Fallen Angel

2. One

His hair was a light color, not exactly fully blonde. He was so beautiful-- I couldn't take my eyes off of him. I always saw him, but I didn't know who he was nor his name. For some reason, I always saw him get shot, and his blood would stain his white shirt, the red spreading across his chest as if he spilled a glass of wine on himself. He would bring up a hand to his chest and it came away bloodied, his eyes showing fright. When his knees gave in he looked like an angel-- a fallen angel-- graceful, scared for his life that he would lose in a matter of seconds. He reached a hand out for me, his lips silently formed the words "help me". But I couldn't move. As much as I wanted to help him, my feet wouldn't move toward him. Suddenly, the ground beneath me would open up and I would fall into the darkness, grasping at empty air. I woke up in a cold sweat, my blonde hair sticking to my forehead. I had the dream again. I've been having this dream for a while now. I didn't even remember when it started. Just like every morning I pushed the dream out of my mind and went to splash cold water on my face. I leaned against the sink and took a deep breath. Today will be another hot summer day at work. I checked my phone and got a glimpse of the time. It was already seven thirty, which meant I was an hour late! I quickly washed up, pulled on my clothes and left the house. I didn't have time for breakfast. There was no way I was going to be even more late. ------------------- "Robin, you're late," Jason, the manager of the pizza parlor, said when I came in. "I know," I replied. "I'm sorry." "It's alright this time. Just hurry and take the customers. I shouldn't be working for you." Jason was a very nice guy. But if you didn't come on time he got a bit edgy. I went to put on my apron and went to the service area to take orders. "Morning, Robin," Kayla, one of my co-workers, said to me when I stepped up to the register. "Hey," I said. "You had the dream again, didn't you?" Kayla was one of the two who knew about the dreams. "Yeah," I confessed. "They're so annoying, especially when I don't understand what they mean." "Maybe they don't mean anything," she suggested. "That happens sometimes. It might end soon." Just then the doorbell rang, letting us know we have a customer. The guy was about 5'7", had blond hair and a pale complexion. He had tattoos covering both arms and beautiful green eyes. He looked tough. And for some reason he looked very familiar to me. It was like I knew him from somewhere, but I just couldn't put my finger on it. He went to sit at an empty table. Kayla went to take his order. "Hi, welcome to Tony's," I heard Kayla say. "How can I help you?" She began to write down his order on a notepad and said,"Alright, so that's a cheeseburger deluxe with a side of fries, one slice of pepperoni pizza, and one lemon iced tea, right?" After a small pause Kayla said, "Okay if you can only give me a few minutes." I loved the way she talked to customers so smoothly. I couldn't even make my fake smiles seem not strained. But the guy didn't smile back. Not once. He just kept a straight face Kayla went to give the order to the kitchen. Kayla asked, "Are you okay?" "Yeah, why wouldn't I be?" I questioned. "I don't know. You looked confused since he came in. Do you know him?" "I don't know. He looks so familiar." "Hey, didn't you say the guy in your dreams was blond and had tattoo sleeves?" Kayla said. "Yeah," I answered. "Maybe that's where you saw him." I thought that over in my head. Could it be? No, it couldn't.... Could it? "I don't know," I said. ------------------ As I walked into the diner the bell jingled above my head. It was six thirty in the evening and I came to start my second two-hour shift of the day. It was the middle of October and it was getting chilly. I was happy to be consumed by the warm arm of the diner and to see more customers when I walked in. "Hey, Robin," Adam, another one of my co-workers, said. "Hi," I replied. "How's it going?" "Good. And you?" "I'm fine. We have more customers today, huh?" "Yeah. This should happen more often. Who needs waiting?" "No one so far. Harry and I waited on everyone before he left five minutes ago," Adam said. I leaned against the counter, letting the sound of chatter and the music playing softly flow into my ears. I started humming softly to the lyrics of Sweater Weather. Right now most college students were probably doing something fun and entertaining, and I was just working at a diner where I almost had no work. I didn't get paid much, and I really needed the money. The truth was I had nowhere else to work. This was the only place that was willing to take on someone other than a janitor and I already had a job during the weekend. I've been working my ass off with two jobs and college during the daytime. I barely had time to study except for the weekends. It was hard. My dad and I were the only ones working, holding up a family of four. My mom quit her job when I was in first grade because I didn't see her as often. Now I don't see her as often once again because of my double jobs and college, and she still doesn't want to get a job. My dad and I pushed her to get a job, but she wouldn't budge. Just then the doorbell jingled. It was the guy from earlier today, the one with the tattoos and blondish hair. He sat at the bar, for there were no other seats available. "I got this one," I told Adam. I walked over to the guy with my pen and notepad. "Hello, may I take your order?" I ask him. "Can I get fried wings, french fries, a cheeseburger, and a beer please?" he ordered. "Sure thing, coming right up." I walked to the kitchen window and handed one of the cooks the paper I wrote the order on. The cooks got right to work. I couldn't help but stare at the blond as I went back to stand by Adam. "Is something wrong?" Adam asked. "No," I replied. "You know, that guy over there looks a lot like the guy in your dreams." Adam was the other one of the two who knew about my strange dreams. "Kayal told me the same thing." "So what do you think?" "I don't know." ------------ Hi, guys! I promise this will get better! Please leave a comment on what you think of this so far! Sophia
