Don't Forget

This is about 17 year old Eternity Rain Armer. She's recovering from a bad accident with help from Dr. Pethers, Nurse Dawn, and her small family. She slowly starts to remember things. One day she remembers what happened. Once she gets out of the hospital she goes on a search for the person she lost.

3. David

I wake up to someone softly shaking my feet telling me to wake up. I look up and see a boy at the end of my bed. I can’t really see him due to the darkness.

I must have been asleep a long time if it’s dark out. I’m also in a different room.
The boy smiles mischievously, “Come on Eternity. We got to go so we don’t miss the race.”

“I can’t. I’ve got a cast on my leg.” I reply, confused.

“Quit playing around. You don’t have a cast on your leg.” He pulls back the covers and shows me. There’s no cast.

“But…” I’m completely lost but I get out of bed anyways.

He starts to climb out the window and I stop him, “Stop! You’re going to fall!”

He laughs, “No, I won’t the ground is like 3 feet from the window frame.”

I walk up and look out the window, and see he’s right. I make an excuse, “Oh. Sorry, I’m a little tired.”

“Obviously.”  He snickered.

I punched him in the arm, like it was something I done everyday, as he finished sliding out the window, “Hey that’s not funny!”

“Ow!” He laughed, “That hurt.”

“Not good enough.” I grumbled as I slid out the window.

“What was that?” He replied.

“Hm?” I acted like I hadn’t said a thing.

“What did you saaaaaayyyy-ya?” He annunciated.

“I did not say-ya anything-ah.” I annunciated back.

He rolled his eyes, “Whatever.”

“Whatever.” I mimicked.

“Okay, let’s go.” He said irritated.

We headed toward his car. It was beautiful. It was a black Dodge Charger with a large green stripe running across the top of the car straight down the middle.

“Wow….” I admired his car.

“What? You act as if you’ve never seen my car before.” He mused.

“I haven’t.” I reply, once again, confused.

“You’re acting odd tonight.” He replied.

“Uh, yeah, I-I guess.” I stammered.

“Yeah.” He opened the door for me giving me an odd look.

He walked around to the other side and got into the driver’s side. We drove for about ten minutes before his phone went off.

“Hello, this is David.” He answered.

I ignore this for a couple seconds and then it hits me. I inhale sharply. David. David my boyfriend.

“We’ll be there. We’re just running a little bit late.” David looks over at me confused.

I shake my head, “I don’t want to go.”

“Hang on a minute.” He tells the person on the other line.

“What’s going on?” He asks.

“I don’t want to go.” I repeat.

“Why not?” He asks

“I’m scared of getting a wreck in the race.” I lie.

“You don’t have to ride with me.” He tries.

“I don’t want you to race either.” I lie again.

“I won’t wreck. Calm down, Eternity.” David says, ending the conversation.

“But-” I try but he cuts me off, going back to his conversation.

He mouths “Sorry.” And then says to the other person, “Okay. We’re on our way.” Then hangs up.

“David!” I yell.

“Eternity!” He yells back.

“Why the hell did you do that?” I start to cry.

“You’re not going to change my mind.” He snapped back. Then his face softens. “I’m sorry.”

I ignored his apology, “We’re going to get drunk and then leave the race. Then we’ll pull over on-on the side of the road and start to make-out. There’s going to cops chasing a drunken semi driver. Then the semi driver will-will hit us. You’ll die within 3 days and I’ll go into a coma for almost a week. I won’t re-remember anything.” I sob.

David stares at me for a second like I’m crazy, “Eternity, please stop. You aren’t changing my mind.”

“I’M NOT LYING!” I scream.

He pulls over onto the side of the road, and softly grabs my face, “How do you know this?”

“It happened. In a dream or something.” I cry.

“Alright, alright. I believe you. That explains why you’ve been acting weird.” He says.

“Are we still going?” I start to calm down.

“No, we are not.” He says to me.

“Where are we going?” I ask.

“Let’s go to our place.”

