22. Dark

Cloudless thunder boomed throughout the entirety of the black-red sky and a brilliantly white lightning bolt cracked like a whip from the edge of the dimension to the surface of its only planet.

The center of a gray street was the bolts landing point. Lines like giant, black veins rippled through the stone street and at its center was a girl lying curled up on her stomach.

Her eyes opened groggily and she pushed herself up. She rubbed her eyes and looked around the street. Fear paled her skin to near paper whiteness, she spun on the spot, her breaths becoming rapid and scared.

Growls echoed down the street and the redhead halted, staring towards the frightful sounds. She gulped and whispered a single word.

“Tara?”

[A Few Hundred Miles Away]> The Master inhaled deeply and held onto the unnecessary breath. When he exhaled he said “A human, how strange.”

“Darla!”The ancient vampire snapped. “Yes Master?”Darla answered, slightly fearful. “A human has just been placed here. Be good girl and fetch it for me.”

She smiled, relieved he wasn't angry with her about something. The much younger vampire nodded happily. “Yes Master. Right away.” She turned and walked out.

When she was out of his site she took off at an extreme sprint.

[Lightnings Impact Point]> “Uh hello?” Willow called out. No reply met her ears and she started walking in the direction of the growls because, well she was a Scooby.

A vampire usually is a bit faster than the average human, but in this dimension their speed rivaled that of an airliner. Darla's feet were silent as she ran, following her nose. Even through she hadn't smelt nor tasted a human since her death.

No human had fit the criteria to get into this hell dimension since Hitler. This one was reserved for the worst big bads around. Darla was considering drinking the human herself and telling the Master she'd found the human empty.

She skidded to a halt a hundred or so meters from the human as a thought hit her.

What is this human? How did it get sent here? Then she gulped as another thought bubbled to the surface of her mind. Could I win a fight against this human?

She shook her head to clear it. If Darla were to return without the human the Master would surely punish her. Swallowing her nerves, Darla closed the distance between her and the human to just over 8 feet.

Willow's feet had apparently lost the ability to move because, as a figure approached her, all the redhead could do was stare fearfully at it. “Um, hi.” She said uncertainly. The figure didn't respond. The witch took a deep breath to calm herself. “Okay uh, hi I, I uh come in peace?” Darla laughed. How did this bimbo get here. The vampire thought with amusement.

Darla stopped 4 steps away from the redhead with a cocky smile on her face. Willow's eyes widen as an idea blossomed in her head. “I-I'm a witch.” She said nodding. “Yeah, I'm a witch, a-a powerful witch and I'll uh not hurt you if you go,” She said in a voice no one would believe held any truth in it.

Darla looked her up and down, then said “I haven't had a human in a long while.”She sniffed the air and grinned. “You smell guilty. What did you do?” Tara's face swam in front of Willow's eyes and a hot pang hit her stomach.

“I don't know what you're talking about.” The redhead lied, forcing her pain and her anger at herself down.

Darla's grin widened. “Aw, come one. You can tell me, please.” She said mischievously. Willow, you are using too much magic. The beautiful voice of Willow's love said inside her head.

“I-I don't know what you're talking about.” Willow repeated. Her emotions starting to show. Darla stepped closer slowly. “Come one.” She said in a soft and hungry voice. What do you want me to do, just,

“What did you do?” just sit back and keep my mouth shut? Willow's own voice spoke inside her head now. Well, that'd be a good start. Tara's reaction to that sentence hit her like a wrecking ball. “Who did you hurt?” Darla said in a near whisper as she stared into Willow's green eyes.

If I didn't love you so damn much I would!

That brilliantly white lightning hit Willow square in the back.

The air between Darla and Willow rippled as power surged into the witch. Her veins pumped black, her hair grew into a cascading black river, her skin whiter than paper and her eyes became endless pools of darkness.

If I didn't love you so damn much I would!

The lightning writhed in the air as Darla grew weaker and Willow grew stronger.

IF I DIDN'T LOVE YOU! Tara's shortened words screamed to all of Willow's mind.

The rippled space between them stopped and Darla fell unconscious. But the rest continued. Tara's words were then shortened even more and made impossibly louder.

I DIDN'T LOVE YOU!

The lightning vanished and Willow's head and shoulders slumped forward and she fell to her knees.

Her clothes had changed. Becoming black and sleek.  The every makeup of the dimension was tingling around her.

i didn't love you.

And then, a fully-fledged Dark Willow stood in the dimension for the most powerful big bads ever.
