7. Chapter 7

I see why no one wanted to miss this party, it's got everything going on. Leo also has a big house a pool and practically his own beach. Not forgetting that there's about four coolers, full of beer.

"Taylor Hey!" Phoebe says, rushing over to me. "And Chase... You alright?" she says, even though she knew we were coming together, she's still acting surprised.

"Hey Phoebe" he says and she smiles.

"Well, I'm glad you're here, I feel like such a loner" she says, now I feel bad for coming with Chase.

"Shall we go and say hi to everyone?" I suggest.

"Ruby is with Ashton and Zara doesn't know whether she is coming" she says, I'm surprised that Zara isn't keen on coming, considering how many hot guys there will be here.

"Typical Zara, it's probably just because I'm here" Chase says, rolling his eyes as we walk out to the back off the house.

"Why? What's the deal with you two?" I ask, curious. They seem to have some sort of history.

"Nothing, Zara is just... Zara, hey look there's everyone" he says, changing the subject. Why is he so sketchy about Zara? He walks ahead and I stay back, mainly because in about three seconds, I'll be saying hello to Leo. I don't know what it is about him, he just makes me so angry.

It's warm outside, it never gets cold over here. There's loads of people, many of them in the pool, girls and guys are 'making out' all over the place.

"What's the real situation with Zara and him?" I ask Phoebe, quietly.

"They never dated so don't worry" she says, nearly laughing, "but... I don't know, they've known each other for years, they always act like they hate each other, but I don't know why" she says, not very helpfully.

"Sounds weird" I say.

"What sounds weird?" Leo says, now right in front of me. It's annoying, how good he looks. Better than Chase, obviously. Why are the jerks always the hottest? It's really not fair. He's just got out of the pool and his hair is still perfect, I'm not even going to begin thinking about his body.

"Nothing... you alright?" I say, trying to be a bit friendly, I can't be rude to him, this is his house and his party.

"I'm great and how is Taylor?" He says, he could have just said 'how are you?' Like a normal person, but he has to say it over confidently, like he's better than everyone else. God he's such an ass. Maybe he's just a bit drunk.

"I'm great too" I say, being short again, because I know it gets to him.

"Can I get you a drink?" He asks, with a cheeky smile.

"No it's fine, I'll get her one" Chase says, saving me.

"Thanks" I say, following him over to the beer cooler. I feel bad for leaving Phoebe again, Ruby is there but she's all over her boyfriend, they look like they need to get a room.

"Beer?" Chase asks.

"Sure, thanks" I say. "So can you answer me seriously this time? What's with you and Zara, because if there's some history between you two, then I want to know, I don't want to be in the middle of anything" I say.

"Calm down, there's no history exactly, Zara and I... We used to be close I guess, then all of a sudden she started hating me, so I started hating her back, is that okay?" He says, not really too bothered about it.

"Okay, so I'm not interfering with anything between you two?" I ask.

"No your in the clear" he jokes.

"That's fine then" I say, taking a sip of beer.

"So you want to go in the pool?" He asks, it feels like he's just trying to get me out of my dress.

"Maybe, we'll see" I say, not trying to be kinky.

"So that's a yes" he says, looking pretty impressed. Three of his friends then walk over.

I recognise Freddy from Chemistry and Luca.

"Hey Taylor" Luca says, I feel bad for pretty much ignoring him at the beach earlier.

"Alright" I say, smiling. He's good looking and everything, he just seems sort of shy.

"I better go and find Phoebe, she's on her own" I say.

"Yeh sure, catch you in the pool?" Chase says, in a flirty way.

"You might do" I say, smirking to myself.

I find Phoebe, still with Ashton and Ruby.

"Oh Hey Taylor" Ruby says, finally separating from Ashton.

"Hey guys" I say. Leo is still here, it's like he was trying and failing to socialise with Phoebe.

"Where's Zara then?" He says. Phoebe explains that she doesn't know whether she's coming.

"Oh shame, never mind" he says, it's pretty clear that he's not bothered either way.

