1. The Thirteen Colonies

Many colonists united in seeking independence from Great Britain because of restricted land use, the blocking of Boston Harbor, and of unfair taxes. The French and Indian War was the first cause of the Revolutionary War. It was a war between England and the American colonies, against the French and some of the Indians in North America. The British forced the colonies to help pay for the war. That began the Revolutionary War.

One reason is because of restricted land use. In Document 1, it states the Proclamation Line of 1763. It shows the line that separates the Thirteen Colonies from Indian reserves. This made many colonists angry at Great Britain because it forced them out of their homes.

Another reason is because of the blocking of Boston Harbor. In Document 2, it states, "The bill for blocking up the harbor of Boston is replete [filled] with injustice and cruelty..." This proves that the colonists are treated poorly because Britain did this. In Document 3, it states, "The town of Boston is burning behind them." This also proves that Boston is treated poorly because of the Boston Harbor being closed.

The final reason is because of unfair taxes. In Document 4, it states, "The history of the present KIng of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries...all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States." This proves generally that unfair taxes are just one out of many crimes Britain had done to the colonists.

Many Americans were treated harshly by the British. Restricted land use, the blocking of Boston Harbor, and unfair taxes are just a few examples out of much more examples of what Britain had done to the American colonists.
