6. Chapter 6

Today has been really boring, lessons have gone slower than ever, I just want to leave. Maybe the only reason I want to leave is because that means I can go surfing.

"Taylor?" Someone snaps. I look to the front and remember I'm in my Chem lesson. Ms Martin gives me a bit of an irritated look. My chin is slanted in the palm of my hand and it's quite clear that I've not being paying attention at all.

"Yeah?" I say, my ears haven't been listening the whole lesson, because she has been rambling on about rock decay for the past half an hour.

"Your answer to the question I just asked please" she says.

"What question?" I ask, having no clue what she is going on about. Leo who is sat next to me, seems to be finding this funny for some reason. Thankfully he hasn't had a chance to annoy me by opening his mouth, as Ms Martin has had the class silent since we stepped in here.

"Were you not listening? Too busy day dreaming?" She says, sarcastically, which really pisses me off.

"Well maybe I wouldn't have to day dream if your lesson wasn't so boring" I say sitting up, I may seem like some sort of rebel, but I'm not.

"That's your first warning Taylor" she says, giving me a pretty harsh look.

"What for? Speaking the truth?" I say, sighing and slouching back in my chair.

"Second warning!" She says, this time yelling.

"Hey, you should probably drop it or she will have you in detention for a week" Leo says, I hope he is exaggerating, I can't spend another unnecessary hour here every day for the next week.

"Leo! That's your first warning, be quiet!" She says, he rolls his eyes, although he doesn't seem that bothered, he must be used to getting warnings.

"He hardly said anything, what is your problem?" I say, I'm not trying to stick up for him, I just want to annoy her, like she's annoyed me. I shouldn't have said anything, the words just sort of slipped out.

"Right get out Taylor" she says, pointing to the door. Sadly I think she is being serious.

"And where exactly do you want me to go?" I say, sounding sarcastic, I can't help it. I catch a glimpse of Chase on the table next to me, I notice him smirking, like he is finding this entertaining.

"To the chill zone" she says and I haven't got a single clue what she is talking about.

"The what?" I say, I think everyone can see how uninformed I am of the 'chill zone'.

"Your not seriously going to send her there just because of her big mouth are you?" Leo says, leaning back in his chair, finding it pathetic.

"Now that's your second warning, stay out of this Leo" Ms Martin says.

"She's got a point you know, why are you getting involved?" I say, folding my arms, why does he get to me so much?

"Fine I won't stick up for you next time then" he says, raising his eyebrows at me.

"Fine by me" I say.

"I've had enough, if you two aren't bothered about rock decay then you can both get out" Ms Martin says.

"I haven't done anything" Leo says, now starting to get annoyed. I don't know why he's surprised, he's the one that got himself involved.

"Chill zone, now, both of you" she says. She seems quite stressed out, it's her own fault for making the lesson so boring in the first place. I grab my books and pen and follow Leo out of the class.

I don't know where to begin in finding this chill zone, so I have to follow Leo.

"You really need to learn to control your big mouth you know" Leo says, laughing. He walks faster than me, I assume to annoy me some more.

"My big mouth? What about yours?" I say.

"Look I don't have a big mouth, I was just sticking up for you, her lesson was boring, I agreed with you" he says, coming to a stop and leaning against the door of the 'cool zone'.

"What do you want me to say? Thank you?" I laugh.

"That would be nice" he says, smiling at me.

"Well tough because I'm not going to" I say, smiling back, in an attempt to get on his nerves.

"Hey continue to get your anger out on Ms Martin not me" he jokes.

"Yeah I will! That cow, I hardly did anything, does she not realise no one gives a bloody crap about her stupid lesson, you know she probably just calls herself Ms because she's a lonely spinster that doesn't want anyone to know" I say, almost shouting, I am being a bit over the top, but she's so annoying. I've been here a week and me being sent out will surely go on my record, not that I really care.

"Wow, remind me never to get on your bad side, you can be quite feisty when you want to be" Leo says, laughing at me.

"Oh well I'm sorry" I say sarcastically, sighing as I notice a sign that says 'cool zone'.

"It's alright, maybe I like that about you" he says, annoyingly curving the corner of his mouth into a smile, but it's a flirty smile a do don't like it.

"You don't seem to care that she kicked you out anyway" I say, changing the subject.

"I don't really care, I've been here three times this week, four including now" he says, like he's proud of it.

"Oh wow, how impressive" I say, rolling my eyes at him.

