3. Chapter 1 - Family ties (Mosskit)

Mosskit watched as Streamkit and Mallokit played warriors. Mallokit was pretending to be a Shadowclan warrior and Streamkit was a Riverclan warrior protecting the kits from Mallokit. The kits were only pebbles that their father Whitefang had found for them. “You’ll never get these kits!” yowled Streamkit, standing protectively in front of the pebbles barring her teeth at her brother.

“You can’t protect them forever.” Mallokit snarled.

    “Try me.” Streamkit snarled back.

Mallokit leapt on top of Streamkit and they rolled around on the ground in a ball of fur. They rolled over the pebbles and broke apart near the middle of camp; laughing and purring having completely forgot about the pebbles that lay spread around. I looked up at Murkywater, “Can we go play with them, please?” I asked. It looked like so much fun.

“No,” Murkywater mewed, “you are too young and I don’t want you or your sister to get hurt.”

Ugg! Always the same answer, ‘Mallokit and Streamkit are much bigger than you and can hurt you.’ or ‘Mallokit and Streamkit’s claws are sharp enough to put you in the medicine cat’s den, and then you wont be able to play at all.’ Why did Murkywater have to be so protective?

My tail dropped, I padded over and lay down next to my sister; Petalkit. I put my head between my paws and let out a sigh. Being a kit was hard. You always had to play by the nursery, you couldn’t play with the warriors unless they came over to play with you, the medicine cats den was off limits, and the elders only told you stories when they were sunning on the rocks and you asked them nicely. Those were mothers rules. Mallokit and Streamkit didn’t have to follow them, just Petalkit and me.

Petalkit was the good one she didn’t want to play rough games, she just wanted to go and hear a story from the Elders. Petalkit was quiet laying next to me, watching Mallokit and Streamkit play with little interest. I yawned, being a kit was hard work.

“Time for bed.” Said Murkywater

Petalkit got up and stretched out her legs before heading into the nursery. I stood up and followed her. Inside, the nursery was warm and smelled of milk. I realised how tired I was after walking around the camp; and a nice rest was all that I needed. I curled up next to Petalkit who was already snoring. Yawning one last I put my head down and waited for sleep to come.

A/N 9/28/15  Hey guys!  Sorry it's not done, we have all been really busy with our lives!  My friend will continue writing soon enough, even I'm dying to see what happens next!  Go ahead and hit that like button and comment!

A/N 9/29/15  Here's more to Chapter 1!

I awoke the next morning to find everyone in the nursery still asleep. I sat up and rubbed a paw over my face. Then I stood, stretched, and padded out into the morning light. The camp was silent, the only cat about was the medicine cat; Shimmerpool. I bounded over to her.

“Hello there little one.” She purred, “you're up early.”

“I couldn’t sleep!” I replied bouncing around Shimmerpool, “Where are you going? Are you going to collect herbs? Can I come?”

“Settle down little one,” Shimmerpool mewed with a twinkle of amusement in her eyes, “Yes, I am going out to collect herbs. And if you want to come with I’m sure your mother wouldn’t mind.”

I stopped bouncing and looked up at Shimmerpool, “Really I can come?”

“Of course you can come little one. I’ll go let Willowstar know now.”

Excitement surged through me as Shimmerpool padded toward Willowstar’s den. I was going to leave this boring camp! I was still with excitement, waiting for Shimmerpool to return. It seemed like a moon had passed by the time I saw Shimmerpool padding toward me. I sprang to my paws as she flicked her tail, ordering me to follow her. My paws shook as we neared the entrance to the camp. This was it. Freedom. I was ready to explore the world outside of the camp.

I padded after Shimmerpool into the camp entrance. All the smells of the marsh smashed into me, I stumbled a bit but kept on following Shimmerpool. All the sights were amazing. Everything was green and blowing in the wind. There were so many colors, so many things to see, and smell. It was all amazing. I followed Shimmerpool to a patch of grass that lay not far from the camp. There was a small stream flowing a little ways off.

A/N 10/01/15  Alright here's another little snip of Chapter 1!

“Be careful now,” Shimmerpool mewed, as I rushed up to the stream, “It may look small but it can sweep away a kit like yourself with ease.”

I took a few paces back and gazed at the little stream. How could something so little carry away a huge kit like me? I am bigger than Petalkit. I took one last look at the stream then turned away and followed Shimmerpool to a patch of sweet smelling grass.

“What is it?” I asked wanting to roll in the grass.

“This is catmint.” replied Shimmerpool, “it cures green cough.”

Shimmerpool padded forward and grabbed a mouthful. “Get as much as you can carry. We need to collect as much as we can before the frost ruins them.”

I padded toward the catmint, stooped down, and picked up a mouthful. It tasted as sweet as it smelled, but I didn’t hold it too tightly. The clan needed the catmint. Once Shimmerpool and I had gathered as much as our jaws could carry we headed back to camp. My first time out of camp had been perfect.
