1. Bound To You

“Voices, I hear voices. They echo through my skull like a microphone at a concert. They say things that I can’t understand, almost like in another language. I see things, things that aren’t there. There is always the same man there, tall, green eyes, pale skin, long brown hair, and a slight beard growing.” I looked up at my therapist, but he was looking down at his clip board writing down what I had said. He looked up, “You talk as if you know this man. What does the man do?” I close my eyes and picture the man, “He’s always sitting somewhere. It looked like a cliff, he’s always starring at the sky almost as if he was wishing for something.”

“What is this man dressed in?” “He’s dressed in an all black suit, with a long robe over it.” I opened my eyes and sat up, “Thats all I can remember.” He nodded smiling, he wrote something down quickly. “Maybe you should go try to find out who this mystery man is. It might help stop the things that you’re experiencing.” I nodded standing up and heading for the door, “It was nice speaking to you, see you at my next session.” I walked out of the room as fast as I could, and as I approached the dark hall leading to the exit I stopped. I couldn’t believe I was acting like a five year old, I wasn’t afraid of the dark at home; so why did this change anything.

I took a deep breathe and started walking down the hall, and chills ran up my spine as the darkness swallowed my body. My name is Nora Lovely, and you can say I’m normal. I’m 22 now, but when I was younger I was a little weird. I didn’t grow out of it, well, my brain didn’t. I hear voices, and I sometimes see things. It’s always of a man that it absolutely gorgeous. Most of the times he looks sad, like he needs someone to soothe his pain. I pushed the door open letting the summer sun soak into my skin. I looked around to see the campus empty, and since it was Halloween I knew it would be.

I made my way to the campus library, and as I stepped up the steps I heard footsteps approaching. I turned around to see nothing, so I continued into the library. It was dark inside, and the Liberian looked up at me and nodded. I made my way to the very back of the Library, and opened a drawer of very old picture books. I picked one up oddly, and went to sit at a table. I looked at the cover, it was a book with pictures of seventeenth century rulers of mansions. I flipped to the first page of the book. A woman with long red hair and big brown eyes was sitting in a golden chair.

She looked as if she was ruler or something else, but she defiantly had money. I turned through the book looking at each ruler, and as I came to the last page of the book my breathe caught. It was the man, the man from my visions. He was dressed exactly the same, his hair, eyes, skin, everything was exactly the same. I looked at the bottom of the page, “Lord Jose Iron. 1540-1890. Jose Iron disappeared in the year of 1890, and was assumed dead.” I ran my fingers across the page, and I closed my eyes. “You can’t be dead, I’ve seen you.”

I opened my eyes looked at his picture, and I heard another rustling sound coming from the isle of bookshelf’s beside me. I looked around slowly, and a voice startled me. “I see you’re looking through the seventeenth century book.” I looked behind me to see the librarian approaching me, and relief spread through my body. “Yeah, I was just looking. Do you know anything about Jose Iron.” She sat down in the chair beside me, putting on her glasses she took the book from me. “I know only a little. Jose was one of the many wealthy men in that century, but he was the most dangerous. Some said he evil, others said that he was a sweet man.” She flipped the page over revealing another picture of him, but he was holding a woman in his arms.

The woman looked as if she was dead, and he was crying over her. “This is  the picture of him and his wife. She was found dead in the basement of his mansion, and some say he was never the same after that. Thats as far as his story goes, and then the pages go blank.” I stared at the page in awe, “He just disappeared one day?” She nodded, “He just disappeared into thin air, but his mansion didn’t. It still stand here in Ireland, It’s called Iron Mansion. You should go see it.” I smiled at her and she got up and made her way back into the darkness of the library. I laid my head down on the book, and ran my hand over the page. “Where did you go Iron? How does your story end? Am I bound to you?”
