62. Morning of Show and Tell

Jaden's POV

Early in the night, but late at the same time, I woke up to a jiggling of the bed. I opened my eyes, but quickly shut them as I saw Lei look at me as she got out of bed. She was silent, but drew in a deep breath as she left her room. She's just going to the bathroom, I thought. I saw a bright, yet dim, light flicker on in the kitchen. It turned off just as suddenly as it turned on, then I heard the fan of the bathroom, and the lock of a door.

Minutes later, I started to hear dripping, as if Lei left the faucet in the bathroom on.

Drip, drip, drop.

I waited in bed, trying to fall asleep. The dripping of that faucet was so irritating.

Drip, drip, drop.

Just stay in bed, Jade. Stay in bed. The Lei you know will turn the faucet off eventually. I repeated this in my head dozens of times, the dripping still fuzzy in the background.

Drip, drip, drop.

OKAY! I sprung up, now sitting up in Lei's bed. I tried to force myself to go back down, Lei will do it. I couldn't stay still. I tiptoed out of bed, out of Lei's bedroom. Slowly walking to the bathroom, I saw that the door was closed. I tried opening it. Is it locked? No, there's no one in there. I tried the door one more time, the door finally coming free. I slowly opened the door and flicked on the lights. I didn't see anything, except for some blood in the sink. I almost threw up, but I supposed it was just my 3 AM mind messing with me.

"Lei? Are you in here?" I whispered into the empty light.

No answer.

"Lei?" I whispered her name about three more times before leaving the bathroom. I walked back into Lei's room wen I realized I had to actually go to the bathroom. Rolling my eyes, I went back to the bathroom and did my business.

After I washed the hallucinated blood out of the sink, I washed my hands and left the bathroom. I opened the door to Lei's room to see her body resting on her bed. At first I thought it was the wind, but then I listened closer and realized it was Lei whispering to herself.

"Hushabye, baby, you're almost dead. You don't have a pulse and your pillow is red. Your family hates you, your friends let you bleed. Sleep tight with a knife cos that's all you'll need. Rockabye, baby, broken and scarred. You didn't know life would be this hard. Time to end the pain that you hid so well. So down you go, baby, straight back to Hell."

The Cutter's Lullaby, I thought. I've heard that before. I used to whisper it to myself when I was 14. I didn't want K to know I knew she was awake, so a quietly crawled next to her with my back against her as I contemplated my plan.

Kalei's POV

I sprung up from bed and looked at the clock. My body always seemed to instantly sense when it was time to wake up, so I didn't need an alarm on my clock, but I always saw sparkling stars in my vision as my head attempted to keep up with my body. I looked over at Jaden, who laid there eyes wide open. She looked at me, but kept her expression neutral. Her face at that moment reminded me of a Five Nights at Freddy's animatronic or something.

"You okay there?" I asked, poking her cheek as if I was testing to see if she was alive.

"Uh-huh," she barely mumbled. I rolled my eyes and laid down next to her.

"Jaden," I whispered.

"Yeh," she whispered back. It seemed as if she was looking right through me, as if I wasn't even there.

"WAKE. UP!" I yelled. She rolled off the bed, covering her ears.

"Okay, okay, I'm up!" She stood up from the ground, holding her head like if she didn't, it would fall off. "Bulgabulgabulgableh." She shook her head to fully wake herself up. "Okay, ready." Jaden mumbled.

"You're still half asleep, aren't you?" I laughed and rolled my eyes. "Come awn, you're gonna meet everyone today! Well, you've already met the guys-"

"5sos..." She corrected.

"Yes, you've already met 5sos-"

"Wait, that was real? It-it wasn't a dream? With the, the, the squirt gun, and hanging at the house?!"

"Yeah, it was all real. But looking at Luke, you were sure locked in a dream," I smirked.

"Well, duh! It's Luke Hemmings!" She stared at me wide-eyed.

"Well, you're awake now. That's good. Come on, we have to get ready for schoooooooolll."

"Ew, school," Jaden shuddered.

"Hey, 'ew' is my thing," I wagged a finger at her.

"Nope," she said, popping the "p", "I'm here now. I run Australia." She smiled at me.

"You didn't even know what a dill was," I rolled my eyes and smiled.

"WHATEVER!" She laughed and threw a pillow at me. I caught it.

"Tisk, tisk, Jaden. Don't you remember who was the reigning champion of sleepover pillow fights in Washington?" I asked, bluffing.

"You wouldn't," Jaden smiled at me but kept her eyes in little blue slits.

"Nah, not now at least," I say, putting the pillow down back on my bed. I heard her sigh of relief and I stifled a snicker. "But c'mon, we do have to get ready."

We turned away from each other as Jaden left my room and went into the bathroom. I turned to my closet and stared at it. I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAARRR!!!! I screamed to myself in my mind at my overflowing wardrobe. I looked through my closet and, after about 10 minutes, decided on my favorite One Direction T-Shirt. I grabbed it and pulled it over a navy blue tank top. After I straightened it out and it looked good in the mirror, I went to my drawer and pulled out my favorite ripped skinny jeans. Walking back to my mirror, I positioned my clothes perfectly before applying my makeup. I swiped on my favorite signature lip gloss and applied a bit of mascara after curling my lashes to a perfect length. Grabbing my contact case, I pulled out my left contact and placed it in my eye. Repeating with my right contact, it wouldn't go in. I squirted some solution in it and placed it in my eye. A drop of solution that looked like a tear fell off my face and I wiped it with my sleeve. After blinking back and wiping the solution away, I grabbed my hairbrush and stroked through my wavy brown hair. I grabbed a few strands of my blond highlights and braided them together. When I was happy with my look, I went downstairs and grabbed my backpack. I grabbed a granola bar from the cupboard and started eating it as I waited for Jaden to come out of the bathroom.
