Jackie made his father a cup of tea then brought it in for him.

“Thanks Jackie; please sit down there is something I have to tell you.

“I made a promise to your mother that I would tell you the truth if anything should happen to her.

He got up and went to his bedroom then came back with a photograph album.

He opened the album and there standing next to a young woman was a girl.

“Who is that dad?

“That is your mother and that is your gran mother.”

Jackie still didn’t under stand until a few pages on when there was the woman he recognised as his mother with his dad and a young woman.

Is that that girl from the first photo then dad?

Yes; she was my daughter Jackie.”

“Where is she now dad?

“She was killed Jackie; she was your real mother and that is why the person you called mam looked after you.”

“So who was my mam then?

“She was your Gran and I am your Granda Jackie.”

“Where is my real father then?

“He was accused of murdering your mother and when they let him go he went to Australia.

“Why didn’t you tell me?

I couldn’t Jackie; you wouldn’t have understood you were just too young.

On Saturday I will show you where you mother is buried.

“Now tomorrow you are going to have to get yourself ready and go to school on your own because I will be at work.

I have to bring money in to keep the house running or we get evicted.

“What is evicted?

“It means the council who own the houses will throw us out.”

Alright but can I call you dad, as you will always be my dad won’t you?”

“Yes son, but I won’t always be around because everybody dies sometime.”

“Because our bodies become old and our hearts and minds say we have had enough and break down.