“Okay.” I answer, wondering what our place is

Our place is a long ways away. It’s about 11:00 PM and we get there about 1:30 AM

“Eternity,” I feel a shake on my shoulder. I must have passed out, “We’re here.”

I look up and David’s looking at me. I stare at his gorgeous blue eyes before I realize what’s going on.
“Oh yeah. I forgot.” I smile, tiredly.

“Let’s go.” He opens his door and steps out. I do the same.

I freeze once I step out and shut the door. This is our place. It’s beautiful. There’s a small waterfall crashing into a pool. Beside that is a giant flat platform. It takes a second before I realize it’s a rock.

“Hey are you coming or what?” David yells at me. He’s already almost to the rock.

“Yeah. Just admiring the view.” I yell back. Then I walk towards him.

I look up at the sky. It’s spectacular. There is million’s of star’s filling up almost every single space in the sky. I’d never seen anything like it before.

I’m to focused on the star’s to realize that I’m at the rock. Before I know it I’m tumbling down a small hill towards the pool of water. I hit it with a gigantic splash. I come up gasping for air and sputtering water. David ’s there in a split second helping me out of the water.

“Eternity! Are you all right? What happened?” David frets.

I’m still gasping for air and sputtering up water. I can’t stop and answer his questions.

He’s freaking out and holding onto me, “Eternity! I don’t know what to do! Oh my gosh!”

In my mind I’m thinking, “I guess one of us is supposed to die either way.”

It’s about 30 seconds before I stop sputtering and gasping. Then I start to cry.

David holds me tight, “You’re alright. You’re still here. Nothing is going to happen.”

We slowly lay back as I sob. I sob for a while and let it all out. I thought I was going to die. I was really close too. After a bit I stopped crying.

“David, I’m sorry I’m crying so much.” I apologize.

“Look at me,” He says. I turn and look at him, “You didn’t do a thing wrong. You had some very good reasons to be crying.”

“Okay.” I say.

We just sit there and stare up and the stars holding each other. I go back to admiring everything. Then I start to shiver.

“Hey, are you cold?” David asks.

“Yeah.” I reply.

He unwraps his arms from me and gets up. “I’ll be right back.”

As I sit up he jogs over to his car. He pulls out something and comes back. It’s a quilt. He wraps it around me.

“Thanks.” I say.

“No problem.” He leans over and kisses me on the cheek.

David sits down and wraps an arm around me. About 10 minutes later he stands up and starts stripping off his clothes down to his underwear. I look away embarrassed.

David catches me looking away, and laughs. He walks over to the pool of water and starts to wade in. I look back once he’s up to his waist. Then he turns back and smiles. I smile back.

“Are you coming in?” He hollers at me.

“No, no, no” I laugh shaking my head violently back and forth.

“Ah come on!” He groans.

“No! I am not stripping down like you.” I insist.

“Okay. You’re missing out!” He tries to convince me.

I sit there watching him swim for about five minutes. Finally, I’ve had enough.
I stand up throw off the quilt and pull of my shorts and t-shirt. I come running at the water.
When I hit the water, I scream. It’s freezing. I can hear David laughing.

“Well, well! Look who joined me!” He exclaims.

“Shutup!” I smile. Then I dunk into the water.

I come back up and David is gone. I get scared for about 10 seconds and he bursts out of the water screaming, scaring the crap out of me. I scream. He screams back then he falls back, cracking up.

I glare at him, but I’m laughing, “That is not funny!”

He was dying of laughter, “Your face.”

I started to laugh harder. I couldn’t help it.

“You scared the living crap out of me.” I laughed.

“I know! Your-” He couldn’t stop laughing, “Your face.”

I laugh a bit more but then I finally calm down. Reagan is still laughing. A few minutes later he stops.

We swim for a long time messing around and playing with each other. We play games like water tag and Marco Polo.

When we’re done we stand there for a few moments, the water up to our chest.

“I’m having fun.” He says.

“Is it more fun than that race?” I ask

“Yeah. Definitely.” He smiles.

“Good. I’m glad we didn’t go to that stupid race.” I say.

“Me too.” He says softly and smiles.

“I wouldn’t want it any other way.” I smile back.

