New Dawn

Emma and Melanie have returned from Narnia, but they aren't the same person they were. Things have changed them, and they won't be the same, and how will they face the real world knowing that they will never see Patten and Holter again.

This is the second book in the New Series the last book was New Kingdom, so if you haven't read that book, you should start there. This is a Narnian Fanfiction - thank you.

29. Wish I Could Help

"So what are we going to do?" I asked Melanie as we watched Patten, Romnly, and Jura race off into the distance.

"We are going to wait here. I know it's boring, but it is the right thing to do at the moment." she answered, running a hand through her brown hair and gave me a smug smile.

"I hope Emma and Maulduen are alright, I couldn't bare the thought of Emma injured, even though I know it happened." I said trying to wrap my head around how they even got a hold on Emma - or Maulduen, man that dragon was humongous!

"Oh, her injuries will be nothing in the long run, she's been through a lot. She can handle anything." Holter said joining our small conversation, standing close to Melanie, but not close enough to touch her. It confused me that they weren't holding hands or something, after seeing them in the real world they were holding hands and laughing, now though, Melanie looked confused with him around, and Holter looked pained.

"I just don't understand why anyone would want to do that to her." Melanie added, her eyebrows furrowing together.

"People here are weird, I've learned that in the short while I've been here." I said crossing my arms over my chest. "I mean, I was stolen by pirates for heavens sake!" Holter smirked a little bit but said nothing.

"But you met someone out of it, or that is what I've heard. I don't think Emma is getting anything out of being tortured almost to death." Melanie said adjusting her stance.

"I guess, but I will probably never see Hutch again..."

"Sorry I even brought him up." Melanie said softly.

"It's fine." I said smiling, Holter laughed a bit. "What?" I asked, play punching him in the arm.

"Nothing, only that this has been a crazy few months, all of us almost died out of it. I would battle evil elf kings over this anytime." He said as Julionna clawed herself up behind him. I smiled up at her, she blinked one sapphire red eye in response.

"I wish I had a dragon! You four look so carefree when you are around them." I said reaching up to rub Julionna's nose and jaw, running a hand over her purly white teeth that hung over the side of her jaw. I sighed when no one answered and tried to think of something to do. "Should we prepare things for when Emma and Patten get back? And Jura and Maulduen?" I looked back at Melanie and Holter, who both had blank expressions on their faces.

"I don't think there really is anything we can do for Emma or Maulduen while they aren't here. All we can do is wait." said Holter as he leaned up against Julionna's side. I sighed again and nodded walking over to the cabin. Brooke was sitting there, braiding her long silvery white hair.

"You look worried." she said, and I nodded, sitting next to her.

"That I am. I don't like when I can't to do something to help."

"I don't think anyone does. Do you think I didn't want to help my husband fight against the Dragons when they first came? They killed him, leaving me with a son, and there was nothing I could do about it." Brooke said tying her hair off and looking at me straight on.

"Where is your son?" I asked intrigued, and Brooke smiled, patting down her skirt.

"Oh he has a house of his own on the coast. He even wrote in his letters he met a girl. I havn't seen him for so long. I always loved his visists but he doesn't come anymore."

"Why not?" I asked.

"Because of this damned war. Traveling is dangerous for everyone not just the wanted kings, queens, and compnay." she said a little more sternly than need be. I nodded and let the conversation drop into a uncomfortable silence. "I am sorry Tomi, it's just that, since you guys have returned I haven't had the chance to go visit him again. He was supposed to move back in with me two months ago, but with you all here, I can't put him in that kind of danger."

"Yes, danger. Just look at your group!" she gestured toward Holter, Melanie, and Julionna. "Melanie can't remember a single thing from the last time she was here, Holter is a hot head - as well as that dragon of his. Patten is alright, he is more laid back, Jura is respectful, Maulduen is humongous! Romnly is a youngling who gets into anything and everything. And then there is Emma, High Queen Emma the Beautiful; no one, I think, is more dangerous than she is. The other three come close, real close, but they will not match her." Brooke paused, looked back at me then continued, "When I first met her, she freed me from the retched man that was going to whip me. He ended up whipping her, scarred up her entire body, and she still fought that stinking war for me and for all the others in Narnia."

"Wow, she told me she rescued a fawn and then got whipped, but I never knew that fawn was you!" I said in awe, Brooke laughed.

"It was me, a lot younger me, but still. I remember every detail like it was yesterday, and then there she goes and gets herself into more trouble than the rest of us combined!" she laughed again and leaned back against her chair. "I wouldn't be surprised if she comes back with a whole bunch of scars covering her body! But that's the thing, she will do anything for the people she loves; for the land she loves." I smiled, and the conversation transitioned into something more light hearted as Melanie, Holter, and Julionna joined in.
