4. Immortal Burden

I looked around the room taking in the black and white decor. I walked over to the desk to the corner, pulling the chair out and sitting down. I gazed into the mirror that sat in front of me, and a gold necklace caught my eye. I reached over picking it up, and as I did two letters fell out of a hidden department. I sat the necklace down picking up one of the letters. It had the name Maria on the front of it, and the writing that it was in was beautiful. I opened the letter, “Maria, my love, This life is killing me. Let’s run away together, I know that you are unhappy as I am here.”

Whoever wrote this wasn’t Iron, and It made me wonder what type of woman this Maria was. I picked up another one, but this one had no name on it. I opened it to see that the writing was different that the last letter, and the way it written it had to be a female. “I’m sorry, but I don’t know what you are talking about. We have never even shared anything together. Please leave me alone, you’re becoming something that neither me or Iron want here.” “Why are you in here? Who are you?” The voice was a deep, and as I turned I saw a man in the door way. He looked a little older than Iron, well, at least he looked older than him. His eyes were locked on me as if he was starring at a ghost, and he cleared his throat.

“You must leave now, Lord Iron must not see you.” I turned back around looking at the letter, and I closed it grabbing the other one. I stuffed them back into the compartment it was in. “He already knows I’m here, so can you leave whoever you are.” He turned just as Iron did, and disappeared into the darkness of the hallway. A scream sounded through the house, and the sound of glass shattering followed shortly afterwards.I ran out the door toward where the sound came from, and I saw Iron laying on the floor. I ran over to him, and as I was about to he looked up at me.

Blood was dripping down his face, and the cracks that I had saw before were back. They were bleeding as if they were engraving themselves into his skin. His eyes went to the floor around him, and he started to try to get to his feet. I moved back to give him some room, but as he tried he fell again. I grabbed his arm trying to help him up, but was pulled to the floor with him. I collapsed into the blood making it smear onto the floor, and as we met on the floor his hands went to mine. His breathing was hoarse making shivers run down my spine. He slowly sat up looking at me, and his hands went to my shoulders. He slowly pushed me into the blood letting it sink into my clothes, but as it touched my skin I didn’t feel disgusted.

He towered over me starring at me, and as he moved a drop of blood escaped from one of the cracks. It splattered onto my face, but he didn’t move. His face looked as if it was in pain, but it was as if he was holding it  in. He moved off of me quickly, and I sat up letting my blood soaked hair hit my shoulders. I got to my feet following the path that Iron took, and as I did arms went around me. I looked behind my head to see Iron, and the cracks had gotten worse. He put something over my face, and my eyes slowly to shut. “Iron.”
