Out in South Park

Rosalynn is not your average teenager. She loves to draw, skateboard, hang with the guys, and is quite innocent. Her dad's job requires her family to move quite often, so when he lets them know the day after school ends for the summer that they have to move. No one is really surprised. They pack up and head out of California to a small little town in Colorado called South Park. Rosalynn has no trouble getting friends, but what happens when she falls for one? Why does she feel so close to everyone right off the bat? Why is South Park such a weird town?
(The cover art I did not draw. It's from Deviant Art by the user kamaniki. I also do not own any of the South Park characters and landmarks that I will use, obviously. That credit goes to Trey and Matt.)

24. Rosa's Birthday

“Um, hi,” I wave at my parents.

“Who was that boy you were locking lips with?” my dad crosses his arms over his chest.

“Arin!” my mother slaps his upper arm.

“Oh, that’s Kenny,” I feel my cheeks heating up. “You’ve never met him because of work. But, he’s my best friend.”

“Wait, Kenny McCormick?”

“Obviously Suzy,” my dad has a very stern look on his face.

“Yes, Kenny McCormick. What of it?” I question.

“Nothing,” my mom smiles. “It’s just, his home life, you know.”

“Poor? Shitty? Not like ours? And so?”

“We just want the best for you, and kids follow in their parents’ footsteps.

“Suzy, I could give two shits that he comes from a poor family, and people can change,” my dad rolls his eyes. “He was just making out with my daughter on the front porch, and I’ve yet to meet him. And their just friends.”

“I can have a best friend by my boyfriend,” I start defending myself. “And we weren’t making out. It was just a kiss, a simple kiss. Also, you’re always working. That’s why you have yet to meet him.”

“This Saturday then. He’s coming over for dinner.”

“Fine. I’ll let him know. Just dinner here, I’m assuming.”

“Sure. That sounds good.”

“Well, if you’ll let me. I’m gonna go to my room and call Kenny. Let him know about Saturday.”

“Go ahead,” my mom moves out of my way.

I rush pass them, climbing the steps as fast as I can, and slam my bedroom door shut when I make it in. Fucking parents.

*The Next Morning*

“All right, just start on the reading, and be ready to write tomorrow,” Mr. Garrison sighs. “Any questions?”

“How come this is so easy?” I whisper to Kenny.

“Don’t question it, Garrison can make it way harder if he hears we think this is easy,” Kenny whispers back.

“Oh, fair enough.”

Kenny reaches over to my desk and grabs my hand, “After school, we are going straight to my house. Is that okay?”

“That’s fine.”

“And, I found you a gift.”

“Kenny, I said no.”

“And I didn’t listen. Don’t worry about it. I’ve had it for years, and I think it was meant for you.”

“Oh, well then. I can’t wait to receive it. But next time, listen to my orders.”

*Some Hours Later*

“Happy birthday, Rosa!” the girls exclaim as I sit down at the lunch table.

I smile, “Aw, thanks everyone. How’d you know?”

“Kenny told Stan who told me,” Wendy pushes me a small bag. “Just some cool felt tip pens I saw when I was shopping last night.”

“Oh, thank you. You really didn’t have to.”

“We were informed too late,” Krystal takes a sip of her milk. “Or else you’d have way more presents.”

“I don’t need anything, really,” I open my milk. “Just being with friends is all I need.”

“That’s not how we roll,” Wendy giggles. “You’ll get nice presents when Christmas comes around. Just us to you.”

“We have to treat the newbie right,” Bebe smiles.

“Well, I’ll be getting you all something,” I open my lunchbox. “I have to treat my new friends right.”

*Some More Hours Later*

“Just wait here,” Kenny gives me a quick kiss before rushing upstairs to his room and leaving me in the living room.

“Oh, um, okay,” I mumble.

With nothing else to do, I take a look around. It’s quite run down, as it is on the outside. There’s a lot of pictures of the McCormick siblings to take up space. It’s cute to see them when they were younger.

“Who the fuck are you?” a gruff voice pulls me away from a picture of Karen from years ago.

My eyes scan over the man I’m assuming is Kenny’s father. He has an old baseball cap on, a faded and oil stained jean jacket over a white shirt, and ripped up blue jeans. His baseball cap has the word ‘SCOTCH’ embroidered in the middle. The beer in his hand is not shocking to me.

“Um, hi, Mr. McCormick,” I give a small wave. “I’m Rosalynn, Kenny’s girlfriend.”

The man snickers, “How much did he pay you to say that?”

I take a step back; quite shocked at his statement. “Nothing, he didn’t pay me. Has he?”

“I wouldn’t be surprised if he had,” he takes a sip of his beer and takes a few steps toward me. “What are you doing here? Is Kenny taking you somewhere to ravish you?”

“Kenny is just taking me out for my birthday. To the diner or Stark’s Pond.”

“Sure, he told you to say that. Didn’t he? You whore.”

I take another step back as his words are like a slap to the face. A tear rolls down my cheek. “Don’t you have a job to go to?”

“You little b-”

“Dad!” Kenny shouts before his father can call me a terrible name. “Fuck off. Leave Rosa alone.”

“You little shithead,” Mr. McCormick growls at his son. “Fine, go and take her some place and fuck her brains out.” He starts laughing.

I turn and walk over to Kenny; tears becoming harder to hold back. “Can we go?” I whisper.

Kenny grabs my hand, “You’re an asshole, dad.”

Mr. McCormick yells obscene things at us as we exit the house.

Kenny hands me a small box as I buckle up in his truck. “I’m so sorry about that Princess,” he grips the car door with one hand. His shoes nervously rubbing the concrete.

I open my mouth to calm Kenny, but I just end up bursting into tears. Hurt by his father’s words.

“Oh, Princess,” Kenny brings me into him. “I’m so sorry. I didn’t know he was home. I am so, so, so sorry. Next time I’ll check to see if he’s home.”

“His words,” I choke out.

“I know. You are nothing that he yelled at you. You are a princess, innocent, pure, and beautiful. And I love you so very much.” He pulls me away from his chest, taking one hand to cup my face. “Sorry this shit happened on your birthday.” He leans in and connects our lips.

In that instant, the tears stop and my face heats up in a blush.

Kenny pulls away, his eyes scanning my face. “You okay, Rosa?”

“I love you,” I slightly smile.

He smiles back, “Did that kiss cheer you up?”

“A whole lot. Can we start our date now?”

“With pleasure,” he backs away, and closes the door. Then he rushes to the driver side, sliding in, and starts up his truck. “Is Chinese food good with you?”

“It’s perfect,” I look over at him.

“Open your gift,” he instructs as soon as he’s backed out of the driveway and we’re on our way.

“Oh,” I look down at the small box in my lap. “It’s so cute.” I untie the ribbon on top of it, and life the top off. Sitting inside is a necklace with a Minnie Mouse emblem. “Kenny, this is so cute.”

“I bought is years ago, for someone else, but never gave it to her. I thought you’d love it. And I have a matching Mickey one on right now.”

“You are too cute, Kenneth.”

“Anything to make you smile.”

*Hours Later*

“Ah, the stars,” I rest my head on Kenny’s shoulder.

“They are beautiful,” Kenny puts his arm around my waist and pulls me closer.

It’s been great spending my birthday with Kenny. The necklace, dinner with hi, and now hanging out at Stark’s Pond.

“Like me?” I smirk.

“Just like you.”

“We should go home soon,” I yawn.

“Just a few more minutes, please.”

I close my eyes, “Hm, okay. Only because it is you.”

“I love you Princess.”

I smile, “You really showed it today. I love you too, Kenneth.”