He holds the door open for me and ignores what I said. We spend the next minute explaining to the supervisor why we are there. He gives us a worksheet and we sit down. There's no one else in here, but we're sat on desks next to each other.

"So I know you're coming with Chace, but I was going to invite you tonight anyway" Leo says, before the supervisor tells him to be quiet.

"What makes you think I want to come?" I say quietly, whilst scribbling answers on my worksheet.

"It's my party, so you wouldn't miss it" he says, the self centred jerk.

"Leo can you move to the back please?" The supervisor says.

"No it's fine I will" I say, grabbing my stuff and going to the furthest back desk.

When the bell goes, I try to hurry out, just so that I don't have to walk with him.

I'm half down the hallway when he hurries past me.

"So I'll catch you later" he says.

"Maybe" I say, but it's quite clear that I will be there, everyone is going so I wouldn't want to miss it.

"I think definitely, considering you're going with Chase, what's the deal with you two anyways?" He says, raising his eyebrows.

"Nothing yet, what's it got to do with you?" I say, I don't know why he always has to get involved. I say always and I've only known him a week, what's it going to be like when I've known him a month.

"Nothing, I'm just wondering" he says, smirking. We have to walk down the hallway together, much to my appreciation. "So... Chase told me about this surf off he's planning" he says, with a smug look on his face.

"Oh yeah, you up for it?" I say.

"Just me and you?" He says, coming to a stop and folding his arms.

"Yeah, unless anyone else thinks they can beat me" I say, not meaning to be cocky.

"You're quite confident aren't you?" He laughs.

"No, maybe your just nervous, not nervous of losing to a girl are you?" I joke, he seemed like a good surfer the other day, so in all honesty I think he has a chance in beating me, but there's no way I would let him know I think that.

"You wish" he says.

"You think I wish you were nervous, you better not be, I don't want that to be the reason I beat you" I say, throwing a pretty sure of myself look at him.

"Do you really think you'll win against the surf champ? As everyone else likes to call me" he says, making me go mental inside, I thought I was being cocky, but he's more big headed than anyone.

"Maybe you could just accept that your not as good as you think you are" I say, smiling, because hopefully I've offended him.

"Really? Your really going to say I'm not good?" He says, he has a point, I did sort of say that out of spite.

"Yeah okay your good, really good to be fair, but maybe I'm just as good" I say, trying to make him nervous, but it's not going to work, he's so laid back, nothing seems to bother him.

"Thank you, was that really a compliment?" He says, looking surprised.

"Yes, enjoy it, it's the first and last you'll get from me" I say, walking off before he can start another conversation. All that bragging about being a good surfer has made me sort of nervous for Sunday now. If I don't win I'll look stupid, I need to get all the practice I can, if I want to make him lose.

I catch Ruby on my way out. She is with Ashton, he's nice considering he's really good friends with Leo.

"You alright?" She says.

"Yeah fine" I say.

"So someone told me you're coming with Chace tonight?" Ashton says, being nosy, but it doesn't bother me. Word does travel fast around this school.

"Ash!" Ruby says, in a snappy voice.

"What?" He says, not realising what he's done wrong, I am as equally confused.

"Well it's quite obvious that I'm the one that told you... Sorry Taylor" she says, feeling bad. I don't know why she's worrying about it, I don't really care who she tells, it's no big deal.

"Ruby calm down, it doesn't matter, everyone can know for all I care" I say, almost laughing at how worried she was.

"Seriously?" She says, wondering whether I am joking.

"Yes chill out" I laugh.

"Yeah chill out rubes" Ashton says, just to wind her up.

"Whatever... So you're definitely coming right?" Ruby says, as we start to walk back.

"Yeah I think so" I say.

"Great! Do you want to come to mine to get ready?" She says, I don't know why I can't just get ready on my own.

"Erm... I might, but I was going to go surfing first anyway" I say, I doubt I will go round. "What are you wearing?" I add.

"Well it's a pool party, so probably just bikini and a dress" she says.

"I'd be happy with that" Ashton says, putting his arm around her waist.

"Well I know you would" she says, laughing.

"I'm going to go, so I'll catch you guys later" I say, as I'm pretty sure they don't want me third wheeling.

"Bye" they both say as I walk off.

I dump my things at home and grab the board Leo lent me. I only want to go tonight because Chace asked me.

Ruby did tell me that we were all invited anyway, but Leo's girlfriend didn't ask us. I don't know what she's got against us, or me in particular. She wasn't too friendly on Monday when I met her and every time I've seen her since then, she seemed to be giving me evils.

