longer. But I broke my gaze and turned to face the quickly approaching figure. I had seen Luke angry before and I know I have said this a thousand times but, what I hadn’t seen and what I never thought would ever even be possible to see, was Luke like this. I had never seen him look so threatening. So, not him.
Would this be Calum's last smile?
