7. The Week Before Christmas 🎅🏻🎄🎁

A/N: Hello everyone! How are you? Today I am going to update this story, so... I hope you like it! Also, please comment if you would like me to write another one... :3 This is a really long chapter, so...

Krista's POV

I groan at my alarm clock, exhausted from last night. I immediately text Natalie, typing:

Are you alright? :3

I begin getting ready for school, wearing a tight pair of black skinny jeans and a festive jumper. Christmas break started tomorrow, and today I was caroling in the halls with the rest of the Select Choir.

I lace up my black and white converse before grabbing my phone and heading downstairs.

"Merry last day of school before Christmas break!" My mom squeals, and I smile at her. She hands me a waffle wrapped in a napkin for me to eat on the bus ride.

I say thanks and kiss her on the cheek before walking out the front door with my heavy backpack and up the street towards the bus stop.

Once I get to school, I look around for Mikey, but I can't see him. I shrug it off and make my way to the chorus room to check in. I would see him sometime.

Mrs. Herron, the choir director, was talking to Mr. Mamel, the band director, about the band playing with us as we carol. I spot Eva and Sofie, who appeared to be arguing.

Shirley, Justin, and Aleisha are obsessing over some anime I haven't watched yet, and there are a at least fifty more kids in the choir room.

I walk to Eva and Sofie, frowning.

"What's wrong with you two?" I ask.

"Sofie decided it was a good idea to have a SLEEPOVER with a guy she just MET!!!" Eva whisper-screamed.

Sofie shrugs, her hazel eyes bright. "We didn't do anything bad..."

"BUT STILL!!! You were making out with a guy you JUST MET!" Eva groans, her green eyes looking tired.

"Shush, you two. This is the last time we are caroling at this school. Do you guys want to remember it as a great time, or a bad one?" I pause. "Stop arguing! Eva, you aren't her mother, even though I do agree she shouldn't have down what she did. And Sofie, don't sleep over with boys you just met!"

Eva nods, lowering her eyes. "Sorry Sofie."

Sofie nods, sighing. "I'm sorry too, but I just... Luke and I have been dating for a few months now..."

Eva's eyes almost pop out of her head. "WHAT?"

"Why were you keeping it a secret?" I ask, surprised. "You know you can tell us anything."

Sofie shakes her head. "I did it for Natalie. I didn't want her to know because it's obvious that she likes Luke too..." She takes a moment to swallow, before groaning. "I've caused so much trouble, because of it. But Luke just had to kiss me, didn't he?!"

I opened my mouth to respond, but I was cut off by Mrs. Herron telling us to stand in concert position.

I shake my head and walk to the Alto section, where Eva joins me.

We warm up by singing scales, and then we go off to sing.

By the end of the day, I was very jolly and happy. I only had to be in 20 minutes of each class, because I had to carol. Mikey watched me every single time, his beautiful blue eyes shining with happiness.

Once the final bell rings, I find Ava Deanto and Mikey, and we head to Mikey's house, where Ashton would meet us.

Mikey and I walk hand in hand, while Ava keeps on trying to be the third wheel by pushing us apart and standing in the middle of us, grabbing our hands and grinning. Mikey just rolls his eyes at her antics, while I kick her in the shin.

Ashton is there already when we reach Mikey's house, standing next to his push bike.

"Hey Ashton." I smile and wave. Ashton waves back, as Ava walks towards him, her blue eyes bright.

"Hi, I'm Ava." Ava introduces herself, while playing with the ends of her thick, dirty blond hair. Her head only reaches Ashton's shoulder, which was no surprise. She had always been on the small side.

"Hi, Ava. I'm Ashton." He pauses, before adding, "Are you a volcano? Because I lava you."

Michael and I begin cracking up, while Ava blushes and loudly exclaims, "It may not be good, but it works for me."

After Mikey finishes his fit of laughter, Ashton and Ava head inside.

I am about to follow them when Mikey grabs my arm to hold me back. I spin my head around, cocking an eyebrow.

"What is it?" I ask curiously.

"I just wanted us to have a minute to ourselves." Mikey explains.

Suddenly, he puts one hand behind my neck and pulls me towards him. And then we're kissing . His lips are soft and leave mine tingling. I feel like I am soaring in the clouds. His other hand pushes hair out of my face, and in that moment- however long it lasts, I realize that what we have is perfect, and no one can ever take that away from us.

I lean backwards after the kiss, my blue eyes gazing up into his.

Ava and Ashton sat inside on the sofa, the two of them getting along like old friends. For some reason, I knew they would. They both were extremely charismatic people, and they lit up the world around them.

But when no one was around, they still had their secrets and insecurities.

"So, what do you guys want to do?" I ask as I sit on the couch next to Mikey, to which Ava immediately replies,

"Christmas movies!"

Ashton giggles at her.

"Which one first?" Mikey asks.

"RUDOLPH!!!" Ashton and Ava answer at the same time. I can't help but laugh.