I head to the beach and the waves look good. I lose track of how long I spend in there. When I get out I check my phone, there's two texts, one from Phoebe and one from Zara. They're both telling me that the party starts at seven. It's now practically five, so I've got a couple of hours. I suppose I should text Chase, as we were going to go together. I don't really know what that means. Did he think we would walk there together? Or maybe he meant that we would meet each other there. Thankfully he texted me his number so I try to play it cool on the text and say,

"Hey, you're gonna have to meet me tonight, I have no clue where Leo lives". I send it, hoping I don't sound too pathetic.

I'm just about to go back in the sea, when a guy walks over to me.

"Your a great surfer you know" he says, he must be the third guy that's said that this week, are they just trying to flatter me?

"Thanks..." I say, not having a clue what his name is.

"Luca, I'm Luca, I'm mates with Leo and Chase" he says and it then clicks, he was here the other night.

"Oh yeah, I remember you" I say.

"Really?" He says, surprised.

"Sure" I say, laughing at how shocked he seems.

I don't really know why he's talking to me, but I don't want to be rude.

"Do you surf?" I ask, purely because the silence is getting weird.

"Yeah... I'm not that great though, maybe you could teach me how to surf like you" he says, I hardly know this guy and he wants me to teach him how to surf, that just sounds awkward.

"Maybe,... Your mates are good surfers, I'm sure they could teach you" I say, trying to get the idea out of his head.

"Well I suppose..." He begins before I notice a text come through from chase.

"Hey I need to get going, I'll see you at the party later right?" I say, reading my phone as I walk on.

"Yeah sure" he says.

Chase said he will meet me right here at the beach. I suppose that's best, as I would probably get lost looking for Leo's house.

I don't get why that Luca guy came to talk to me. What is it with the guys here? They won't leave me alone. Have they never met a girl that surfs before.

I get home and go and get ready. I spend ages deciding. I want to look good. But I don't want to dress up too much. I shove on a white bikini and then choose a black play suit, that reaches to the middle of my thighs. There's no way I'm wearing heels, it's only a pool party, so I choose some black and gold sandals instead. My hair is still wavy from the sea, so I leave it that way.

I go downstairs and I'm cornered by Zac.

"Where do you think you're going?" He says, surprised that I'm dressed up.

"Out" I say, shortly.

"Really? I never would have guessed" he says, sarcastically. I barge my way past him.

"What do you want Zac?" I say, looking in the downstairs mirror while I put my earrings in. We haven't managed to get the kitchen unpacked, but I've managed to make my Dad hang the mirror up.

"Dad's out getting food and I'm you're big brother, that means I'm responsible, so where are you going?" He says, folding his arms, like he's superior to me.

"Fine, I'm going to a pool party at a guy from school's house" I say, I wasn't fussed about telling him, I just couldn't be bothered.

"What guy?" He says, with a sort of ready to laugh look.

"What? Are you trying to act like Dad?" I say, getting annoyed.

"Maybe I am, I'm sure Dad will want to know where you are Tay" he says, acting serious for a split second.

"Actually I'm sure he won't, he didn't care where I was at 4am when we were back in California, so what's the difference now?" I say.

"Good point... But I want to know where you're going" he says.

"I just told you, to a... Mates house" I say, debating whether or not to call Leo a mate.

"Well have fun, don't do anything stupid" he says, like he's telling me not too drink too much or be back too late.

"Okay first, it's Friday night so I don't really care what time I'm back home and second, you act like Dad one more time and I swear to god...–" I begin.

"Aren't you going to be late?" He interrupts, he's such an annoying brother. He pretends to care, but really he's just trying to wind me up.

"Ugh see you later you loser" I say, slamming the back door on my way out.

I am five minutes late, but chase is still waiting for me when I get to the beach. He looks good, he's wearing a white t-shirt and black shorts.

"Hey, sorry I'm a little late" I say.

"No worries, you look... Good" he says, looking me up and down, but mainly focussing on my chest, which makes me feel awkward.

"Thanks for meeting me, I had no clue where Leo lives" I say.

"It's cool, shall we go?" He suggests.

"Yeah sure" I say.

Less than five minutes later, we are at Leo's. I'm quite embarrassed, as his house was literally just down the beach. His house is quite big and it backs on to the sea, that means he can go surfing whenever he wants. That's probably an advantage for him, it gives him more chance in winning on Sunday.