“I….” He takes a couple steps closer to me. Then I realize he very close to me. Too close.

I breathe in as my heart starts to race. The adrenaline rushes through me.
He sets his left hand, delicately, on my right cheek. He looks bites his lip, looks at mine, then looks back up into my eyes, and leans in.

His lips softly press against mine and I kiss back as I shut my eyes. He wraps his other arm around me and pulls me closer.

It feels like its been hours when we pull apart. He looks me in the eyes, “I love you, Eternity Rain.”

“I love you too, David James.” I replied.

David gives me a bright smile, lets go of me, and falls back into the water.

I watch him and smile as he yells at the top of his lungs, “SHE LOVES ME! ETERNITY RAIN LOVES ME!”

I follow David back up to his car after we’re done. We grabbed our clothes and the quilt and head up to his car. He walks around to the trunk and digs around the in the pile of stuff. He pulls out two towels and tosses me one. I wring out my hair and wrap the towel around me.

We walk around to the passenger side. David opens the door for me and I slip in. He hands me the quilt, walks around and gets into the driver’s side.

He turns the car on and blasts the air conditioner on warm. Even though the air is warm I’m still cold so I wrap the blanket around me.

David digs a CD out of consul and puts it in the CD slot. He turns it on.

The music is beautiful. It’s a young girl singing. She has a very pretty voice.

“Don’t you recognize this?” David asks.

“No….” I drug out.

He looks at me, very confused, “It’s you.”

My eyes widen, “What?”

“How could you not recognize this?” He exclaims.

“I-I don’t know. I’m really tired. That may be why.” I manage.

He pulls the car over to the side of the road and looks at me very hard, “You-”

I cut him off screaming, “DAVID! GET OUT! GET OUT OF THE CAR NOW!”

I see lights behind us. They’re swerving all over the road. It’s the semi. I guess no matter what we weren’t getting out of this.

David looks at me alarmed. “Wha-”

I cut him off again, “NOW! RUN OVER TO THE WOODS!”

He listens to me and jumps out. I unbuckle my seat belt and throw open the door. David is already running towards the woods. I take off after him.

We both reach the edge of the woods. David stops for a couple seconds but I scream at him to keep running but he doesn’t. I turn around and grab him, trying to drag him after me. He won’t budge.

The cars are still coming. They’re getting closer and closer. You can hear the screeches of the tires sliding across the road.

David still won’t move. I’m screaming at him. This goes on for another minute before I realize that nothing is going to work.

I stop and wrap my arms around David. He wraps his arms around me too. If he’s going to die, I am too.

“Eternity, nothing is going to happen.” David whispers.

“Yes, it is David.” I reply softly.

“I will love you forever and always. Please just remember that even if I’m not there. I will love you forever and always.” David sets his hand on my cheek and kisses me.

I hear a screeching and a crash behind us. I pull back and look at David.

“I love you.” I say then I feel something smash into me.

I’m screaming when the EMT’s get to me. My leg feels like it’s been cut off.

“DAVID!” I scream repeatedly.

I hear nothing in response. I try to fight the EMT’s but I’m in too much pain.

The whole way there I’m in and out of it. I keep asking for David but I get no answer.

The last thing I remember is being pulled out of the ambulance.

I wake up later. I sit up but nobody is in the room. I lay there for a long while until I finally closed my eyes.

I hear the door open after about five minutes later.

“Eternity.” I hear someone whisper.

“Eternity.” I hear it again.

I open my eyes. It’s David. “David!”

“Shhhhh.” He answers.

“Why?” I whisper.

“I’m sneaking out of the hospital. Don’t tell anyone.” He tells me.

“Alright. Where are you going?” I ask.

“I don’t know but I’m leaving. Let me know on Facebook when you get out.” He tells me.

“I promise.” I reply instantly.

“I gotta go. See you soon.” He says.

He starts to head out the door.

“Wait!” I say.

“Yeah.” He stops.

“We made it.” I smile.

He smiles back, “We did. I’ve got to go now.”

“I love you.” I say.

“I love you too.” And he’s gone.
