“Hello police, yes, I’m the landlord of the Stuffed Dog in Tynemouth I’ve had a young man in here tonight chucking fiver’s around like there was no tomorrow; now I hear there is a reward for information is that correct?

“We will send an officer down to see you, thank you for your concern.”

“The officer thought no more about it as he supped his cup coffee and ate his bait.

“At eleven thirty Bob Cole walked into the station and asked if there were any leads to the jewellery heist.”

“No Bob Just some crank from the Stuffed Dog saying there was a bloke throwing fiver’s around.”

“When was this?

About nine thirty; yes, it was because I was having my bait.”

“Get me a car out front now!

“Yes Sir;

“Hello calling all cars; is there anyone close by; the sergeant wants a lift right away.

“Fifty two here on my way.”

“Bob went outside when the car pulled in and told the officer to get to the Stuffed Dog sharpish.”

The officer turned on the blue light then sped off up the road towards Northumberland Square. They carried on past the Albion Cinema then down towards Northumberland Park. Then they turned left and then reached Holy Saviours Church.

“Turn left here and it’s on the Left it’s called the Salutation.”

“Why cal it the stuffed dog then?

“Because the original owner loved his dog so much he had it stuffed when it died and it is in the glass case as you walk in.”

“Now it makes sense.”

Bob and the officer went inside just as the last of the revellers were leaving.

“Are you the gentleman who rang the station?

“Yes I did but they didn’t seem interested when I rang.”

“Well I am Sergeant Cole and I am interested.”

“The barman told the sergeant all about the conversation that he had had.”

“Bob pulled out the photo of Robin McNally and showed it to the landlord.

“Is that the man you were talking to?

“Yes, that’s him.”

“He’s got a moustache like David Niven the actor. But that’s him alright.”

“Where is the five pound notes, we need to check the serial numbers on them and see if we can get some prints from them.”

Try not to pick them up with your hands.

Using a pair of tweezers the land lord held them out until they were placed into a plastic evidence bag and then sealed.

“When will I get those back?

“Soon as we have eliminated them from our enquiry.”

“Now can you come down to the station and have your prints taken so we know if there are anyone else’s prints on there they will be McNally’s.

“Yes I can.”

Good I will send a car for you in ten minutes; now where did he go?
