Be Real

Inspired by a youth event at my church called Be Real.

1. Be Open, Be Real

Behind me, a mess

In front, a blank page.

Behind me, confusion

In front, the unknown.

Should I continue to pretend

Or shall I start anew?

Be true to myself

Be open, be real.

Facades are well and good

But their maintenance is exhausting

And it would be easier

To be open, to be real.

Support from family and friends

Guidance from on high

Emerging from a self-constructed hermitage

Deciding to be open, to be real.

Can't hide, can't cower away forever

One day you'll have to return

And when it happens

Embrace vulnerability and it's liberating reality.
