New Dawn

Emma and Melanie have returned from Narnia, but they aren't the same person they were. Things have changed them, and they won't be the same, and how will they face the real world knowing that they will never see Patten and Holter again.

This is the second book in the New Series the last book was New Kingdom, so if you haven't read that book, you should start there. This is a Narnian Fanfiction - thank you.

10. Boring Days Gone Wrong

She left a day ago, one long terrible day. Alana said we can't leave for another week, because of the dragons, and well, I don't really want to leave. Holter does though, to see Melanie.

"Patten! My king!" a servant yelled running into the room. I looked up from the book I was reading.

"What is it?" I asked. The servant was bent over, trying to catch her breath.

"16 more people were killed by the dragons today." She said softly. I rubbed a hand over my face.

"Is that all?"

"Yes sir. Alana went to the summer castle to make sure Melanie got there okay." I nodded, none of what she said was news for me. Alana left in the morning, and I had heard about the deaths from her before she left.

"You may be dismissed." I said, the servant bowed and left the room. Tomi was sitting down in the corner reading a book listening. She looked up at me.

"You are disappointed that Emma left, and, let me think.... you are annoyed that Alana left to the summer home without you." I nodded. "Yes!" She yelled setting the book down on a coffee table next to her, and stood up.

"I am all the things you said, and more. I wish Emma didn't leave without me. I'm terribly worried about her, and for Melanie. I don't like being split up." I said turning to look at Tomi.

"Well, I don't think there is anything we can do about that." She said, then added "But, if you want to do something, to keep your mind off of things, you could, possibly - teach me to sword fight." I smiled nodding.

I stood up, Tomi was smiling from ear to ear. I pulled out my sword walking out of the library and into the thrown room where Holter sat cleaning his sword. "Holter, may we use your sword?"

"Sure." He said handing the sword to Tomi, guessing what was going on.

"Thank you." Tomi said, holding the sword as if it were magical. Holter laughed sitting down on his thrown to watch. At first Tomi was clumsy but learned quickly. I taught her many different tricks with the sword.

"OW!" she yelled dropping her sword as I hit her with the flat of my blade. "I'm guessing Emma is a lot better sword fighter then me."

"Definitely, but this is your first time, you'll get better. Again!" I yelled getting back into position, Tomi copied me. We sparred for a bit longer till I got bored and hit the sword out of her hand then slapped the flat of the blade on her leg.

"Ugh, I didn't stand a chance, did I?" I shook my head smiling.

"No, but you put up a good fight, just keep practicing." I said sheathing my sword. Sweat beaded down Tomi's face as she handed the sword back to Holter. Tomi began walking when she realized her leg was wet. "What's wrong?" Holter asked standing up. Tomi held up her hand, which was wet with blood. I ran to her and caught her right as she was about to fall.

"Tomi, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hurt you!" I ranted, picking her up and running to her room. Holter ran after us, finding loose clothe, and some cleaning supplies. I set her down on the bed, then pulled off the dress she was in, which made her blush hard. I looked over the wound, it wasn't too deep, but deep enough that it would need stitches. "Holter, do we have thread?" I asked. He handed me thread and a needle and I sewed up Tomi's leg.

After Patten finished cleaning up the wound Alana burst through the door "My King, sorry for interupting but.." She hesitated. "but... Melanie... is... dead!" she said.

"What no. . . No! . . . no?" Alana nodded her head. "No!" My eyes got blurry from tears. I screamed, letting my feelings take hold of me. "No... it can't be... we can't part like this!" The fight ran through my head, me yelling at her, her yelling back.

"I'm sorry, my king... is there anything I can do?" I shook my head.

"Leave me." Alana nodded, but didn't move. "Leave me!" I yelled at her, she bowed and left the room, I screamed again, pacing the room. I stopped, turned to face the wall, and punched it. "no." I leaned into the wall, setting my head on it. There was a knock on the door. "Go away!" I yelled with as much force as I could muster.

"Holter." Patten whispered softly. He opened the door and I walked up to him with the intention of punching him, but ended up in his arms. "Shhhhhh, it's okay." He whispered in my ear rubbing my back.

"No, It's not okay. How did she die?" I asked.

"She was killed by a red dragon on the way to the summer house." Patten said softly.

"We can't part like this. We can't" I whispered. Only one thing entered my head at that moment.

"Holter, don't be stupid, you killing a dragon by yourself its... imposible." Patten yelled at me from the doorway as I scurried around my room packing my things. Patten could yell at me all he wanted I am not changing my mind.

"Patten, please, I have to do this for Melanie."

"Is this what Melanie would have wanted, for you to bring violence to a world she worked so hard to bring peace to?" I turned away from Patten and continued to pack. "Fine. Do you what you want." He sighed as he left the room.

I headed out late that day by horse back. I was informed that the red dragon lived in a cave in the mountains. I pushed the horse all through the night and into the next day. I noticed he started to slow so we stopped by a pond to rest.

"I'm sorry I pushed you so hard boy." I patted the horses neck. "Go home." I shouted slapping the horses hind. All horses have the sense to return home. Once I was sure the horse was heading in the right direction I took off at full speed towards the mountains. I could see them in the distance.

I reached the cave late in the afternoon. The cave smelled fowl and was large and round with only one exit. I unseathed my sword and charged inside. It was too dark to see anything until I came face to face with a big, angry, red dragon. Baring its teeth, it snapped at me, spitting fire when it failed. I jumped to the side and slashed my sword at its face. It whirled around and hit me with its tail smacking me into the wall.

"This is who that woman sends to kill me, a weak, stupid boy." The dragon said pinning me to the wall.

"I don't know what you're talking about! I'm here to avenge my love, the queen of Narnia, who you killed only days ago."

The dragon chuckled, "The queen! I assure you I have killed no royalty in my lifetime. Who ever told you that is lieing." The laughter echoed throughout the cave. Alana wouldn't lie about something like that.

"You're the one who's lieing." The dragon growled and threw me against the cave wall.

"How dare you come into my home and call me a lier. It was Alana, whoever that is, who told you that I killed the queen? It was most likely her who did it.  Maybe that's why she wants all the dragons dead, because they threaten her authority." The she-dragon must have noticed my confusion because she continued, "Us dragons weren't in this land when the queens first came here. After they united the elves and humans their strenghs as leaders grew. That's what drew us here we can sense great power and we wish to protect it."
