Whispers of the Wolves

Two sets of four life long friends grow up in a seemingly normal life, until one day, things catch fire without a match, things move without being picked up, they can hear things miles away, and they see things that are never meant to be seen. Then one day a mysterious stranger comes telling them that they are destine to save the world that they grew up in, and the world that they belong to; one where the animals talk, mountians get up and move, and magic is everywhere. Given a quest to find the hidden Shifters, they go on a quest of a lifetime, learning more about themselves and the meaning of family as they battle dark demons, old wizards and witches gone bad, and their own mental challenges and friend ship challenges too.

18. Chapter 13 - The other Half

"We carry a new world here, in our hearts.  That world is growing this minute" - Anonymous

Ding!  The late bell chimed through the halls of the High School.  Kids rushed to class unaware of the battle that raged just beyond their sight.  Four people stood on the grounds of the High School.

"Abby, let's go get your friends."  Zach said gently to Abby.  Courtney right behind them was standing next to Miranda.  All four of them made their way to where the informants had told them the other two would be.  Zach and Miranda traveled cloaked in the Veil.  Therefore no person without some sort of Magic would be able to see them.  Finally, they found them oth sitting on a bench outside talking in hushed voices.  Abby and Courtney both walked toward the two.

"Hey Kara, Blythe, it's been a while!"  Kara and Baldwin both looked up with surprised glances.  Their undertoned story cut off as they saw who it was.

"Hello, Abby, Courtney.  What are you doing here?"  Abby looked self consciously to the side where the two other Magics were waiting, cloaked in the Veil.

"I was wondering if we could talk on the field.  And where is Hazel?"  Having both Abby and Courtney turn up at our High School was weird enough, and now that they were asking for someone they hated in Grade School was just weird.

"Abby, Hazel doesn't go to our school."  Blythe answered with almost no emotion.

"Now now, Blythe.  I know she comes to this school, her attendance record is here.  So, I repeat.  where is Hazel?"  This was getting creepy Blythe motioned to Kara.

"Look we need to get back inside."  As they moved to go inside, Abby stepped in front of then grabbing Blythe's arm as she went.

"Let.  Go.  Of.  Her.  Now."  Came from a hard, steely voice by the trees.  Hazel's figure emerged from the shadows, and her expression even scared Kara, though she was not on the receiving end of it.

"Oh, and both the people with you need to emerge too, or I'll do more than just yell 'stranger danger'."  With those words, the other two figures emerged from behind the trees.

"Abby, I was not aware of your attendance, here at our High School.  Perhaps I can call and administrator and see if your paperwork was transferred?"  Abby no longer looked smug or content with what was going on.

"I don't know what you are pulling here, Hazel, but whatever you are, you are intruding on strict and classified business that does not concern you."

"Abby, I am not a 'whatever you are' and it most certainly does concern me, if it involves Blythe and Kara, then it is my business.  If you take them somewhere, then I would like to know where you are taking them.  And after you tell me where you are going to take them, you are going to let me come, or I will make sure you don't see the light of day again."  Rebuked Hazel.  Abby could tell this was getting out of hand, so she decided to step in.

"Guys, chill.  Please, Hazel.  It's okay."  The peacemaking came a bit too late, one of the other people with Abby and Courtney stepped forward and advanced on Hazel.

"You will not speak to the Chosens like that.  You are nothing, Human, nothing to a world you have no idea about."  With that, the guy launched himself at Hazel.  Without blinking an eye, Hazel sidestepped him sending him tumbling behind her.  Whisking around, she faced him again.

"I would be careful with whom you pick to fight.  You are looking for someone, and you cannot find her without my help.  You may have a little something, but don't forget, the Chosens will always have more."  The guy launched himself at Hazel again faster then any of them predicted, but Hazel was ready she hit him in the chest while in mid-air, and he fell back down to Earth.  He steadied himself again wiping the blood coming from his nose.

     "What are you?"  he growled.

     "Human."  Hazel answered.

     "There is no way."

     "Why not?"

"Because..."  The guy stopped in mid sentence and hobbled past Hazel with a weary glance at her before rejoining his friend.  Both groups looked at eachother with reproach.  Kara and Blythe looked absolutely terrified though they were beginning to understand what had happen.

"If these two want to come with you to your battle then I cannot stop them, but if they chose to go with you, then you will take me.  You are going to explain to them what will happen, or I will see that you never touch them again."  Hazel said in a calmer voice.