"Hey you" Mia says, walking over to Leo, immediately linking her arm around his. He doesn't look too pleased by her presence. She's overdressed again. Her dress is ridiculously slutty, her heels could probably cut somebody's throat, the amount of make up she's plastered on her face makes her look about thirty five. I'm not being nasty, it's the truth, although there's no way I'd say it to her face.

"Hey Mia" Ruby says, being friendly.

Mia pretty much blanks her, she doesn't even acknowledge that Ruby is present.

"Alright Ash" she says smiling to him. She's such a bitch, how can someone be so harsh? I know I'm not the nicest to Leo, but I don't pretend he doesn't exist.

"Ruby was just talking to you" I say, pointing out the obvious. I didn't mean to say it, but someone had to say something, otherwise she will walk over everyone.

"Yeah I heard her" Mia says, in a way that makes me look dumb.

"Well she was being friendly, you could at least say hello back" I say, raising my voice a little. She looks shocked at the words coming out of my mouth. Leo looks like he's getting ready to break up a potential argument. God knows whose side he would be on, probably Mia's, definitely Mia's.

"Taylor, it's fine honestly don't worry" Ruby says, trying to get me to not react to Mia's rudeness.

"It's not fine Ruby, you can't let people treat you like that" I say. I'm surprised that Ashton has never said anything, considering Ruby is his girlfriend.

"How dare you? Just shut the hell up" Mia says, giving me a dirty glare.

"Don't be so up tight with people and I won't have to point it out" I say, I'm being pretty fair, I don't like getting into arguments, but she shouldn't have ignored Ruby in the first place.

"Calm down girls" Leo says, realising it's getting a bit worse.

"Why should I calm down? Get this little bitch to stop harassing me" Mia says, she's so up her own ass it makes me want to scream. I don't want to cause a scene and I don't want her to think she's got to me, so I take Leo's advice and calm down.

"I'm hardly harassing you, it seems like it's about time someone pointed out how vile you are, I don't want to get into an argument" I say, not even wanting to hear her response, so I walk away. I walk past some annoying lads that are wolf whistling, like idiots. They must have heard me go off at Mia.

I walk down to the beach that backs on to his garden, there's less people there. I sit down in the sand.

I hate people like Mia, it's annoying how many people I've met that are exactly like her. It's sort of annoying that Ruby just let her get on with it, even Ashton didn't seem bothered that Mia was treating his girlfriend like crap. I feel like Mia is going to turn everyone against me now, I knew she didn't like me before, but now I'm almost certain that she hates me.

I debate with myself on going home. But I shouldn't leave Phoebe, I've already left her again with all of them. I run my fingers through the sand, I sort of wish I could close my eyes and be back in California. I had finally stopped being the new girl, but then we moved and now I'm the new girl again, I hate it. I pass my beer from hand to hand, I don't really want to go back over there, it will be a bit embarrassing.

"That was interesting, you alright?" A guy says, I look up and see Leo standing just behind me.

"Yeah fine" I say, looking back at the sea ahead.

"I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure your not" he says, sitting down next to me. I really wish he wouldn't, I don't really want to talk about what just happened.

"So your here to tell me I'm in the wrong for going off at your girlfriend, yeah?" I say, pretty sure that's what he's going to do.

"No, I'm not actually" he says, smirking because I was wrong.

"Then what?" I say, with a sigh.

"Mia can be a bitch, you just have to get used to it, I don't blame you for saying something" he says, in an understanding voice.

"Why are you with her if you think she's a bitch?" I say, having to laugh at how stupid it sounds.

"Why? Are you jealous?" He says, raising his eyebrows.

"Shut up" I say, nudging him.

"Is that a yes?" He says, now smiling like he's happy.

"No of course not you idiot" I say.

"Whatever, look are you going to come back up there, or am I going to have to drag you?" he says, I hope jokingly.

"Ha, I'd like to see you try" I say.

"Oh really? Okay then" he says. He grabs both my hands and pulls me up and I really wasn't expecting it.

