They took over like it was nothing. Starting with the major cities, and then moving out to take the rest of the land. We didn't even see it coming, there was no warning, nothing. They took me, hurt me, did things that I can't even explain. I am different, their new weapon. They want to turn me against my own country, my family, my friends. I am the first of a new kind. I am Enhanced.

1. Run Away With me

"Run away with me." James said. He looked so serious, it came across as a little crazy.

I laughed playfully, and gave him a little shove on the shoulder. He didn't look very pleased with my reaction, in fact he looked a little mad. I straightened my face out. "You can't be serious babe." I said turning to completely face him now.

"I am dead serious. We need to get out of this town, I can't stay here for the rest of my life. I need to do something, make a difference, but I can't do that without you." He said grabbing hold of both of my hands.

"James..." I said holding a pause trying to think of the right thing to say, because I knew what I wanted to say was nothing close to what he wanted to hear from me.

"Don't James me. Lets do it! Let's get out of here!" He said sounding more enthusiastic with every word.

"I can't just leave my family, my mom, dad, little brother.. They need me, and I still need them." I said, the look of enthusiasm left his face almost in an instant. I could feel the tension in the room building with every second that went by, and it was unsettling. I got up from the bed, and walked to the window. Looking out the open window I could see the garage roof, and the ladder that was sitting just at the top of the garage roof. We normally used to get up, and down from his room, it saved waking up his parents.

"Where are you going?" He asked sounding a little more aggressive with me.

"Let me think about this." I said. I didn't want to disappoint him, but there was just too much here for me to let go. The little town I lived in was home to 1000 people. I knew mostly everyone, my family was quite popular in this town.

"I didn't think you would be the one to let me down like this." He said, and then I took a step out of the window, and onto the garage roof. I turned around, "I love you." I said, and then turned around to take another step. Before I could even think, I was falling through the roof. I felt my feet leave from underneath me, and then my body thud. I could hear my body hit the ground better than I could feel it. Everything went fuzzy, and than I heard the gun shots.

"Hunter!!! Baby, don't move I'll be right there." I heard James yell down at me, and than everything went black.

When I woke up I was laying in what looked like the town hall, but full of hundreds of people laying on the floor on sleeping bags. It didn't look like anyone else was up, I looked in front of me, and there was a little boy. I recognized him, he was my neighbors youngest 4 years old I think. His name was Brock. He was one of the cutest kids that I have ever seen. Curly black hair, but blue eyes, just a face that could melt your heart. I went to get up, and he motioned for me to lay back down.

Before I could lay my head back down on the pillow, whistles, and horns were going off. Men in green suits were yelling at the top of their lungs, the people on the floor didn't hesitate to get up. They started to get ready, putting on coats, and doing up their shoes.

I looked to my left, and their on the floor was a coat, and a set of socks, and boots lying beside me. I started to stand up, and put the coat on, the little boy way doing the same. By now most of the people were standing along the wall, as if they knew exactly what to do. The little boy having troubles tying his shoes.

"Are you retarded? Do you not know how to tie your shoes?" A man wearing the green uniform yelled at the little boy. I could tell that it startled him.

"Get away from him!" I yelled grabbing the man's shoulder. He didn't hesitate,  he turned, and with one swift motion his hand hit me in the face. My head whipped in the direction of the blow. I could feel the blood start to rush to my cheek.

"You speak when you are spoken to. Help this boy tie his shoes, and fall in the line up, you have one minute." He said smirking at me as he walked away. I knelt down, and started to help the boy tie his shoes.

"Are you okay Hunter?" The little boy asked still looking scared. I nodded my hand.

"Come with me Brock." I said grabbing his little hand, and walking over to the line up with him.

"I'm Sorry." The little boy said, looking guilty.

"No, it's not your fault, where are your parents?" I asked. Starting to wonder where mine were.

"They took them." He said. I was confused, none of this was making any sense.

"Okay, well you stay with me, and I will keep you safe okay?" I said making dead eye contact with him. He nodded.

"Don't leave my side, you understand?" I said in a calm tone, trying to keep him calm.

"I understand Hunter." He said, and then he clinged to my hip.

They started to pick people out of the line up, and send them to a door in the back. The man that had hit me in the face walked right in front of me. "Why don't you take this one to, I have a feeling she will be nothing but trouble." He said looking at the other guards, and then another man came and pulled me out of the line up. I started to fight it, and was his in the stomach. I was gagging, but I had nothing in my system to throw up.

"Hunter!" Brock yelled running from the line up. A man grabbed him before he could run off. He was a sweet old man that lived two blocks down from me. He looked at me as if he felt sorry for me, and gave me a nod. I looked at him, and mouthed, "Thank you." He gave me a smile, the little boy still fighting to get out of the man's grip. "Brock it's going to be okay, stay with that man." I said. He didn't stop trying to get free, and then I was shoved into the back room. It was a hallway with a series of doors on the right side. I was pushed to the last door before the end of the hallway. He threw me in the room, and I banged on the door, but there was no use, there was  no way that I was going to get out.

"Hunter?" I heard a familiar voice say.

"Jesse?" I asked turning around.

Sure enough there he was, James's brother. I have never been so happy to see him in my entire life.
