Not For Me

Kalei has just moved from Washington to Australia to get away from her problems. She thinks she'll never make any friends, and no one will like her. But on her first day of school, someone's major crushing. But what will happen when she's got her eye on his best friend?

59. K,Kaleilei, Kal, or Lei?

Kalei's POV

This was amazing, but should I fully let my guard down? As far as it has gone, we're going in circles again and again(see that 5sos reference).

"I'm sorry for all this crap I've put you through," Jaden said through sobs. I pulled away.

"It's okay, I shouldn't have been so hard on you. I'm used to this type of thing, but this is your first time," I forced a smile through my tears. "The boys!"

I turned around to see the guys all huddled up on a corner. When they saw me turn around, they whipped in a 360 and fell on each other. I giggled.  "You were eavesdropping, weren't you? It's okay, I was gonna tell you guys everything later." I checked my phone. "Okay, I have been stalling for a while now, but we really gotta go. Bye guys," I walked into a group hug with Luke, Ashton, Calum, and... Not Michael. He was still glaring at Jaden. I walked up to him and put my hands on his shoulders reassuringly. "Mikey, it's okay now. She's my friend again. No need to worry. See you tomorrow," I stood on my toes and gave Michael a peck on the cheek.

"Right," he grunted. He kept his arms crossed, but softened his expression when I kissed him.

"Okay, Jaden, say bye to the guys and let's go! Oh, wait. Luke, could you drive us?" I said, halfway out the door. Luke's bright blue eyes lit up.

"Yeah, of course!" He beamed.

"Wait. Why not me? Your boyyyfriendd?" Michael pouted.

"I think you need to cool down about Jaden," I whispered to him.

"Fine," he groaned. "Don't get any ideas, Hemmings. She's mine," Michael bumped into Luke's shoulder as he went upstairs to his room.

"Sorry, Luke, Jaden. He doesn't exactly trust you yet. He will soon. I'll make sure. But as of right now, let's go." I pulled open the door and walked out. Luke and Jaden followed, Luke with his keys in hand.

I got in shotgun after Jaden hopped into the backseat. Luke slid into the drivers' seat effortlessly. I decided to make a comment. "Is that how you slide into the arms of the ladies?" I smirked. He responded with an eye roll and a chuckle.

"No, it would be but it didn't work on you so," he shrugged. He started the car and we were off.

"Sorry," I looked out the window.

"No, I-I meant it as a joke, you know? I didn't mean it like tha-"

"Yeah, I know. But I still feel bad."

"Don't. Michael deserves you. He's been the nicest to you. All I've been doing is getting in the way. You were right about me being shallow."

"No, don't say that! I didn't mean anything I said in the lunchroom! I was just mad at Bella." I whipped my head to turn to Luke. "Speaking of, where is that little motherfrito?"

"I don't know, no one's seen her since you yelled at her and she humiliated you."

"Woah, woah, woah, someone humiliated you? That's not cool, only I get to do that," Jaden chimed in, pushing herself forward in her seatbelt to look at me.

"Not anymore," I reminded her in a singsong voice.

"Right. So what happened?"

"Well, it's kinda like our backstory." I pointed between Jaden and I. "She was my best friend for a while, then one day she just decided 'oh hey let's ruin K's life and make her lose all of her friends' I guess."

"Oh, that sounds like me," she jerked her head up when she realized what she just said. "Th-the old me, of course, because I would never do that to you agai-"

"I know, I know," I giggled.

"Wait, your friends call you 'K'? That's weird."

"Jaden..." I warned.

"Wait, wait," Luke said as he slowed the car down at a stoplight. "What do you call her?" He asked, sounding a bit offended.

"Her friends and I back in WASHINGTON where she BELONGS call her Kaleilei (pronounced Kuh-lay-lay). Sometimes I'd catch her off guard by calling her Lei or Kal," Jaden said proudly.

"Why don't you let us call you that stuff, Kaleilei?" Luke said, now talking to me.

"I don't like it," I admitted, "it reminds me too much of my life in Washington." I shrugged off my lame answer.

"Theonlystatethatyoubelong," Jaden coughed. I just ignored it.

"Eh." I look out the window and huff. Realizing that it's getting harder to breathe, I roll down the window and stick my head out. My hair flew back as if it were in a blizzard.

"Okay, K," Luke giggled at his own pun.

"That was stupid," I laughed.

"You're stupid," he pushed my shoulder as he drove.

"You're stupider," my voice just went into a new octave as I laughed.

"You're stupiderer!"

"You're stupidererer!"

"Only a really stupid person would add that many 'er's," Luke laughed and stuck out his tongue.

"Wow. I need to build myself back up, I just got burned by Luke Hemmings," I shook my head slowly. Luke turned a corner and we pulled to a stop at my house.

"Haha, very funny. Now get out of my car, Stupid."

"Okay, bye Luke, thanks," I pulled him into a hug and walked up to my house.

"Bye! Bye, Jaden! Oh, and sorry about squirting you and all that today."

"Are you kidding?! I got squirted in the face with water by my idol, reunited with my best friend, and stayed in the same house as my favorite band for like 2 hours! This is the best day of my life! Thanks....L-Luke," Jaden hugged him and blushed. "Bye."

We walked into my house and ran upstairs after Luke pulled out of my driveway. As soon as I got to my room, I flopped onto my bed, Jaden landing right next to me. I looked at her and smiled. She returned it. I released a breath I didn't know I was holding. As if on cue, Jaden looked down my bed.

"So, Lei, you seem to have been having a great life here," she said. She sounded sad.

"Yeah, it's ripper," I laugh to myself.

"Ripper'?" Jaden looked at me in utter confusion.

"I wanted to fit in, so I looked up some Aussie terms. Apparently 'ripper' means, like, great or awesome or something like that. My favorite Aussie term is 'dill'."

"PICKLE!" Jaden sat up and laughed.

"No, it means 'idiot'."

"You seem to be having more fun here than you ever did in America..."

"I've missed you more than I let on, Jade. But then I remember things," I sat up too.

"Now that I've changed," she turned to me and beamed, "what would you think if I moved here with you?" Her question caught me off guard.

"W-what? Move here? I don't know, Jaden-"

"Oh, come on! It'll be great! We can be best friends again, and Michael will learn to trust me faster!"

"I don't know, Jaden. I don't think it's a good idea- wait, did you say best friends?"

"Yeah, besties, just like back in America!" A look of worry flushed over my face. "Lei? What's wrong?"

I sat up and grabbed my phone. I went to my contacts and it started to ring. I heard her pick up on the other line.

"Skylar, I'm sorry!" I screamed through the phone.
