5. Expected

A nurse pulled a blanket over Willow's head and the other hospital staff started packing away their equipment. Suddenly, BEEP! Everyone froze. Every sound paused. And every eye turned to the dead redhead. They thought they had imagined it when, BEEP! The machine called out again. Two was all they needed and the medically trained people rushed back to work. The beeps got closer together, and then, Willow groaned.
Xander cheered from behind them and a smile so wide it looked like it hurt cut across Tara's face. Buffy uncontrollably copied her friends expression. Willow had come back to life.
Later that day, Willow was resting in a different room in the hospital, under nurse and Scooby supervision. The doctor who had been called “Al” earlier knocked on the door and gestured for the Scoobies to follow him. They all did, somewhat reluctantly. “Hello, My name is Dr. Allen Brook.” He said to the group, which had now gained a watcher. Giles had taken the first flight out after Anya called him with the news about Willow. He had arrived less than an hour ago. Buffy had her arms crossed over her chest and was shifting her weight from foot to foot. “Do you know what made Willow-” She trailed off, not wanting to say it. “Yeah what happened? One second she's fine and laughing in her bed and the next-” Xander stopped, he didn't want to admit that what had happened actually did happen either. He wanted to pretend it was just a really bad, bad dream, but, it wasn't. “Yes we do. In her blood stream we found very high doses of strong opioids. Which are medicines used to treat severe or long term chronic pain. I don't know how she came into contact with them. But we do know they were ingested orally. We looked through the room she was in and found two empty bottles of them. We are going to do a few tests on her to see if the high dosage caused any brain damage.” “Brain damage?” Dawn gasped, her eyes filling with water and she started to shake uncontrollably. Buffy wrapped her arms around her sister and hugged her tightly as she cried. “Please say she's gonna be okay?” Buffy's voice cracked when she asked the doctor her question. “I'm sorry, I can't be sure at this point. I'm really sorry.” He said and made to turn away but Xander said “Hey, are we allowed to go back into her room?” Dr. Brook looked back at Xander. “Not right now. We'll let you know when you can go back in.” he turned and left, disappearing through Willow's door. Anya looked at Tara, whose face was fixed in concentration. 'Um Tara, you okay?” She asked, Tara didn't respond. “Tara, hello? You in there Tara?” Anya asked and lightly poked the witches arm. Tara's eyes darted to the bag she had brought with her and she rushed to it. She picked it up and dug through it. Anya, along with Giles, Xander and Buffy watched the blonde curiously. “Um, what are you doing, Tara?” Buffy asked, but she didn't answer. Tara pulled out a small tin container and a plastic bag, then dropped the larger bag on the floor. She moved over to the coffee table in the middle of the waiting room and pushed it aside. She sat down cross-legged where the table used to be and opened the container. The container was nearly filled to the brim with a red powder. Tara took a handful of the powder and muttered something in latin. Then lightly sprinkled the powder in a circle around herself and made a stick figure shape in front of her. First she put the lid back on the container, then undid the zip lock on the bag. She took out a centimeter long blue crystal that was about the width of a pencil and a marble sized green gem. Tara placed the gem on the head of the stick figure and the crystal down the torso of its body. She muttered more latin words. Then, in english, she said “Heal my beloved.” The red powder rippled. Tara closed her eyes. “Heal my beloved.” Another ripple followed her words. “Heal her now.” She said, angrily. A faster ripple shot through the red powder, but in the opposite direction. “Heal. Her. Now!” She said forcefully. Another ripple, followed by another, and another, and another. [Willow's Hospital Room]> A nurse was playing with the controls to one of the machines connected to Willow. The nurse finished changing its settings and left the room. Suddenly, Willow's head, shoulders and heels pushed back on the bed and lifted the rest of her body up. That sudden motion was accompanied with a loud thump. She dropped back down. Then thump! It happened again. Less than a second after she hit the bed, she was pushed back upwards. [Inside WIllow's Head]> “STOP IT! STOP IT! STOP IT!” The younger Willow screamed into the nothingness that surrounded her. “STOP FIXING ME!” She was sobbing on her knees. The creepier version of Willow walked in front of the other. “Would you like my help?” She asked with a sly smile. The redheaded Willow stopped screaming and looked at the black haired one. “I thought you wanted me to heal, why would you stop someone else from healing me?” Dark Willow laughed, and it sent a shiver down teenage Willow's spine. “I can heal you just fine, I don't need anyone to help me. If you want to stop someone else from getting in here,” She looked around the seemingly endless dark room. “then all you've got to do is ask.” Teen Willow hesitated, then said “Fine, can you help me?” Dark Willow's smile broadened. “Thought you'd never ask.” She disappeared and reappeared inches away from her teenage self. “Lets get weird.” She said with a suggestive smile, then grabbed her redheaded counterpart by the shoulders.
Purple energy surged throughout the room. And then, 16 year old Willow was the only Willow left in site. Her eyes turned black and so did her veins. “I reject your spell.” She said to the darkness in a slightly deeper voice.
[Waiting Room]> Tara muttered “Willow please, let me help you.” “I reject your spell.” Willow's voice said inside her exes head. Tara's eyes shot open, and she fell backwards. The red powder and the stick figure caught on fire. And burned into nothing. The fire went out and Tara was the only thing left on the floor that was used for the spell. Buffy let go of her sister and rushed to the blonde witch. “Tara? Tara are you okay? Please tell me you're okay?” She asked the witch with concern. Tara started to slowly cry and quietly mumbled “She won't let me help her.” [Inside Willow's Head]> “I'm sorry, Tara.” Willow said into the darkness of the room of which she seemed to be confined in.