"Leo!" I shout, in a laughable voice. When I pull back, he loses balance and falls over, straight on top of me. His nose less than a centimetre away from mine, I can feel the warmth of his breath on me. It just smells a bit like beer. I can really smell the product in his perfect hair.

"Sorry" he says, trying to be serious, but then laughing. I sit up, which makes him stand up. He offers me his hand and I grab it as I get up. I notice he wears a plain silver ring on his right hand.

"Thanks" I say.

"I told you I would drag you" he says.

"Yeah, I'll come freely next time" I say, really hoping that there won't be a next time.

We walk back up and I almost forget about that bitch.

I notice Chase in the pool, with a few girls around him, which kind of puts me off him.

"Where is Mia?" I ask, expecting her to come and have a go at me.

"Yeah... She left" he says.

"No, really?" I say, smiling a bit too much.

"Yeah, she got pissed off with me, so she left" he says, not very bothered.

"Why? What did you do?" I laugh, it is funny that she's the one that left.

"Just stuck up for you, she didn't really like that" he says.

"Aren't you worried she will break up with you?" I say, not being able to keep a straight face.

"No not really and anyway, she would never break up with me" he says, seeming pretty sure of himself. I suddenly remember what a big headed jerk he is.

"Oh of course" I say, sarcastically.

"Hey! Taylor, you alright?" Phoebe says. She is again with Ash and Ruby, they're all looking at me like I'm upset.

"Yeah fine why?" I say, at that moment Leo and Ash wonder off to talk to some of their mates.

"What do you mean why? You just had an argument with Mia" Phoebe says.

"Yeah so, she didn't upset me, she just pissed me off" I say.

"You sure?" Ruby says.

"Yes I'm fine guys" I say, almost laughing.

"Well good, and look you didn't have to stick up for me like that, I'm used to Mia's bitchy personality" Ruby says, but I don't find that a good enough reason to not react to it.

"It's fine Ruby, but next time you've got to say something, she can't get away with being so rude" I say.

"Yeah I know, I'm sort of glad Leo had a go at her too" she says.

"What did he say?" I ask, smiling.

"He just told her to stop being a bitch and she didn't really like that, she's probably crying to her friends right now" she says, dying to laugh.

"I have an idea" Phoebe says.

"What?" I ask, still laughing.

"Shots?" She says. That definitely sounds better than cocktails.

The party has only been going on an hour and already there's been drama. As usual I was sort of in the centre of it. It was nice to see someone actually stand up to Mia, I'm the only other one that does.

I grab a couple of beers out the cooler and me and Ash find Luca. It's sort of perfect timing as he's being confronted by his ex.

"Should we save him?" Ash says, taking a beer from me.

"Na, it's entertaining" I say and he agrees.

"... Look I never really liked you okay? I didn't want to upset you" Luca says, desperately trying to reason with her.

"Man he's doing terrible" Ash says, pulling an awkward face.

"We should probably save him actually" I say.

I walk over and interrupt them. I simply say Luca has had a bit too much to drink and he doesn't mean what he's saying. After pointing out another one of my mates to her, she leaves Luca alone.

"Luca, what the hell was that?" Ash says.

"What? Leo your the one that says I should just tell them how it is and break it off" he says.

"Yeah I know, but never tell a girl that you never really liked them" I say, I don't really care, but it's not worth the rage they go into when you do.

"How do you do it then?" He asks, sort of desperately.

"I don't know, ask all the girls I've ever broken up with" I say, sarcastically.

"Whatever" he says.

"Just move on, which girl are you going to hit on tonight?" I say, trying to pick a hot girl for him.

"Well I was hoping Taylor, but she came with Chase" he says, looking even gloomier than before.

"The poor chick, now she's got three lads after her" Ash jokes. I thought there was only two, who else likes her?

"Three?" Luca asks.

"Yeah, you pair and Chase" Ash says, seeming like its obvious.

"What do you mean? I don't like her" I say.

"Fine, you may not like her, but it's pretty clear you want to hook up with her" he says, what have I done to make people think that. Yeah she's really hot, but she doesn't seem to like me.

