Debbie opened the door to the upstairs flat and walked up the stairs; Robin caught a glimpse of her suspender belt under her dress as she moved her hips from side to side.

Anne has gone to bed said Debbie as she led him to her bedroom and closed the door.

Robin left around six o’clock in the morning; he didn’t wake Debbie and slipped out silently without a sound.

He walked up the road until he reached a phone box then called himself another taxi to take him back to the guest house. The old lady was making breakfast as he went to his room so he washed and changed before coming back down into the dining room.

“Good morning Mr McNally will you be having the full English again?

“Yes please I’m a bit hungry this morning and I have a long day ahead of me.”

“I won’t be long she said with a smile. “ Help your self to some tea or coffee.”

Robin got himself a cup of black coffee to wake him up. The paper had been delivered and he scanned it.

On the second page there was a photo of Bob Close holding up a pair of knickers; with the headline: Police Sergeant Draws A Blank. The emphasis on the word Draws.

Robin laughed out loud.

“The old lady brought him his breakfast when she had cooked it.”

“I put on an extra egg and a slice of bacon for you as you said you were hungry.”

“Now give me a minute and I will bring you some toast.”

“You are an angel.”

Robin tucked into his breakfast which was delicious; when the old lady returned she told Robin that there had been a call for him from someone called Johnny. Who told me to tell you that the “rocks are on the beach” Well now, how stupid is that I ask you; everyone one knows there’s rocks on the beach.

“Did Johnny say anything else?

“Yes; the dolphins are swimming at five o’clock.” Your friend Johnny must be enjoying his holiday.”

Robin knew that what Johnny meant; it was the trawler it was leaving Amsterdam and it would arrive back in North Shields later that day and that he would meet him in the dolphin.

Yes; he must.”

Robin went back to his room and lay on the bed and closed his eyes for four hours.

It was the sound of the old lady hoovering the carpet down stairs that woke him up. He put on his winkle picker boots. He used the back of his jeans to shine them up as he put on his black leather jacket and slipped out.

He took the bus to North Shields ferry landing then walked along to the dolphin.

He had a few hours to kill before the trawler arrived so he walked along to Tynemouth priory.

When he got there he spotted a police car outside of the Stuffed Dog. He went into the nearby café and ordered a coffee and sat where he could see without anyone seeing him. After twenty minutes Bob Cole emerged from the pub then got into the squad car.

They were onto him he thought as he finished his coffee then walked back to the dolphin.
