Out in South Park

Rosalynn is not your average teenager. She loves to draw, skateboard, hang with the guys, and is quite innocent. Her dad's job requires her family to move quite often, so when he lets them know the day after school ends for the summer that they have to move. No one is really surprised. They pack up and head out of California to a small little town in Colorado called South Park. Rosalynn has no trouble getting friends, but what happens when she falls for one? Why does she feel so close to everyone right off the bat? Why is South Park such a weird town?
(The cover art I did not draw. It's from Deviant Art by the user kamaniki. I also do not own any of the South Park characters and landmarks that I will use, obviously. That credit goes to Trey and Matt.)

*A Few Hours Later*

“I wanted to walk you home,” I pout as Kenny and I stand at my front door.

“I am a gentlemen, I was not letting you walk home alone,” Kenny smiles.

“Thank you then, kind gentleman,” I smile. “Oh, I liked seeing you without your hood today.”

“I kept forgetting to put it up, and once a lot of people see me without it up, it’s kind of odd to put it up while around them.”

“Yeah, I guess that’s true.”

“I’ve finally become comfortable enough for people to see my face, so I guess that’s good. All though elementary and middle school I tried to show my face as little as possible. I didn’t think people liked how I looked. Got to the point to where I just didn’t give a fuck.”

“Well, I think you’re cute. So, wait, you used to wear your hood up all the time?”

“Uh, yeah, I did. Wait, you think I’m cute?”

“Um, yeah,” I giggle. “I said you were attractive earlier today.”

“Oh yeah, you did.”

“I thought you listened to me,” I lightly shove his shoulder.

He laughs, “I do. I guess it was just too shocking for me.”

“Aw, you don’t believe me?” I pout.

“It’s not that, it’s just, well, look at you.”

“I am just an average, badass girl hanging with a really cute boy.”

“Can I kiss your cheek?”

I nod, “Yes you can.”

Kenny leans in and gives a little kiss to my cheek. “I’ll be off then.”

“See you tomorrow then, Kenneth.”

“Oh god, it sounds even better coming from your lips.”

I roll my eyes and give him a shove, “That’s gross and perverted.”

He shrugs, “Can’t change that about me.”

“Um, tomorrow, bring Karen. I’ll bring my sister, Ashlyn. I want to show her that South Park isn’t that bad.”

“Okay, I’ll do that,” he smiles.

“Good. Do I have to pick you guys up?”

“I can drive us to the mall in my truck, so yeah, come to my house tomorrow morning.”

“Sounds good. I’ll see you tomorrow.”

He brings me into a quick hug before walking off.

I quickly enter my house and run upstairs, heading straight to Ashlyn’s room. “Ash,” I take a deep breath.

“What?” Ashlyn sighs and looks up at me.

“We are going to the mall tomorrow with some of my new friends.”

“Really?” Her face lights up for a quick second before going back to her normal, she doesn’t care, look.

“Yup,” I smirk. “It’s gonna be fun.”

“Um, all right then. I’ll come. My friends aren’t coming until next week, so this will be fine.”

“It’ll be great. It’s going to be so much fun.”

“Sure, sure,” she rolls her eyes, but I can see a slight smile on her face. “Now get out of my room.”

“Fine,” I giggle and exit her room.

Tomorrow it going to be great. For everyone.

*The Next Morning*

“Good morning beautiful,” Kenny’s voice fills my ears.

“Kenny, damn it,” I groans and adjust my phone as I sit up. “Why didn’t you just text me?”

“That’s so boring and cliché. I wanted to hear your morning voice to.”

“It’s nothing special, and yours is just deeper.”

“I like yours. It’s very cute.”

“I like yours too. Now hang up so I can get ready.”

“Fine, bye Rosa,” Kenny makes kissy noises.

“Shut up with that, you dork,” I roll my eyes.

“You know you want a real kiss form me.”

“Shut up and let it go for now, Kenny.”

“All right. I will.”

“Good. Goodbye Kenny.”

“See you soon.”

The line goes dead and I place my phone down on my bed. Then I head to my closet to pick out today’s outfit.