"Well who doesn't? But guys, I'm with Mia" I say, as that's the only excuse I can think of. It's not even an excuse, I have a girlfriend, I can't be interested in Taylor like that. But that's never stopped me before.

"It doesn't matter anyway, Chase has won her over" Luca says.

After going in the pool a second time, I go into the house to grab a t-shirt. I grab a deck of cards out the draw and five minutes later I'm playing a game of poker with a few, actually a lot of the guys. Mostly everyone else is either in the pool, sicking up alcohol, or they have left because they are hooking up with someone. There's no way in hell, that I would be getting laid tonight, unless I apologised to Mia, but I'm not going to do that.

Ten minutes later and Chase joins us.

"Where've you been?" I say.

"Pool, what does it look like?" He jokes, as he's absolutely drenched.

"Fair enough, you playing?" I say, nodding to the cards.

"Count me in" he says, pulling a chair up.

"Hey, look who's just turned up" Luca says, looking over to the archway that leads into my back yard.

"Typical" Chase says, as he looks at Zara.

"What's that supposed to mean?" I ask, I've always wondered what the situation was between Chase and Zara, they always act weird when either one of them is mentioned.

"Nothing" chase says, from his voice you can tell he's a bit wasted.

She notices her friends, but she has to walk past us to get to them.

"Alright?" She says, to me and Ash, Chase is in her view too, but she doesn't acknowledge him.

"Is there really any point in showing up now?" Chase says, in a sort of exhausted voice. It's like he's trying to annoy her, but struggling.

"If you don't like it that I'm here, just say so, otherwise shut the hell up" she says, walking away, making all the guys 'oooh' at Chase. Once she's out of hearing distance, Chase starts shaking his head.

"What?" Ash says.

"How does she always look so good?" He mutters, taking a side view and checking out Zara from behind. Zara is pretty I guess, she's got a good figure, but she's not amazing. Her hair is blonde, thin and curly and she dresses like a typical girly girl, she's just not really my type. I know one thing for sure and that is, I've never heard chase say something like that about her before.

"What was that? Your admitting that Zara, the girl you literally bully, is good looking" Ash says, pretty surprised, like the rest of us.

"No I don't mean it, it's the... Beer talking" he quite blatantly lies.

As the game goes on, I can't stop thinking about Chase and the girls he seems interested in. An hour ago he was into Taylor and he hasn't really mentioned her.

"So your not going to try and hook up with Taylor anymore?" I ask, discretely, hoping I don't seem too keen to know.

"Yeah, why? Do you want to hook up with her?" He asks.

"No I'm just wondering, make up your mind man, you were just lusting after Zara" I say, trying to laugh.

"Look Taylor is stunning, you know I would if I could, but she seems like a sort of... prude" he says, slurring his words. Practically half the guys at the table, let out a throaty laugh. Prude, is that the best word he can think of, and anyway, why does he think she is a prude?

"Seriously? You think Taylor acts like a prude?" I say, a bit too loudly. Which I soon regret, as it turns out Ruby, Phoebe, Zara and Taylor are less than two footsteps behind us, on their way to the drinks station. I see the confusion in Taylor's face almost immediately.

"What was that?" She demands, now standing right in front of me. Something is different about her, she seems sort flimsy and laid back. Her voice is louder, but not angry. I think those are the symptoms of her drinking a bit too much. I suppose it doesn't take much to get her drunk, she's quite petite.

"You..." She says, pointing straight at me. "...think I'm a... a prude, like some little catholic that is a total virgin?" She says. When Chase said prude, he meant that she was the sort of girl that wouldn't hook up with someone just like that. But Taylor has taken it literally. I'm sort of worried she's going to embarrass herself.

"I didn't say it, I just repeated what Chase said" I say, concerned she's about to give me a lecture, by the look on her face.

"Well let me inform you of something..." She says, everyone is laughing at how legless she is. It's not embarrassing though, it's like she's just extra relaxed, it's more like she's high, but there's no way she is. She carries on talking and I try to listen without cracking a smile. "... I'm far from a prude or a virgin, why don't I prove it to you?" She says, pulling a devious face at Chase.

