New Dawn

Emma and Melanie have returned from Narnia, but they aren't the same person they were. Things have changed them, and they won't be the same, and how will they face the real world knowing that they will never see Patten and Holter again.

This is the second book in the New Series the last book was New Kingdom, so if you haven't read that book, you should start there. This is a Narnian Fanfiction - thank you.

2. Dreaming

I watched as Emma walked out the door. She had a gloomy look on her face. She turned at waved at me I waved back as she got into Tomi's truck . I ran downstairs and grabbed my bow and arrows. Outside I began to shoot at the target. It helped me somehow, it helped me feel relaxed.

After many great shots I leaned the bow and quiver against the fence and went inside. Grandma and Grandpa were sitting in the living room sipping cups of tea. Grandma offered me a cup but I declined, I had never liked tea only coffee. Mom was packing her lunch in the kitchen. I grabbed a pear and took a bite. "So what are you doing today?" Mom asked. I replied with a shrug. "Well you can go hang with your friends." Again I shrugged. She gave me a slight smile and left.

I threw away the pear core and went to my room. Checking my phone I noticed all my messages. They were from Alice my best friend from middle school. She was asking if I wanted to see a movie. I replied with a simple no, sorry, and a frowny face. She again asked and added that everyone was going. Knowing she wasn't going to give up I accepted and asked what movie were we going to watch. A moment later she replied 'Star Wars, the new one'. I had wanted to see that one for a while now, and a movie wouldn't require talking of any kind. I replied sure, and that was that. She would be here in thirty minutes.

"So are you going out with your friends?" My mom asked coming into the room, I nodded.

"Yea, we are going to the new Star Wars movie in thirty minutes, so. . ." I said quietly.

"That's good. Well, I'm going to work, bye Hun." my mom said, walking over she gave me a kiss on the top of my head then walked out the way she came. I huffed and laid back on my bed, throwing my phone to the side. I laid there for who knows how long, then decided to get into something a little more of what I'm used too. I opened my closet and saw the clothes I stole from Holter in Narnia. Aslan let me keep them.

Running downstairs I grabbed a garbage from the kitchen. Once back in the closet I stuffed the clothes into the sack and threw it to the back of the closet. I grabbed a pair of jeans and a short sleeve t-shirt.

After I changed into the clothes, I sat down on my bed and waited for Alice to pick me up. Ten minutes passed and there was a knock at the door. I pulled on a pair of flats and went to open it. "Melanie!" Alice basically yelled in my ear as she hugged me.

"Hi." I said, hugging her back. It was nice to hug someone other than family for a change.

"You ready?" She asked looking at me. I nodded. "Are you really going to wear that, it's so plain?" she asked upset.

"Yes. Now can we go?" I said walking out the door. Alice followed close behind as we got into her brothers minivan.

"Melanie, nice to see you again!" He said. His name is Conor, and he's pretty cool, 17, sporty, and really nice. You wouldn't expect him to act the way he does, sense he looks like a popular jock, but he's nice.

"Yea, nice to see you too." I said sliding in next to my other friend Macey who sat shotgun. I slid the side door open and peered inside. Zack, Tomi's older brother who has been hitting on me and Emma for the longest time, was sitting in backseat. I squeezed between him and Tony his henchman. Alice and Maddie, another friend, sat in the middle. I sneered at Zack who pretended to yawn and stretch so he could put his arm around me.

Alice turned around and slapped his leg, "You pervert!" I gave her an appreciative glance. Zack slowly removed his arm from my shoulder.

Once we arrived at the theater it was hard to crawl over everyone to get out. Once everyone was out they started to talk in happy tones. Feeling like I didn't belong I walked into the movie theater and bought my ticket. Everyone else followed my lead. We all found seats in the middle and the previews started. One was about Aliens attacking, and another one was of zombies, another was disney movie, and so on. And finally the movie started. The theater quieted, and the intro music blared, making my seat shake.

The movie was almost done, and we were in a fight scene. I know it is fake, but the blood, and lives lost got to me on a personal level. Flash backs flew through my mind, of getting whipped, of almost loosing Emma, Holter, and others I cared about. The images were so disturbing I started to have a panic attack. I was back in the kings dungeon, being tortured by the kings men. I started to hyperventilate. Blood, more blood. Emma's scars, Patten's blind eyes, Holter's hurt body. In the movie the battle rages on. I have to get out of here, or I'm going to scream. More images of the evil king laughing, blood splattered across his face.

"I need to get out of here." I whispered to Alice who was sitting to the right of me. I got up and stumbled out of the theater. In the bathroom I splashed water on my face, trying to get back into reality. Alice came into the bathroom.

"You okay?" she asked coming over to me. I shook my head.

"No." I answered. I looked through the mirror at Alice.

"What's wrong? The movie wasn't that scary, not scary at all actually, so why are you in here. Are you sick? I could have Conor drive you home." She said laying a hand on my back. I decided that I did feel sick. I felt PTSD, which I didn't think I would ever experience in my life time. I never had it in Narnia, so whats wrong with the real world that I now have it? I looked back on my memories of being in Narnia, remembering Emma screaming in the middle of the night with awful nightmares. But they wouldn't last long, Patten would always calm her down. She wakes up more often nowadays, and not even I can calm her down. She has many sleepless nights, I wonder how she will act tonight. Yes, I need to go home, I need to get away from this theater.

"Can he?" I asked in a weak voice. Alice nodded and left the bathroom. I looked back at myself in the mirror. My hair was a mess, my face wet with the water, my hands trembling. I walked out of the bathroom, and sat down outside the theater. The music from the movie played loud enough to where I could hear it through the wall. Alice and Conor came out a couple of minutes later.

"Hey, Melanie." Conor said helping me up onto my feet. "You feeling sick?" he asked. I nodded my head. "Okay then, I'll take you home. I'll come back for the rest of you, go enjoy the movie Alice." He said pushing Alice towered the door of the movie. She walked in, but not before looking back at me with concern.

The drive back to my house was short, there was no talking. I just stared out the window, the memories still flashing through my mind. "You look awful." Conor said pulling into the driveway. "Do you need help getting into the house?" He asked.

"I think I can make it, thank you." I said getting out of his van. I walked slowly toward the door then walked inside without a glance at Conor.

"Back so soon?" My grandma asked as I walked into the living room.

"Yea, I feel sick, I'm going to take a nap." I said.

It was the worst nap I have ever taken in my life. The dreams that over took my mind were horrible. I woke up screaming, and my mom, back from shopping, came running into my room. "My god Melanie! You scared me!" She said slumping agents the bed frame.

"Sorry mom." I whispered, shaking a little out of fear. "I'm going to call Emma." I said.
