English Transformation Drafts

This is just a collection of my drafts through the following month or so. These are the drafts that will lead up to my final transformation from my base text The Werewolf by Angela Carter. It involves witches, werewolves, and curses. I will include the plan as well.


2. Section One - Draft 1

People are different here than others of the North, warmer.
No beasts linger in the woods,
Trying to catch an old drunkard as he stumbled his way past.
No sinister shadows,
Cast against the wooden logs of their houses,
From the children laughing and smiling round the hot glowing fires.
No, everyone is exhilarated with joy,
Happy with their way of life.


The devil may be real, but not in the flesh.
He is only an evil apparition,
Appeared to those who have sinned.
Therefore the good people have no fear.
The worst beasts the town know of,
Are only the few lone wolves,
Living out their last days in the forest alone,
Like the bones of the dead buried in their separate graves.


The townspeople believe in witches however,
Since the Witch-Hunter of the Citadel came to town.
He found three of them, only yesterday,
Three innocent women accused of the most heinous of sins.
All they had done was be better than their neighbours,
One had a black cat too, one that followed her everywhere.


Three women were put to death yesterday,
Burned at the stake, bound against burning wood as their skin melted clean off.
Their children-less houses burnt to the ground later,
Though no man went pilfering through the wreckages,
No man wanted to touch that which was tainted by sin.
Only the Witch-Hunter touched the bones of the accused.



The burning of the women who did nothing to deserve it was only the beginning.
The jewel of the village, the shimmering jewel,
