Whispers of the Wolves

Two sets of four life long friends grow up in a seemingly normal life, until one day, things catch fire without a match, things move without being picked up, they can hear things miles away, and they see things that are never meant to be seen. Then one day a mysterious stranger comes telling them that they are destine to save the world that they grew up in, and the world that they belong to; one where the animals talk, mountians get up and move, and magic is everywhere. Given a quest to find the hidden Shifters, they go on a quest of a lifetime, learning more about themselves and the meaning of family as they battle dark demons, old wizards and witches gone bad, and their own mental challenges and friend ship challenges too.

5. Chapter 1 - The Beginning of the End

"The Love in our Family flows strong and deep, leaving us Memories to treasure and keep." - Anonymous

I pace along my den floor.  My coat gleams like new fallen snow, and my massive paws imprint the dirt below me.  My hearing is as sharp as it has been for a thousand years, but everything seems dull and incomprehensible.  It has been almost a year since the four were born and I have sensed the Evil on the move ever since.  I can only think of one solution to keeping them safe:  I would have to protect them from the outside Evil myself.  I wasn't too worried about another supernatural finding out that I was the comet unleasher, because I and all my were-animals knew how to disguise ourselves as regular humans, so nothing could detect what we were.  However, I was anticipating the fact that Taeron, the acting leader of the supernaturals would have the same idea of sending someone to keep an eye on the four too.

Padding paws came from my den entrance, and their scent filled my nose before I could even see them in the dimness.

Starlight Sonicflash  I greet them in my mind, and they greet me in return.  I shift into human form, and I feel the change as both of them do too.  As then enter, I hold both of their shoulders and greet them in the formality of the Shifters.

"To bind myself to you, is to give my soul to you, and my life to your own."  They reply with to me.

"And we hold your soul as you hold ours."  After formalities, we settle down to discuss what the best option is to take in the protection of the destine four.  Starlight, my most senior friends, and Beta, spoke up.

"As I've said before, I think we need to have you, WhiteFang, protect them yourself.  Unfortunately, that would leave us everyday without you."  I incline my head acknowledging what was said.

"Yes, but I'll still be connected to everyone, and you can call me whenever.  My first priority will forever be my pack.  We should also discuss this with the rest of the Shifters as well."  Starlight, as always, guided me with her wisdom.

"WhiteFang, all choices will lead to good or bad.  You lead us Shifters with so much loyalty, that we will follow you with any decision you make.  Plus, a good majority of us are still the original pack, so we know how you work.  Yes, you are loyal to your pack, but you are also so loyal to your friends.  Rely on us too, we have Bloodheart, the best military coordinator of the supernatural world, and Sharptooth will make sure none of us go hungry.  I'm your Beta, I can take over your duties while you're away.  We will not be run down if you leave us for the day."  I sighed.  Like many of us, Starlight has a gift other than Shifting.  She has the gift of the Sight.  She could see the direct outcome of any decision, and wan warn anyone if they are about to get hurt.

"Very well, I will take your word for it."  I turned to Sonicflash.

"Sonicflash, run to all the shifters and beckon the Alpha's.  We are to have a council meeting."  Shifting back to a russet brown wolf, Sonicflash hyper-sped out.

A/N  Alrighty!  Go ahead an comment, good or bad I take all!  Have a great day/night!
