28. I'm Afraid

I sank to my knees staring down at my hands, the blood that stained them. The flashes of the my hands tearing into it’s chest, slicing through it’s flesh with one instinct blow. Pain hit my abdomen, a pain that hurt more than life it’s self. I put my hand on my stomach, and fear went though my body. My baby. “Iron!” My voice was low, but it would travel. I could hear explosions coming from everywhere, and the pain slowly got worse. I slowly lifted my hand, and as I saw blood tears filled my eyes. “Iron, help me.” “What’s wrong?” I could hear his voice, but he was nowhere in sight. “I’m bleeding from-,” “Just stop the bleeding, I’m occupied right now.” I couldn’t breathe, and air around me was getting thicker by the second. “Iron I’m bleeding from my stomach.”

He didn’t respond for a second, but I could feel his fear. “I’ll send Dasim to come take you somewhere safe.” My vision began to blur, and then the voice came back. “Do you see what you can do.Why wait for someone who’s holding back.”  “I’m afraid. I’m afraid of everything. I can’t even trust my brain.” The voice went silent, a silence that scared me. The floor was covered in blood, mine and the beast I had slain. I couldn’t hold on to reality anymore, “You’re afraid, I’ll show you afraid.” I was snatched into the darkness within.

There were trees all around me, trees that were dead and decaying. Deep in my memory I remembered this place, but I couldn’t recall being here. I could hear something running in my direction, and as the figure emerged my breathe caught. I knew that face, the face belonged to me. The face that I was born with, and the face that two more people shared. An’eleka, it was An’eleka. She ran right through me, and after her followed a heard of people with pitchforks. It was an angry mob, and the small voice in my head returned. “You don’t fear, but you soon will.” I felt my body start aching all over, and as I touched my left arm I wasn’t no longer myself. I was An’eleka. My feet were aching and my arms were cut making blood flow down my arms. I looked back at the people chasing me, and as I continued to run I could hear Iron’s voice. It was faint but I could hear him, hear him saying something to me. His voice was shaking, “Nora, please wake up.”  I was trying to wakeup, but I couldn’t. I tripped and as my body hit the ground the people behind me began to hoop and holler. Before I could get up something wet hit me, something that smelled like a chemical. I knew who it was, I figure it out. It was gasoline. I turned over to look at the people, and one face stood out. It was Dita, Dita was standing in the crowd of people chanting for me to burn. As they lowered the torch to my gasoline wet body my eyes came out.

My body shot up straight making pain shoot me, and Iron slowly pushed me back down. His lips met mine, his tong exploring my mouth with a deep hunger. I put my hands on his chest pushing him back, but failed. His hands went to my stomach. “I’m so glad that you’re alright,” I hated it when he spoke to me with thoughts. I pushed his lips from mine, “I’m glad you’re okay too.” I looked down at his body, and noticed that he had a bandaged on his upper chest. He must have noticed me staring because he kissed me again. This one was quick, and as he moved out of the way my heart dropped. I was staring at An’eleka, I was staring at me. Iron’s eyes switched to where I was looking, but how he looked utterly confused when he looked at me. “What are you looking at?” I could hear my heart beating in my chest, and my breath was coming hard. “You don’t see her,” “see who? What are you talking about?”

Was I going crazy, was I losing my mind? I looked down at my hands, and the images of ripping through flesh flashed in my memory. I closed my eyes squeezing them to have more effect, but they wouldn’t stop coming. I could remember everything. Ripping through it’s flesh with my bare hands, hearing he beast cry in agony as I ripped off it’s arms. Biting into it’s bitter flesh, tasting it’s tasteless blood on my tong. I put my hands on my face trying to stop it, but then pain hit my body. Pain that felt like I was burning, pain that made my scream. I opened my eyes to Iron standing above me, and I noticed that he was holding me down. His voice sounded through my head like a sedative, “Calm.” My body began to calm down, “Iron.......”

As a memory flashed in front of my eyes I stopped breathing. No, not her, it can’t be. I couldn’t believe my own mind, but I saw Dita commanding the wolf foreword from her place in the corner. “Nora, you got to calm down. You’ve been doing that each time you have awoken.” He was out of breathe, but I was focused on what I had remembered. I slowly sat up running a hand through my tangled hair. “Iron, where’s Dita?” I looked at him to see him staring at me, “She’s in the room with Dasim. Why?” I looked toward the door, “Go get her.”
