The cake was in the oven and Maureen was about to take it out to put in the shepherds pie.

“Wait said Jackie, have you got any cheddar cheese? Okay then mix about and ounce of grated cheese in with your potato then pipe it on top of the mince. I assure you that Mr Langley notices the difference.”

“Well if the cake with your suggestion of adding half a cup of coffee to the mix works then we are in business.”

Maureen took out the grater; then grated the cheese and then spooned it into the mashed potato. Then it was mixed and then added to a piping bag and layered on top of the mince carrots and onion and put into the oven until the potato was golden brown.

It was just after six when Mike Langley returned from work carrying a brief case.

“Hello love; had a good day?

“Yes Jackie and I have been cooking.”

“Did you try his pie?

“Yes we finished it off at lunch time; it was very good.”

“Is there any news love?

“Yes, they are coming to pick Jackie up at nine o’clock in the morning.”

“Where is he going?

“He’s going to Oakridge children’s home.”

“We have got to tell him.”

“Jackie would you come in here a moment please?”

“Jackie came into the kitchen rather sheepishly and said; “I’m leaving tomorrow right?

“Yes they are taking you to Oakridge Children’s home.

“Will you come and visit?

Of course we will won’t we Mike?

“Yes we will.”

“Anyway let’s have our tea and a nice slice of chocolate cake for afters.” what do you say?

“Yes thank you.”

“You could help me set the table if you like Jackie.”

“Yes Mrs Langley.

Jackie took the plates out and put them on the table then set out the knives and forks

Mike took out the napkins and placed them around each plate.

Maureen carried the dish and placed it in the middle of the table on a place mat then got the serving spoon and began to fill the plates.

“Smell nice love.”

Maureen passed her husband the plate and then filled Jackie’s and her own.

She winked at Jackie as her husband tasted the food.

What’s in this Maureen; the potatoes are lovely?

“Jackie asked me to grate some cheese into the potato.
