1. The Walk he wouldn't forget

It was 03:00 am in the morning. It was Valentine's Day. He was awake as usual, lying on his bed, restless, helpless. He had not slept for days now. He would just lay awake all night staring at the darkness. The only comfort was the darkness, but tonight he felt as if the walls were closing in on him, about to crush him. He felt claustrophobic, gasping for breathe. Suddenly he stood up and started walking towards the front door of the house. Without a second thought he quietly opened the door and went outside. His family was sleeping peacefully, unaware of his plight. In fact, the whole world was sleeping peacefully, no one there to comfort him. He went out on the streets and started strolling, and talking to himself. The whole story, his whole life flashed like a movie in front of his eyes. A little smile came to his lips, when he thought of the fun he had. Friends. Where were his friends now? When he needed them the most. He touched the leaves and flowers of the trees as he walked on. His only company now. And he kept talking to himself. He shrugged and cursed for the mistakes. He phrased and re-phrased lines, rewinding scenes, playing them again, and again….and again. He wished he had said this, wished he had done that. But alas! His efforts were futile. He could not accept his fate. The one thing that he feared most in life had come true, Loneliness.

As if life was strangling him, taking away his life slowly, mercilessly. He could not breathe now, there was a lump in his throat.

And then something happened. Two dew drops fell from the leaves. And two drops of tears rolled down his cheeks. Then some more. And more. Now he was crying loudly, something he had not done in many years. He didn’t remember the last time he cried. He was always proud of being strong. Now his pride had failed him too, just like every other thing in life. He was a failure. His life had betrayed him. He felt he had nothing more to go on with in life. An old song of Bon Jovi came to his mind. He started humming it.

“Baby, ain't it funny, how you never ever learn to fall
You're really on your knees, when you think you're standing tall
But only fools are "know-it-alls" and I played that fool for you
I cried and I cried
There were nights that died for you baby
I tried and I tried to deny that your love drove me crazy, baby
If the love that I got for you is gone
If the river I cried ain't that long
Then I'm wrong, yeah I'm wrong, this ain't a love song.
Yes, I'm wrong, yeah, I'm wrong - this ain't a love song
Yes, I'm wrong, yeah, I'm wrong - this ain't a love song”

He started singing and walked ahead towards the darkness. This was a walk he wouldn’t ever forget.
