We Are All Mad

Dreams and reality can't become one, unless you somehow could control when you fall asleep and wake up. But can you tell the difference between what is real and what is all in your head? Could there be somewhere so dark, so twisted, yet so real that it can make you think it's actually happening?

For this story I believe I'm going to enter it into the fan fiction competition if I finish in time...probably won't but I'm gonna try my best to update and make chapters long. This is a Wonderland spin off and I hope you enjoy it. It would be awesome if you 1could leave a like and/or a favorite! Thanks for reading!

5. Just A Dream

They sat their in the grass, talking things over as Jack stood at the window and watched. His hands rested on the counter as he stared at the two people sitting outside his house. This was the day he dreaded the most, he couldn't bare letting her go, but he had to. He had raised her from the age of 7, she tends to disappear every now and then but she always comes back.

His nose twitched and he turned around to look at the small black, framed photo on the wall. A long table with a tea set in the middle and his friends and him sitting around it, smiling, being happy. This was before the Red Queen had taken over, unfortunately she had taken his friends under her shadow. They were no longer the same, they became mad.

His eyes landed on the Mad Hatter, his chest was aching from the thought of his friend being lost. He knew what Alice and Oliver must do, but he didn't want Alice to be hurt by him. And he would hurt her, very, very badly.

Alice watched as Oliver took in what she had told him. His eyes staring blankly at the ground with his hands propping himself up. "W-what happened?" He questioned as his blue eyes finally met hers.

"That day I was taken, I was tossed in a car and taken to a place in Tennessee and was stuck in a basement. He fed me and kept me safe but he never let me out for anything. He just told me I was special and was meant to be kept safe and he would protect me." She got chills from the memory of all those nights stuck in the cold basement.

"How did you get out?" She stared at him for a moment and thought for a moment about how to answer.

"I haven't, I'm still there." Oliver smiled as his heart leaped for joy and he stood up.

"We can find you now! We can go and get you! You'll be safe again! Mom and dad will be so happy!" He cheered and grabbed her hands to pull her up. She watched in dismay then clasped her hands together once she was up.

"Oliver... I can't be saved..." Oliver stopped and stared at her confused.

"What do you mean?"

She hesitated and fiddled with her thumbs. "I... I have been down there for a long time... The man was supposed to feed me everyday. But for some reason he stopped showing up. 2 days turned into 3, then 4, then 7, then 10." Olivier's heart shattered into pieces in his chest as he watched her. She glanced up at him, "Oliver... I'm-"

Before she could finish Jack came hopping out quickly and over to her. "I know what you must do now! But I must warn you, it's a most difficult task and a very dangerous one..."

Oliver couldn't bare to hear those last words so he didn't bother to ask her to continue. He didn't want to believe what she was telling him, it couldn't be true. If it were she wouldn't be here, correct? This is all just a dream, it couldn't be real. He wouldn't let it.

"The Mad Hatter may know what's happening, I'm afraid you will have to go see him." Jack said.

"But where is he? And...I don't know anything about him or anything about this world or your so-called dimension. How am I supposed to do it?" Oliver shrugged. He was still confused but the melancholy feelings were slowly taking him under its arms. He was still unaware whether what he heard was real or if it was just another shitty dream which seemed to be real like all his others. He was confused and that confusion was giving rise to many emotions like rage, anger, sadness, and most of all...all of them.

"The Mad Hatter is a powerful magician. He is a dangerous man indeed but ultimately clever. He is the first one to find the flaws in the dimensional world's system and he travels through them. He is also the most notorious magician you may have ever seen or may have to see. He is like a dog, you feed him a biscuit and then he brings you the cat. That's all. No one knows that in which world he might be now, he might be in your real world, fidgeting with an ice-cream parlor or he may be in any other world making his own hut to stay. He is insane. He will surely try to manipulate your mind if you chase him closely and so I advise you to keep a safe distance. Always." Jack explained him more briefly rather than going into the details.

Oliver just stared at him blankly, nothing was being stuffed in his mind. His thoughts were scratching him from inside and he felt weak, much weaker than anything. The thought of Alice being... not alive was more forceful than his dad's punch. Sorry, Derek's  punch. He kept staring at the ground. The silence grew more and more tense.

"Oliver, will you do it? He is the only one who has all the answers of your questions. He is the only person who can solve your problem and vanish your confusions. There is no other choice." This time it was Alice.

"What if he doesn't help?" Oliver questions, his eyes closed as he took in a breath.

"As I told you, Oliver. The Mad Hatter is a dog, you feed him, he repays."

Oliver didn't laugh or even chuckled. He just kept staring at something which was called ground in this dimension, but it wasn't. It seemed like mist, like a fog but not a fog. It was blur but not so much. The dust seemed to be arising from the ground but again settling on it. Even though there was dust, the grass was popping green.

"I don't know what to do."

"I just told you what you have to do." Jack said.

"Where can I find him?"

"You don't have to go find him, he's already looking for you." Jack said.

"But why? What does he want?"

Jack chuckled.

"He wants you."