I decide on a Marvel’s t-shirt, tan shorts, and grey high-tops. I also grab a pair of underwear and a bra.

After about twenty minutes, I’m changed and ready for the day. I head to my sisters room, and she’s almost ready.

“How much money are you bringing?” Ashlyn asks as she slowly puts mascara on.

“I have a debit card, remember,” I answer.

“Oh yeah,” she finishes up her makeup, grabs her small purse, and turns to me. “Lead the way.”

We head down the stairs and out of the house. Our parents already gone for the day. Their first days of work on a beautiful Friday.

“So, other girls will be there?” Ashlyn asks as we start heading for Kenny’s house.

“That’s correct,” I smile. “You can make new friends with them.”

“Yeah, whatever.”

“Cheer up, it’ll be fun.”

We walk the rest of the way to Kenny’s in silence. I really hope that Ashlyn will learn to cheer up by the time we get to the mall.

Kenny and Karen are waiting outside by a nice red truck. Both of their faces light up with they spot us.

“Rosa, looking beautiful,” Kenny brings me into a hug when I reach him. “Can I kiss your cheek?” He whispers to me.

“Go ahead,” I grin.

He gives me a kind of long kiss on the cheek before pulling away, “Ready to go?”

“So ready,” I step away from him and look over at Karen and Ashlyn.

They are chatting with smiles on their faces; sounds like their talking about some new boy band or some boys.

“Karen, Ashlyn,” Kenny says. “Hop in the truck. We have to get to the mall.”

“Okay, Ken Ken,” Karen smiles. Then she and Ashlyn get into the back seats.

“Yes, my sister is actually having fun,” I chuckle.

Kenny smiles and leans in close to me, “May I kiss your cute little nose?”

I ruffle his hair, “Go for it, ya dork.”

He quickly pecks my nose, “Into the truck now.”

I walk around the truck and hop into the passenger side.

Kenny starts up the truck, backs out of the driveway, and then we are on our way to the mall.

“So, Kenny,” Ashlyn says in quite a teasing manner.

“Rosalynn,” Karen says in the same teasing manner.

“Are you two dating?” They ask in unison and then break into giggles.

“That’s not it,” I sputter out.

“Rosa and I are just friends,” Kenny reaches over and grabs my hand. “For now.”

“We are so going to be sister-in-laws one day,” Ashlyn says.

“That would be awesome,” Karen giggles some more.

“Ashlyn, have you made a new friend?” I glance back at the girls.

“Maybe,” Ashlyn answers.

“Hm, South Park isn’t so bad, is it?”

“Just because I gained one friend doesn’t mean I will don’t hate it here.”

“South Park isn’t that bad,” Karen speaks up. “There’s lots to do. I never get bored. And, the girls are super nice. Unless Cartman pisses them off.”

I laugh, “I can see that happening a lot.”

“I’m still having my friends fly in, Rosa,” Ashlyn says.

“Fine, try to bring your old life back,” I roll my eyes.

Kenny starts rubbing my hand with his thumb, “It’ll be okay. So girls, what are you going to get at the mall?”

“Probably some new CDs,” Karen answers.

“And some new clothes,” Ashlyn answers.

I smile and look back at the girls through the rearview mirror, taking in how they look.

Karen is wearing a red collared, light green, button-up jacket with a white shirt underneath; jean shorts; cute pink slip on shoes. She even has her bands held to the right with a Hello Kitty hair clip.

Ashlyn has naturally curly blonde hair like me, but she doesn’t want to ever look like me, so her hair is straight and has red and brown dyed into it. She loves that her eyes are green, and she’s a few inches shorter than me. Her outfit for today is short jean shorts, a kind of tight t-shirt, and fancy sandals.

I look away from them and turn my gaze to Kenny. “So, is there like, a cosplay store to get our stuff?”

“There is. I can’t believe we are bringing back the game,” Kenny smiles and gives my hand a small squeeze. “Thanks for that.”

“You guys were just having too much fun playing that board game, I knew that the way you used to play it, I just knew you guys missed it. Some things you just don’t grow out of.”

“I guess.”

Karen and Ashlyn are the only voices from then on that fill the truck. Besides the hum from the truck’s engine.
