“We are rich Robert do you really need to look for more treasure your father was old you know and he may have had dementia.

My father loved riddles Pat; I know he’s not lying.

Robert picked up the phone and asked his sons to come over.

They both wanted to know what was so important but their father just said that he would explain when they got there.

It was nine o’clock when Robert and James arrived at their father’s home; Robert picked up his younger brother in his Ford Cortina the set of for the Red Road.

“Did dad tell you anything James?

“Not a dickie bird.”

“I wonder what it is.”

Well it’s not mam; I spoke to her only this morning said Robert.”

“Guess we will have to wait and see won’t we.”

The car turned along Bedlay Street then pulled outside of the tower block.

“Let’s hope the bloody lift is working aye.”

There were some kids playing “Kick the Can” and Robert gave them a tanner to look after the car. They got into the lift with the usual smell of urine and tried holding their breaths until the lift reached the twenty seventh floors.

Then they rang the door bell where their mother let them in. They both kisses her then walked into the living room where their father was looking at some post cards.

“Sit down boys I have something to tell you.

Robert Senior went on to tell them about their grandfather and his adventures abroad. Then he told them about the riddle and showed them the lump of gold.

Robert checked it and told him that it was pure gold and that it was probably worth around twenty thousand pounds. Now I think your grandfather knows the whereabouts of a mine somewhere and if we can find the stone made of tin then it might lead us to a lot of gold.

Come on dad do you really believe your father’s stories said James.

My father was a merchant seaman the wages were good but not this good; he opened the briefcase and the money spilled out onto the wool carpet on the floor.

“Bloody hell dad how much is there?

Twenty seven thousand pounds plus I have the deeds to a property in Tynemouth in the North East of England. So will you be moving then?

I guess so; why pay rent here when there is a house bought and paid for. Now I want you to have this money. I will go to McGowan’s Jewellers shop and get this nugget valued.

Get ourselves a suit and tie because we have a funeral to attend on Monday. Are we going to Tynemouth?

“Yes we can drive down there in my car with your mother.

“I will have to take compassionate leave from work dad but I will ring Michael Douglas my boss tomorrow.”