"Seriously?" He says, now looking fully alert, it's like he's not wasted anymore.

"Yeah come on" she says, holding out her hand. They wonder off together, how did that just happen? He called her a prude and that made her want to hook up with him.

I sort of wish I could stop them, something is telling me I don't want them to get together, not even for one night.

"...we warned her about him, it's her funeral" I hear Zara say, as they go to get a drink. Chase is as bad as they think, but I think Taylor is the sort of girl that can hack it, she doesn't seem like the type to let guys upset her.

I find myself near the pier, on the way home. I'm not alone, I'm with Chase and he is currently completely making out with me. He pushes me against a wooden fence and I run my hands through his hair. It's not that satisfying as his hair isn't that long, unlike Leo Chase's hair is quite short. Leo has that thick tousled hair look, it's not too long though, it doesn't go past his ears. Why am I even thinking about Leo right now? I can't get him out of my head. I sort of wish it was Leo's hands on my waist.

"What is it?" He says, pulling back. I must have looked a bit spaced out, purely because I was too busy thinking about Leo.

"Nothing... Why?" I say, smiling, about to kiss him back, but he pulls away again.

"You're off your face aren't you?" He says, sort of disappointed. I don't see why, surely (me being only a little bit tipsy) would make him happier. I don't think I would have been so kinky earlier on, if I was completely sober.

"No, I'm not really... I'm not really that bad" I say, but I can sort of feel my eyes widening and I am kind of leaning on him for support.

"Don't lie, look I'm not gonna hook up with you if you're gonna turn around and say I used you tomorrow" he says, I feel like he's treating me like trash. He was pretty sure that I wanted to hook up with him... which yeah, I kinda did.

"I wouldn't do that I'm... Im not that pathetic" I say, letting out a breezy laugh, trying to seem laid back.

"Most girls are" he says, smirking slightly.

"Well... I'm not like most girls" I say, giving him a smug look.

"What are you like then?" He asks, putting his hands back on my waist, getting flirty again.

"Shame, looks like you're not going to find out" I say, trying to remember that I respect myself and I'm not going to let him be the judge of what happens between us tonight. I pull away, but grab the fence, as my balance is slightly off.

"Oh really?" He says, but he already knows I'm being serious.

"Look you can't just be interested and then not be interested, you've missed out on a chance to hook up with me" I say, trying to make him disappointed. He doesn't really care.

"I don't think so, there will be many more opportunities when your in your right mind" he says.

"I am in my right mind!" I say, getting defensive.

"No your not Taylor" he says, knowingly, shaking his head. "Look I'll see you Sunday, maybe we can pick up where we left of yeah?" He says, walking away. He said that like it was a rhetorical question, like he thinks we will definitely pick up where we left off, but I don't think so.

"Dream on" I say, before he's out of eyesight. I'm not playing hard to get, but I'm not going to let him use me.

The jerk has just abandoned me on the pier. I debate for a moment on whether to go in the sea for a bit. Then I notice how far the tide has come in. It probably wouldn't have been a good idea anyway. It's pitch black and I can hardly remember where I am, or how to get home. Everywhere looks the same in the dark. I should probably ring Zac, I'm sure he won't mind coming to meet me. Otherwise I will be sleeping on the pier tonight. I automatically go to my back pocket to grab my phone, when I realise it's not there. Then I realise I have left my bag at Leo's, which is probably where it is. Damn.

As our kissing session didn't lead us too far away from Leo's, I can find my way back to his. If my phone weren't in there, I would have left it, but I really need my phone. I don't even know what time it is.

It's different when I get there, I think the music is off. Is the party over? Maybe it too me longer to get back here than I thought. Thankfully, I don't have to knock on any doors, as the back gate is still open. I go through into his back garden. There is literally no one here. But the place is trashed. I don't seem to remember whether his parents are here, I should hope not as this will take him ages to clean up.

