77. A Fragile Doll

Kalei's POV

I told the boys I would meet them outside the school in a few minutes, so I need to hurry.

I walked into the office and asked for Bella's name and which class she's in right now. The office lady gave me a hall pass with Bella's current teacher and I thanked her and walked out. I walked up some stairs, turned a few corners, wrote "Blink" over locker 182 with a Sharpie I found, and made it to Bella's classroom. Bella instantly saw me and asked to be excused. She thinks she knows what's gonna happen next.

Bella's teacher excused her and she walked out, shutting the class door behind her.

"What is it?" Bella crossed her arms. "I have some very important learning to get back to." She added a sarcastic nod just to irritate me more.

Don't show that she gets to you~

Without saying anything, I grabbed her hand and dragged her outside the main building.

"Are we going on an adventure? Bella and Kalei, explorers of down under~" Bella continued her sarcasm.

I turned around to face Bella and immediately glared into her lying amber eyes. She noticed and smiled at me innocently. Her smile was gentle, bus her wildfire eyes showed she was angry. Angry...for what?

"So, bestie, whatcha doin'? Shouldn't you be in Spanish by now?" She kept that smile of hers plastered on her face. I dove straight in and grabbed the collar of her shirt and pulled her close.

"Alright, listen here you no-good, lying, backstabbing she-devil~ I'm not scared of you. I've gone through hell and back to stay with Michael and our friends and I'm not letting you ruin what's probably gonna be the best day of my life tonight. Stay away from Michael, stay away from my friends, stay away from me."

Bella gave one last flash of her innocent smile before she grabbed a chunk of my hair and yanked it toward her. "No, you listen. I've lived here for years trying to get one of those boys' attention and you come for one day and the lead singer calls you beautiful. Finally I have their attention and whether it be for good or bad I will keep that attention. I'm not letting some American come to my territory and squash everything I've worked up to."

I grinned. "So you're jealous of me, bestie?"

I swear I heard Bella growl. I'm getting to her. "No~ jealous of a peasant like you? Please~ don't flatter yourself. I just wanna ruin your life, is all~ kinda like Jay~"

"She doesn't like being called that. And for your information, she has turned a new leaf. Oh-" I give a cocky chuckle, "and I'm not a 'peasant'. Just because this isn't my place doesn't mean I'm as vulnerable as I look."

Bella pushed off me and released my hair. She laughed a hearty and cocky laugh. "Oh sweetie! I'm not picking you for your vulnerability~ you're stronger than most others..." she swept her hair to one side and out a hand on her hip. "I play rough with my puppets~ I need a durable one that won't break easily~ after all, who wants a fragile doll?" And with that she turned on her heel and walked back inside, leaving me,

Her doll,

Her puppet,

Out in the cold.
