15. Scene 4

The scene moves to a garage somewhere. The band are inside the garage, rehearsing. Nikki seems distant, resulting in a lull in the music.

Kenny: What’s up, Nikki?

Nikki: Last night a girl died and we dumped her body in the sea so we didn’t get arrested. This morning I bought her best friend breakfast, lied to her about her friend, then left her alone in a café to come to your mum’s house so we can rehearse for four pub concerts that we’re doing tonight. What’s more, the pubs are twenty miles away, and since I have no way of getting home I’ve had to book hotel room. Our manager is a twat but his one redeeming quality is the fact that he’s good at his job, the rest of our so called crew are so useless that I have to book hotels for us. I think I have the right to be pissed.

Reece: Good point dude. Good point.

Kenny: Look, stuff right now is shit, I know. But I’ve heard some of the stuff you’ve got written for the new record, it’s guaranteed to get us noticed by a bigger label. Then we’ll be on our way, as Stereoside put it.

Dan: And what about Amie, huh? You got that one all figured out too?

Kenny: If we’re gonna get past that we’ll have to stop tearing each other apart, deal?

Nikki: Let’s just rehearse, yeah?

The band start playing again and we hear a small part of ‘Take On The World’ by Judas Priest, before Kenny’s mum knocks on the garage door.

K. Mum: Any of you boys want any tea?

Kenny: Nah, we’re OK mum. Thanks though.

K. Mum: I think you boys deserve to be allowed your own rehearsal room. I know it’s a small label but come on.

Reece: I know, Mrs. Kruz, but this garage has the feels. We rehearsed here for years when we were teenagers. It’s where we started, and it works for us so…

K. Mum: I suppose. Anyway, I’ll leave you to it. Stick your head in if you want anything, won’t ya Ken? (she turns and heads back to the house)

Dan: You have a sweet mum.

Kenny: I suppose.

Nikki: You’re lucky, don’t take it for granted.
