Whispers of the Wolves

Two sets of four life long friends grow up in a seemingly normal life, until one day, things catch fire without a match, things move without being picked up, they can hear things miles away, and they see things that are never meant to be seen. Then one day a mysterious stranger comes telling them that they are destine to save the world that they grew up in, and the world that they belong to; one where the animals talk, mountians get up and move, and magic is everywhere. Given a quest to find the hidden Shifters, they go on a quest of a lifetime, learning more about themselves and the meaning of family as they battle dark demons, old wizards and witches gone bad, and their own mental challenges and friend ship challenges too.

16. Chapter 11 - Pieces to a puzzle

"It is the dim haze of mystery that adds enchantment to pursuit." - Antoine Rivarol

She had been right there.  Saving them.  Saving him.  Maybe there was still hope.  Taeron sat in his study cursing himself for not doing something.  He had just stood there, transfixed by WhiteFang as always.  Then there was this girl, a mortal, according to her Aura, who looked and seemed so much like WhiteFang.  Had she not been human, he would've said something more.  Alas, fate was not on his side.  At least the Four were still safe, for now.  The only huge act of war had been the Dark Lord herself striking the Dark Fire against the camp.  A soft knock came from the door.

"Enter."  His voice sounded tried, yet the door open tirelessly to admit Courtney and Abby.  Abby's eyes shone with wisdom beyond her age, while Courtney looked scared and insecure.  Standing, Taeron greeted them both formally before gesturing them to sit.

"You called for us, Taeron."  Nodding to Abby, he chose his next words carefully.

"WhiteFang came today to put out the Dark Fire.  After you arrived here."  Putting stress on the word 'after'.  Courtney jumped from her seat ready to defend herself.

"You thing we caused the fire?  You think we wanted this WhiteFang person to come and help?  Are you accusing us of something, Taeron?"  Questions of anger and confusion continued to spew from her mouth until Abby raised her hand to stop her.

"No."  Still sputtering, Courtney turned in disbelief.

"No.  Taeron suspects we have a connection to WhiteFang.  If anything, he thinks WhiteFang herself is protecting us."  Now that it had been started, it did seem more believable to her, uet Courtney was still not convinced.

"Why would WhiteFang protect us?  She knows we have you, the while camp, and many others to stand in the way of the Dark Lord.  So why protect us?"

"Because Courtney, I believe she knew you on a more...how do you phrase it....a more personal level."  Still confused, and prepared to blast even more questions, she began saying "but why?" But Taeron was not done yet and kept going with only a slight pause.

"Personal meaning you knew her, but you never knew her.  Or rather what she was."

"So WhiteFang was once one of our friends?"  Nodding Taeron confirmed it.

"We don't know.  I was trying to see if you had any idea as to who WhiteFang might be." Speaking up after a lapse of silence, Abby made both Courtney and Taeron jump.

"I think I may have an idea of who it might be."  Immediately, Taeron's head snapped up.  Cautiously, Abby began.

"In middle school, we had two other friends; Kara and Blythe.  They were special.  When I looked at them, there were no demons hunting them, but they were surrounded by light.  Could they have anything to do with WhiteFang?"  Taeron's had had begun shaking back and forth after the first few words.

"Well, you are right about one thing, Kara and Blythe are both part of the Magic Realm...the other half of the prophecy as you might say."  The words took a while to sink in, but when they did, Courtney had disbelief in her eyes once more.

"No, that's not possible, why are they always stealing my show?  They were always stealing my fame and popularity.  They cannot be part of the prophecy."

"Courtney, this is not something you can change.  Their fate and yours are intertwined forever, whether you like it or not.  They are something that will always be with you.  Yes, they are not people you want to work with, but they are people that will someday, save your life.  You cannot change destiny, but you can change yourself and your opinion just fine.  Tell me Courtney, are you allergic to change?"  Seeing that he was waiting for an answer, she shook her head not trusting herself to speak.

"Good, then it's settled.  Tomorrow you will begin your training, and then you will go and find Blythe and Kara, bring them to the field of their school so that we may talk with them.  Oh, and make sure that their friend Fang comes with them, there is something with her and a mystery that needs to be solved."  His words leaving no room to argue, they existed, and were met by two people, a boy and a girl.

"Hi, I'm Zach, and this is Miranda.  Welcome.  We will be your trainers for the next 3 days."
