New Dawn

Emma and Melanie have returned from Narnia, but they aren't the same person they were. Things have changed them, and they won't be the same, and how will they face the real world knowing that they will never see Patten and Holter again.

This is the second book in the New Series the last book was New Kingdom, so if you haven't read that book, you should start there. This is a Narnian Fanfiction - thank you.

15. The Mark

"Wake up sleepy head!" Brooke yelled shaking me awake.

"I'm up!" I yelled back sitting up. The sun was almost at its highest point in the sky.

"Man your a sound sleeper, I've been trying to get you up for almost an hour. Jura went hunting a while ago, and you need a bath." I yawned, stretching. "There is a spring behind that cluster of trees that you can take it in." I nodded standing in a swift, almost graceful, movement.

"Do you have a towel or something?" I asked, Brooke shook her head.

"No I don't, we left from the dungeon to quickly for me to grab luxuries." She said sarcastically, I nodded and walked behind the trees, took off my clothes, and got into the warm water in a haze, still half asleep. The water helped wake me up, and I scrubbed the grime from my body. I almost was done washing when I saw it. A small scar like snowflake covered my left collarbone.

"Brooke?" I asked.

"Yes?" She answered peeking her head from behind a tree.

"Is there a story behind this scar?"

"I didn't know you had a scar like that. It's a beautiful snowflake."I looked up at her, she was confused. "You didn't have it earlier, so I don't know." I tried scrubbing it off, which only made my skin red with the effort.  Every intricate detail of the snowflake was there, but it was a scar. I walked out of the spring and got dressed, still puzzled by the mark. "Do we have food?" I asked straightening me dress.

"Jura went hunting a while ago. She should be back soon." I sat on the ground with me legs stretched out. Brooke sat in front of me and took my hands into hers. "Well isn't that something!" She exclaimed, her eyes went wide with wonder. With one hand she touched my left collarbone

"What do you think its for?" I asked.

"Its a dragon mark." Jura said landing behind me with a large buck in her claws.

"A dragon what?"

"A dragon mark. It marks that I am your protector that we are bonded. The snow flake is my mark." Jura crouched down and came close enough to me for me to see the same snow flake etched into her scales near her neck. "You may have realized that you can see better, hear better - all your senses are better than what they were before, as is your strength. I am your protector and no other dragon can claim you." She explained.

"Okay?" I said slowly. The realization of what she said hit me. My protector, what is she protecting me from. She blinked her beautiful large eyes as if it were obvious.

We cooked the buck over a fire that Jura made and ate it. It was good, Jura ate her share of it raw - disgusting.

"So what do you get out being my protector?" I asked between bites.

"Well, now I get to unlock my secret abilities." Jura turned her head away and opened her mouth. Smoke crept out between her teeth. She breathed heavily on the grass. Once the air touched the grass it became frozen solid. Jura snapped her jaws shut. "It's a work in progress."

"That's amazing. Is that why the mark is a snow flake." Jura nodded as she took another bite of the deer. I looked down at the snowflake mark and admired it. It was very pretty and it glowed white like snow like Jura's scales. She slid her snake like head near me.

"/Grab on\." She thought. I gripped onto one of the three spikes that poked out of the back of her head and pointed to her back. I climbed on. It was hard to stand because her sleek scales were slippery. "Sit down and hold on."

"Wait what are you going to...ahhh..." As I sat between two spikes on Jura's back she flapped her wings and took off into the air." "Wait! Wait! I'm terrified of heights!" My screams were not enough stop Jura from rising above the clouds. I covered my eyes and focused on Jura's scales. I started breathing heavy.

"Calm yourself, Melanie. You're hyperventilating. Just look at that view." I forced myself to look up. A bright beautiful sun was setting over huge mountains before me. Jura was gliding along a wind current.

"Okay it's pretty but please take me back down." I hugged onto her back as she slowly descended back down.

I could here Brooke laughing, "How was your ride, your majesty." I grunted at her and slipped off of Jura. My legs felt like Jelly. I had a headache for the rest of the night .

My dreams were filled with a war. Humans and elves were fighting each other. I stood right in the middle of the fighting with a bow in hand. "Remember." I looked around the rushing people. A giant lion stood proud upon a rock above me. He jumped down swiftly, and majestically and leaped in front of me. A wave of relaxation and relief rushed over me.

"Aslan!" I smiled and wrapped my arms around him. He smiled.

"Come with me." He crouched down for me to climb on his back. The trip was short as they always are I dreams but this one wasn't just a dream. He showed me a river, that I could faintly remember swimming in. Downriver was a small wooden cabin. The door swung open and Aslan walked in. As I went through the doorway a sharp pain darted through my body. I fell off of Aslan's back and held my head in my hands. I opened my mouth to scream but no sound came out.

Suddenly I was back in the middle of the battle field but this time every eye was on me. Suddenly the pain grew in my shoulder where I found an arrow to sticking out. I could hear a familiar laugh of a man and to hear it made the sharp pain begin in my ears and work it's way down. I screamed myself awake and found the pain to still be in my head. Whatever was in the cabin it hurts to remember it.

I couldn't fall back asleep that night even though I tried. Jura kept a close on me too, she knew I was just pretending. Emma definitely isn't playing a joke on me.
