We Are All Mad

Dreams and reality can't become one, unless you somehow could control when you fall asleep and wake up. But can you tell the difference between what is real and what is all in your head? Could there be somewhere so dark, so twisted, yet so real that it can make you think it's actually happening?

For this story I believe I'm going to enter it into the fan fiction competition if I finish in time...probably won't but I'm gonna try my best to update and make chapters long. This is a Wonderland spin off and I hope you enjoy it. It would be awesome if you 1could leave a like and/or a favorite! Thanks for reading!

6. The Road

Oliver watched as Alice hugged Jack goodbye after exchanging a couple of words quietly so Oliver wouldn't hear. Finally they parted and Alice threw a bag over her shoulder and stood next to Oliver, staring into the forest. "He should be in Wonderland considering you're here, but we can't let him get close to you or give him any ideas that you're for sell." She began to walk and Oliver kept pace with her.

"He also speaks in riddles or rhymes so we have to listen closely, plus keep our eyes open. He can make us see things that aren't really there and trick us." She informed him as they walked.

"Why does he do all of this? Why does he want me?" Oliver questioned as he watched the blue sky disappear and be replaced by dark green leaves and large colorful mushrooms.

"Because you're the only one that can travel between worlds. He gets his power from people like us...you by drinking your blood. Almost like a vampire, but he doesn't drink it from your neck, he tortures you and keeps you hostage so any time he needs you he just cuts something open and makes tea out of the blood." Alice shivered from the memory and Oliver stared shocked ahead of them.

"He'll cut anywhere?"

Alice looked at him and with a serious face answered, "anywhere." She began to chuckle and Oliver gulped.

"That's not funny, Alice!" He exclaimed and she just laughed more and hit his arm.

"Don't be such a wuss, I'll keep you safe." Her eyes wandered off slowly, "maybe..." Her eyes shot back to Oliver to see him pouting.

"Not funny." He mumbled. Alice just laughed again as they walked along the dirt path, it was beginning to get darker and Oliver jumped from every small sound.

He looked over his shoulder as they walked, "what do you have as a weapon? Like if something, like a bear, came at us?"

Alice chuckled, "don't worry about it." Alice glanced at him, knowing if she told him she only had a knife he'd freak out and try to go back.

An owl flew by above them, they couldn't see it but they heard it. The trees began to spread out a little more after what seemed like hours of walking in darkness. Oliver groaned in annoyance as he tripped and fell to the ground. He turned to see he tripped over a rock the size of his palm. "Dammit! Don't you have a flashlight or something?!" Alice helped him upslowly then paused and smiled.

"I have something." She took the bag off her shoulders and pulled out a lantern, but it wasn't a lantern, it had little bugs inside. Alice shook the jar thing around and the bugs began flying around inside it, their butts lit up also lighting up the area around Oliver and Alice.

As Oliver watched he saw a long scar riding up Alice's arm. He grabbed her arm and pulled her close so he could see it. She stumbled towards him and laughed nervously. "What are you doing?" She asked as Oliver examined the raised skin on her arm.

"Did you do this?" He asked then looked at her other arm.

She shook her head slowly then pulled her arm away and held the light over her arm so he could see. "The Mad Hatter got to me..." She stared at her arm, remembering those 3 nights she was there. The memories coming back like a gunshot to the head and it hurt, terribly hurt. She turned and began walking, Oliver hurried after her.

"How did you get free?" He asked amused.

She avoided the question, "I'll tell you another time." Oliver frowned and kept pace with Alice as they walked.

It seemed like days since they had left the little cottage. The setting sun was hidden behind the hills and the two moons shown to the North and West, Oliver stared in awe at the mixed colors above their heads. In the distance he could see a castle and after that; mountain after mountain. An ocean to the East, so blue it looked more blue than the sky ever did.

"I've never seen anything like this..." Oliver stared up at the sky as they walked. Alice kept her eyes ahead of her.

"It's always like this, nothing has changed." She mumbles under her breath then slows down as they come closer to another canopy of trees. "We should rest here." She goes over to one of the dark twisted trees and sits under it, leaning against the stump. Oliver does the same next to her.

"When will you tell me what happened to you?" He questions, looking at her suspiciously.

"Nothing to tell." She simply says then rests her head against the tree and closes her eyes.

He sighs and twiddles his thumbs, "you can tell me anything, you know that. Right?"

She groans and laughs slightly, "you're pretty nosy."

He chuckles then frowns, "I'm only trying to help." Alice just shrugs then opens her eyes and stares into the dark of the woods. The sun began to fade away and was replaced with the light of the moons and stars. Oliver dozed off and slept quietly against the tree, he made soft whimpers every once in a while.

Alice stared into the dark, making out the shape of the trees and the bushes. A light breeze picked up every so often, causing the leaves to rustle and make Alice a little... Uneasy. Every movement she saw she stayed still and stared at that same spot for more than a few seconds, just to be sure.

We can't be too careful now that the Queen of Hearts knows Oliver is here. They have never met of course because if they had than Oliver would not be here today. Maybe it's my fault he is here, maybe I made him come here because I've some how been entering his dreams... Or maybe he has been entering mine? How do I save him from all of this?

The more questions she asked herself the more confused she got. She continued to blame herself. A breeze picked up once more, bringing the smell of cotton with it, Alice shot back from her deep thoughts and stood up quickly. Her eyes darted around the small clearing. The breeze stopped but the smell stayed. She kicked Oliver's foot and he mumbled.

"Oliver, we need to leave. Get up now." She whispered as she looked around the clearing, she didn't blink; too scared something might grab them... He might grab them. She kicked him once more. "Oliver!" She raised her voice as she looked at Oliver, then a sharp pain dug through her stomach and she flew across the clearing, stopping abruptly as she hit a tree.

Oliver jumped up, his eyes wide as he looked around to see Alice laying on the ground across from him. "Alice? What happened?" He started to run over to where she was but as he reached her a pain grew in his hip and he was flung back to the other side.

Alice watched in terror as her big brother was thrown away from her. She tried to lift herself up but was shoved back down by her shoulder. She looked down to see her shirt over her stomach and her shoulder were covered in blood, a sharp pain hit her stomach once more and she let out a scream.

Big blue eyes glowed bright abover her and her breath caught, her neck being squeezed. "Hello, little mouse. I've been looking everywhere for you."
