6. Chapter 6

The only place you could ever read in Dad’s without being disrupted was the basement, so you had practically lived down there the second half of the previous summer. The only person who had ever gone down there with you was Eli.

The two of you had a thing where you would read a book and if it was good he would read it, and if he read a book and thought it was good you would read it. Currently he was reading Between Shades of Gray and you were reading The Maze Runner. Eli had gotten to the part where Lina had to go to the new camp and Andruis had told her, “I’ll see you.”

Eli looked up from the book. “Do they see eachother again?” He asked quietly. You also looked up from your book and looked at him.

“I can’t tell you.” You said while smiling at him.

“No, you have to read it to find out.” You said back.

He sighed and continued to read. He was very determined to find out. He didn’t put the book down unless it was time to eat, sleep, or he had to go to the bathroom.

The next day he woke up early so he could read the book. He finally finished it that morning. He walked over to you sleeping on the couch and woke you. You were sleeping on the couch in the basement because it was too hot in your room and he also slept down there on the other couch.

You woke up and he looked as happy as a little kid on Christmas. “Did you finish the book?” you asked sleepily.

“Yeah… They did see eachother again.” he said smiling.

You laughed quietly. “Did you like the book?”

“Yeah, it was an amazing book.”

You smiled. “Eli?”

“What time is it?”

“Um, it’s six thirty…”

“What time did you get up to finish it?”

“Five…” he replied sheepishly.

You smiled and closed your eyes and snuggled into the couch. “You should go back to sleep. I’ll wake you up later.”

“Okay.” He walked back to the couch and fell asleep almsot instantly as he layed down again.

Ever since then you had always said ‘I’ll see you’ as a form of comfort. It was kind of an inside joke.