"Leo?" I say, quite loudly. I don't see him anywhere. No answer, which makes me feel like I'm trespassing.

"Leo!" I say, ready to leave, as I feel bad that I've just walked in. I can't just go rummaging for my bag, that would be awkward if he just walked out.

"Taylor? Is that you" he says, coming out of his house with a black rubbish bag.

"Yep it's Taylor" I say, realising I sound like a fool, saying it like that. He lets out a small laugh.

"What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be in bed with Chase right about now" he says.

"What? No, the jerk just abandoned me on the pier" I say.

"On your own? In the dark? The idiot, why did he leave you?" He asks. Why he seems concerned about me being on my own I don't know.

"He said I was too drunk and he didn't want me to blame him for taking advantage or something" I say, getting confused with my own words.

"He has a point, you are a bit tipsy Taylor" he says, laughing.

"No I'm not Leo, I'm fine honest" I say, I really am.

"Seriously, no your not, anyway why'd you come back? Want me to walk you home?" he says, I don't know why he's being so selfless. Why would he offer to walk me home? This guy confuses me so much.

"No I'm good, I just sort of... Forgot where I live" I say, laughing. "I just needed my phone to call my brother and I realised I left my bag here" I say, I sound so stupid, I didn't forget where I live, I just wanted my brother to meet me so I don't get lost. I'm still getting used to living over here.

"Aww so you didn't come back for me?" He says, slowly lifting his eyes and giving me a teasing look.

"Yeah Chase didn't want me, so I came back to see if you did" I say sarcastically.

"I knew you wanted me" he says, ignoring the fact I was quite clearly joking. I stumble over to the other side of the pool and grab my bag that I left on the wall.

"I'll be going then" I say, about to walk out.

"Why'd you have to take things so seriously? I was only kidding" he says.

"I know... I'm not stupid" I say.

"Well I'm not going to let you walk home on your own, so come on" he says, chucking the rubbish bag on the table in front of him.

"No it's fine I'll call my brother" I say, worrying I won't know which way to lead Leo.

"Taylor it's nearly 2am, I'll walk you back" he says.

He holds the gate open for me and were soon back to the pier. I head in the direction I'm pretty sure I came in on the way here.

"Who forgets where they live?" Leo laughs.

"I know where I live, I just forgot which way I came" I say.

"You're crazy, I swear" he says, I hope joking.

"Oh thanks" I say, trying to act offended.

"Your welcome, anyway it's a good crazy, your different you know" he says. Is he complementing me?

"Am I supposed to say thanks?" I ask.

"Yeah you are" he says, being cocky again. I just shake my head at him, because I don't know what I want to say.

"Which street?" He asks.

"Erm, that one I think" I say, pointing to the street on my left.

"Are your parents going to kill you for getting back late?" He asks.

"No... My Dad doesn't care, he probably didn't even notice I was gone" I say. I make my Dad out to be a bad Dad, he's not, he is just always busy doing other things, instead of looking out for me and Zac.

"What about your Mom?" He asks.

"...I don't live with my mom, she isn't over here" I say.

"Oh sorry" he says.

"Don't be, she's not worth talking about, I haven't seen her in like a year, her and my Dad are divorced, they hate each other" I say, trying to laugh to lighten the conversation.

"You didn't have to tell me that" he says, sort of pitiful.

"It doesn't bother me, calm down" I say, laughing.

"This is my house, I think" I joke.

"So, I'll be seeing you Sunday then" he says, reminding me of the surf off.

"Sure, can't wait" I say, pretending to be excited.

We have an awkward moment of silence, we're just looking at each other. Then it's even more awkward when we both go to say something.

"Thanks for walking me, anyway, see you" I say.

"Yeah you will" he says, with a cheeky smile. I go inside and shut the door, quickly as he was still standing there.

What is it about him? I know he's everything I'm trying to avoid. But he's so bloody hot, every time I see him, I can't help but wish I could just kiss him. He's usually such a jerk. I need to stop being tempted, it's not going to happen. It can't.