After about four different Christmas movies, Ashton and Ava seemed like two peas in a pod. They would not stop talking.

I was drifting in and out of sleep, cuddled up close to Mikey. Every once and a while, he would stroke my hair, and wrap his arms around me protectively.

I hear Mikey's phone ring, and he immediately picks up.

"Hey, Luke- wait, slow down, what's wrong?"

Almost immediately, my phone begins ringing too. I pull it out, hitting the answer button before even looking at who it was.

"Krista, Sofie's hurt!" Eva's voice comes through the speaker, yet it sounds so much softer and scared than her usual voice. A rock of dread forms in my stomach, as Ava's phone rings.

"Natalie- wait, Sofie got in a car accident? Is she okay?" Ava answers the call.

"What happened?" I ask sharply.

"Well, some car hit her car... She was driving to see L-Luke." Eva explains, her voice wavering. "Luke found her c-car, he was worried, she wasn't answering her phone, he was going to her house to check on her..." Eva's voice dwindles. "It's really bad."

"What hospital are you at?" I ask, and when she answers, I hang up, feeling sick to my stomach. A few tears have escaped my eyes, but I wipe them away hastily.

Mikey hung up with Luke, and he looked over to me, his eyes full of sorrow.

"I'm so sorry-" He began, but I cut him off.

"We're going to the hospital. Can you drive?"

Ava and I race through the hospital halls, our festive jumpers not seeming very festive anymore. Mikey and Ashton follow us closely.

We burst onto the waiting room, where Luke, Eva, and Natalie sat. They all lift their heads, except for Luke.

"She's still conscious in the Emergency Room. Her parents are with her." Natalie quietly explains, her bright blue eyes filled to the brim with tears.

Eva looks up at me, sobbing, yet she still smiles and says, "At least she'll be with people s-she loves...."

I rush to her side and wrap my arms around her, and she cries for a long while.

That's the way Eva has always been. Even though sometimes she is a bit prickly, (A/N: Its just a part of the story!) she always try to stay positive about situations that are anything but.

Michael and Ashton approach Luke, put he just shoved them away and buries himself in his sweatshirt.

After a little bit, a Nurse arrives.

"Are you her friends?" She asks, and we all nod. The nurse briskly says, "Well, we have told her no about a thousand times, but she is insistent upon it and so are her parents." She pauses, taking a deep breath.

"Kids, she's going into surgery, and there is a good chance that she might die." She groans at her words. "I'm sorry for being so morbid. She wants to say goodbye to you all before she goes into surgery. Just in case. Only because her parents won't sign the papers for the surgery until... You know."

Eva's eyes spark, and she stands, grasping my hand in her left and Luke's in her right. She yanks him upwards.

"Stop being such a grumpy ass, Luke. Your girlfriend might live. Stay strong."

The nurse leads all of us out of the waiting room and down a couple of floors, where we reach the ER.

"What you are about to see might be disturbing to you." The nurse comments, before we all rush into the room.

I hope I never have to see anything like that ever again.

I cannot describe it in words.

"There's... So much blood..." Eva whispers into my ear, before gripping my wrist hard.

There lay Sofie, with her wavy blonde hair confined into a surgery cap. Her hazel eyes dart back and forth, like a small, fragile animal that was being hunt down. Her freckled cheeks were also spattered with hardened scarlet drops.

Natalie looks away, looking ill. Luke's beautiful blue eyes look broken as he rushes to the side of the stretcher. He wasn't phased at all. Maybe because he had seen her like this on the road.

They rest of us approach slowly, like we're scared to make any sudden movements.

"You all came..." Sofie exclaims, her voice cracking.

I glance down at her torso, but I look away almost immediately. It was too horrible.

"I'm not in any pain..." Sofie explains, tears rolling down her cheeks. "Everything's numb."

The doctors look at us, pity in their eyes.

"We're sorry to have to say this, but please hurry up so we can try to save her." The nurse requests, and I nod.

Luke steps to the side, not once taking his eyes off of hers.

I step forward, grabbing one of her mangled hands in mine.

"Sofie..." I start, the tears pooling in my eyes.

"I'll see you after the surgery, alright? And if I don't, you... You are such an amazing person, and I am gifted to have you in my life." I let out a sob. "I'll miss you!"

Sofie smiles. "I'll see you later, Krista."

Eva steps to Sofie, and I step backwards, my legs feeling weak.

"Sofie, you're my best friend, and you always have been. I know we've had our bad days, but we always rebound and-"

The heart monitor begins to beep rapidly, and the doctors rush to Sofie.

"We need to take her into surgery now. Move!"

The nurses shove us backwards, but Luke fights against them.

"No! Sofie! I love you!" Luke screams, and she turns her head to gaze at him.

"I love you too... I love you all..." She says weakly, and then she is wheeled out.

Before I know it, my knees give out, and I am on the ground.

A/N: Hey everybody! So, what's going to happen to Sofie? And everyone around her? So... I know that the events in this chapter are unrealistic, but I tried my best... I hope you liked it!!! Have a great day!
