Liz Does Not Approve

"Your mom hates me!" I yelled.

"No she doesn't," Luke tries to comfort me.

"Yes I do," Liz replies walking in.

3. Getting Caught

Luke's POV

"What do you think of this song?" I ask playing San Francisco for Hannah.

We were in the front of the school, sitting on top of a tree. She had my headphones on and I was playing some songs from Sounds Good Feels Good.

I watched as she listened, playing with the tip of her hair.

"Do you like it?" I ask.

She presses the pause button on my phone and I wait for a reaction.

"Its too... happy," she replies.

Happy? What's wrong with happy?

"So you like sad songs?"

"I like relatable songs," she says.

"Well listen to this one," I play Broken Home.

She listens to the whole thing, starring off into space with a blank look.

When the song finishes, she takes the headphones off and sighs.

"That's got to be the best song on your album."

"So you liked it?"

Before she could answer the bell had rung.

"Um, I should go to my next class," she changes the subject and begins to try and get down from the tree.

She accidentally slips and begins to fall down. Luckily, I had grabbed her hand quickly and held her so she wouldn't fall.

"Are you okay?" I ask worriedly lifting her back up.

"Yeah..." she says kind of out of breathe.

"Hannah?" we both hear a voice say.

When we look down we see one of the teachers, who I'm guessing was one of Hannah's.

Uh oh.

Hannah's POV

"This is the fifth time you ditched class this week, Hannah," Mr. Springer, the principle says while pacing around his office.

"Fourth..." I correct him.

"Whatever! I have given you so many chances. I'm calling your parents," he walks over to his phone and begins to call them.

"Go ahead."

He gives me a look full with pity, before putting the phone down, and sitting down on his chair.

"Hannah, what's going on? Its like you don't even care about getting in trouble with your parents anymore..."

"Thats cuz I dont," I cross my arms.

He sighs and leans back on his chair.

"I remember when you were in your freshman year and you'd always be getting in trouble, except when ever I threatened to call your parents you'd get scared and tell me you wouldn't do whatever you did again. What's happened since then?"

I stare at the wall not wanting to look at him.

"Hannah..." he wants an answer. I sigh.

"Back then the only way for them to notice me would be to not get in trouble and get straight A's. Now.... the only way to get their attention is to ditch class, vandalize the school, break into houses, get into a crash from drunk driving.... all that stuff..."

"There are other ways-"

"No theres not!" I raise my voice.

The bell telling us that school was over had rung and I wanted to leave now.

"If I wanted family advice I'd ask. So can you just write me a detention slip and let me go now?" I ask.

He stares at me for a few seconds before standing up from his seat.

"Go," he says.

I look at him confused.

"Soooo do I come for the detention slip tomorrow?"

"I'm not giving you detention. I mean what's the point? You clearly don't care so it wont help you from not ditching class again," he explains.

Wow, okay then...

I get up with my backpack and leave his office without anther word.

As I walk down the hall I see Luke with a bunch of girls taking pictures.

I stop walking and stare.

"Hey, where were you?" Jade asks coming up from behind.

"Oh I was just-" I begin to explain when Luke's eyes met mine.

He just kept looking at me and I wanted it to stop.

"I'll tell you later," I quickly answer Jade, before walking away.
