1. Volcanoes

There was a time when the stars would fall for me,

And there was a time when I wanted everything.

Surrounded by everything that glitters, I can't believe I saw you.

You were a ruler, too,

And it wasn't my right to oppose.

But oppose I did, and we were like volcanoes.

I erupted and you exploded

And in the end we self-destructed.

--But we burned so beautifully

Didn't we?

We could have pretended to be mountains;

So docile, so constant,

But we were volatile.

If ever the stars fell for me,

They died out in infamy.

When they burned out, we burned on

Until the Fat Lady sung her song.

Like a mountain, I play constant.

Like a volcano, you lay dormant.
